Monthly Tasting Group HWS #037; Austria: Riesling (by EvA): Somewhat tropical bouquet. A little bit spritzig in the start. Quite full bodied with good citrus and a lot of tropical fruits. Also some pleasant bitterness. Tasteful and aromatic wine which lacks a bit in acidity.

WFA Austrian Wines (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): Made in a trocken style, this had a rather muted nose with lots of mineral and slate but not much in the way of fruit. The palate was more expressive though, with white fruits, white musky flowers and clean, lively acid. Nice bright finish with more of the palate cleansing acid and a touch of peppery spice.

Light straw colour. Very stylish minerals, pronounced yeast, grey pears and slightly green aromatic character on the forward nose. The slightly spritzy palate mirrors the above aromas nicely. The pear fruit has a slight feeling of soda pop, the wooliness is similar to chablis, the dry finish is elegant and "vanishes" like a sip of champagne. A perfect apéritif riesling, especially fit to drink in its absolute youth.

Stony, slate-y nose with some apple and lime. Medium bodied, pleasant and smooth in the mouth. Easy to enjoy. Great value.

Pale yellow gold. Nose of slate and white flowers. Apple and spicy pears, with lime on the palate, finishing with a good mineral hit. Very good.
