Found two of these bottles for $3 each. Opened the first over the weekend for my Mom who enjoys Kabs. Terry Theise gave this 1 star. A sweeter style kabinett as the grapes were picked in two very ripe lots (one with 90 Oeschle and the other with 100 Oeschle). This wine from the 2006 vintage is not in it's dumb phase yet. Notes of apricot and fresh picked apple. Great value. 88 points.

How time flies; it seems much less than a year that we were frequenting the Wine Expressions Saturday tastings, now sadly deceased. This was one that was featured. The Rheinhessen is not my treasured reason. Pale yellow green color, nose of mineral and tropical fruit, bracing acidity and peach on the palate with notable sweetness, which is a bit surprising for a kabinett.

Antrim 1844 Dinner - April 2008 (Taneytown, Maryland): had this rheinhessen riesling with an assorted cheese platter. served too cold, but as it warmed up it showed lychee and ripe peach on the nose. on the palate, this was full and sweet, with medium- acidity. not very complex at all, but it did have pleasant pineapple, and sweet peach flavors. it went extremely well with an aged cheddar and quince.

Pale yellow green. Minerality on the nose, exceptionally tart, almost astringent, mouth-filling, residual sweetness pronounced for a Kabinett. Dulcie preferred this to the Balthasar Ress we had alongside; I might go the other way.

Not a big nose. Good acidity. Lemon and floral notes.

Riesling Revival with Bear Dalton of Specs (French Alliance Houston): Light color and a nose of green apple and peach. The fruit character was pretty ripe for a Kabinett. Slightly sparkling yet rather simple to my palate. Maybe at $17 its worth a buy, but I will pass.

Germany 2006 Report - Terry Theise/Skurnik Tasting (aka the lightning); 6/7/2007-6/11/2007 (Tribecca): richer and fatter, perhaps needing time to unwind a bit.
