  • Joli nez, mais trop jeune. Un peu trop d'acidité.

  • Elegant focussed Bordeaux Drinking well now, but will still hold for many years. Nice balance and the fruit and tannins are beautifully integrated. A lot of Paulliac for your money.

  • En strålende 2. vin som gir veldig mye vin for pengene. God nå, men vil bare bli bedre de neste 5+ årene og vare i 20+.....

  • My Birthday Dinner 2011; 4/9/2011-4/10/2011 (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck & My Home): Breathed in the bottle for 7 hours before first tasting (2 tasting portions) then another 24 hours of bottle breathing before full consumption.

Nose: Elegant cassis and dark fruit. Nice cab notes with some hint of oak and dried herbs. Nose was still quite primary throughout the breathing period and actual consumption.

Taste: The wine didn't change much, if at all during the entire process, may be shut down (for me at least). Rather primary with nice dark fruit cabernet notes on the palate. Fine tannins but lovely acid, would be a good match with lots of food. But not showing its best through the entire period I had it open. You might have to wait for another 1-2 years.

  • Consumed over two hours next to the same wine from 2003. Nose is a bit tight immidiately. Mostly minerals, gravel? When the fruit comes out it is blueberry, cassis and plums. Wood prominent. The structure is tighter than the 2003, with medium acidity, ripe tannins from the fruit and support from wood tannins as well. The palate has ripe fruits, no trace of green notes. Medium-long finish. Not spectacular but better than 2003 imo, because of the acidity and finish. Drink or hold, but not 15 years ;). Very good.

  • This time it was much more expressive. On the nose, lovely aromas of ink, plums, ripe blackberry and hints of graphite have now been unwinded. Mid-full bodied with very rich sweet and ripe fruit (high extract) , very firm but excellent tanins and balancing acidity. Long finish. Speaks of its place of origin despite being quite dense. M. Rolland's winemaking style is obvious without hiding the wine's sense of place. Very enjoyable already, will probably improve over the mid-term.

  • Very young, tied at the opening, but after two hours in the decanter was so lovely fruity notes of blueberry, black currant, cherry with a high acidity and young tough tannins. Should be stored 2-3 years before opening, and can manage at least 15 years in the cellar.

  • Undecanted from a preservation machine. Tight nose of fruit, vanilla, and hints of organic volatiles and mineral. Reasonable balance in the mouth with sour ripe muted fruit competing with slightly bitter leather. A bit watery mid-palate with drying tannins. Short finish of slightly bitter fruit and smoke. Tannin medium plus, acid medium, body medium or lighter. Dry. Needs time to breath for sure.

  • Deep garnet. Nose is shy but focused. Has aromas of cassis, raspberries in a background of ink, coffee the inevitable cedar and oak vanilla. Also some sweet spices and a slightly green vegetal character. Medium-plus body, with ripe and round tannins which have a grip. Good aftertaste of cedar and red fruit. Still quite young and unevolved. A wine of good potential, complexity and harmony.

  • Dark ruby. Very tight and restrained with sweet red berries and licorice after some aeration. Mid-bodied with firm tanins, subtle fruit and high acidity. Fairly long finish. Needs some years in the cellar to gain in flesh and roundness.

  • Fine nose of blueberry, cedar and spice, carrying through well to a poised, smooth and consistent palate of good length. Drinking exceptionally well.

  • Fruit forward, extremely tasty Bordeaux that seems to emphasize the Merlot side, showing the fruity style without the cedar elements. Tannins moderate or hidden by the fruit. All this reminds me of a good Washington state BDX blend, which would probably be more expensive. Excellent wine and great QPR. I haven't had a BDX this good for $30. Drinking very well for a 2004 wine: doesn't need time to balance out, but it should also age well for more than a few years.

  • Dark meaty garnet color. Nose of plum, black cherry, cigar box, pencil shavings, spice and an interesting slate/lead/mineral character. Pleasant black cherry & blackberry fruit with some sweet cedar spice on the palate. Leathery mouthfeel, with balanced acidity & tannins. This wine can definitely age well for another 5+ years, but is drinking well now too.

  • Ordered with dinner at Starker's in KC. Lovely aromas of black cherry and cedar. Plenty of fruit on the palate. Good structure - the tannins were firm, but not overwhelming. Very approachable at this stage. Liked it a lot.

  • Nice dark color, nose was a little closed, but it did offered up subtle dark fruit aromas with balance, nothing stood out. Still young with the tannin structure playing a role on the palate, fruit was a little thin, nothing too exciting. An ok everyday bottle of wine. Decanted 3 hours, probably could have used longer.

  • Pontet-Canet at Sherry-Lehmann (Sherry-Lehmann, NYC): Possessed a subdued bouquet with fruit and hints of earth, wood, and spices. On the palate it was watery in texture, but with a good concentration of flavor, low acidity, a little fruit on the midpalate, and big tannins. The bouquet could be interesting, but is subdued and difficult to dissect.
    $24

    Full:
The bouquet of this second wine displayed greatly subdued fruit with possible hints of wood, earth, and spices. It was hard to be sure of the particulars given the plastic cup and the ambient aromas, but I'm fairly certain the bouquet has deeper nuances. That said, the subdued nature of the aromas would probably make it very difficult, even in ideal conditions, to decipher this bouquet. The palate displayed low acidity with a hint of fruit on the midpalate, and powerful, gripping tannins. The mouthfeel was watery.

  • Decanted for 7 hrs, also decanted the 2001 Chateau Ferriere the same time. Some people preferred this to the Margaux. Personally I preferred the Ferriere. This was the second time I've had this Pauillac and by comparison, this had a bit more tannic and showed the fact it was a younger vintage than the Ferriere. Nice wine though amd it was also a success. Nice bouquet though not quite as fragrant as the Ferriere. Will get in again given the chance
