The 2019 Saint Pierre offers a big, fresh, full nose, supple and expressive, bursting with boysenberry and black cherry. Remaining just shy of over-ripeness, its fruit is complemented by incense, cedar, and an inky black caviar marine element. This is broad-shouldered and generous enough that it balances the alcohol well (labeled at 14%) and the depth of clean, fresh black fruit in the mouth grows and grows with air. As with many other 2019s, the preservation of acidity keeps this fresh despite its size. This is a very serious St. Pierre, representing the gradual iteration in the wine here. If I felt that vintages of the 1980s-early 2000s were a little under-developed and diffuse, the vintages from mid 2000s-mid 2010s seemed a little too ambitious and heavy-handed. Yet from the mid-2010s onward, St. Pierre has seemed to strike just the right balance.

**This is really a stunner for the price. Roasted bruised plums, black earth, smoldering coffee and tobacco. Long, long, dry finish that shows a tad of bitterness that needs to release with cellar time. This is a dude's Bordeaux! HOLD_
Deep ruby colour. Pronounced and developing nose with blackcurrant, green bell pepper, eucalyptus, black pepper, cloves and violet. Pronounced taste of blackcurrant, eucalyptus, black pepper, vanilla and cloves. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Medium body. A very good St. Julien. Drink in five to fifteen years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

UGC 2019 Singapore (Singapore): Good to see that Saint Pierre has dialed back on the new oak as well. This was very approachable and well balances, again a mix of forest fruit however fairly short finish. 91-92

Well this was a pleasant surprise from a chateau I'm not sure I've ever had before. That was obviously a mistake as this is a real throwback style of Bordeaux, done really well. It has the dark, rich blue- and black-berried fruit of a sunny vintage but manages to stay on the cutting edge of ripeness without crossing over, thus giving rise to some intriguing black tea and cigar tobacco flavors to complement the fruit. The tannins have a clenched feel with some old-fashioned edgy bite and really give the impression of thick skin and small berries, no designs on cuddly softness here, but with sufficient fruit density it doesn't feel inside-out.

Union des Grands Crus: Like the Gloria, this sports a nose which is more savory than fruity. Not to say that there isn't fruit, of course there is- black and blue, running slightly to the porty end of the spectrum - it's just cloaked in an odd package. Difficult showing today.

I dont think that I have ever opened a S-P I didn't like (oops, take that back, the 2008). Once again, focused, masculine, serious, and very age worthy. A true saint julien and a placeholder on behalf of the several makers that lost their way during the last decade or so (won't mention names). This sister property to Chateau Gloria is making old school, serious Bordeaux. An espresso roast signature, coupled with smoldering tobacco and bruised plums. HOLD_

Blackberries, red pit fruits, flowers, tobacco leaf and red currants are the first thing you notice. The wine is soft, fresh and creamy on the palate, leaving you with a wealth of vibrant, lusciously textured, rich, sweet, red and black fruits in the finish. This is a top vintage for Saint Pierre. Drink from 2028-2050.

2024-2038 vvWine.ch

Rich sultry dark smoky and earthy, takes Sainte-Pierre into the next level for this vintage. Slightly dry granular tannins are noticeable but are overwhelmed by the luscious and sensuous quality. This really got me excited about the 2018 vintage.

The wealth of fruit is something you notice right off the bat. Lusciously textured, rich, fresh, nuanced and complex, the waves of perfectly ripe, concentrated, velvety fruit are fresh, long, intense, complex and exciting. This is a top vintage for Saint Pierre. 94-96 Pts
