Doods, Datasets, a Dog, and 7 Whites Tasted Blind (Below the Den, AdMo): This was fine and enjoyable amongst a lineup of Chardonnay tasted blind. I didn’t pick up the notes I necessarily expect from viogner here, but others got peaches and cream. I found a distinct bitterness on the palate that probably pushed it down the list for me.

This wine continues to evolve and has improved a bit from my last tasting a year ago: notes of citrus, honeysuckle, candied apricot with good balance and mouthfeel.

Blind tasting. A darker color than the other whites we were drinking. It was easy to see that this was hotter climate due to its higher alcohol. A strong pine smell, a funky fruit note, apricot. Least favorite white wine of the flight. Still good but I won't go looking for this.

Pears, white blossom, celery, a lick of honey perhaps a hint of ginger - a bit advanced (from 375ml), full bodied with honeyed undertones, slightly astringent, low acidity.

Pale gold color. Lovely aromas of apricots, white flowers, and peaches. Good viscosity and soft acidity. Lovely even a day later. Less concentrated and intense than other Condrieu producers that I have tried in recent years but a pleasant wine that is a crowd pleaser.

Guigal w/ Patrick Will: Georges Vernay and Etienne Guigal brought Condrieu/Viognier back from the brink in the 40s/50s. sweet corn aromas. banana and 'JuicyFruit.' palate shows sweet fruit up front.
this is some estate fruit and some merchant fruit. Doriane is all Estate.

obviously the reviewers (JD et al) were either hyperbolic or tasted a different bottling/lot Apricot, lemon curd and creamy (malo) praline. Could use a more lift and juiciness to cut through the heat and sweetness. 88-89

Lemon zest. Lemon rind. Citrus flavor over powered the wine. Structure, aromatics and alc content were just fine. Make sure you eat a meal that will jive with this flavor profile (possibly hearty fish - mahi, halibut, etc - with a spicy sauce that will go well with a citrus wine flavor).

Apricot and nectarine dominates the nose, maybe some almond. Palate follows, adds some cream. Thick and full on the palate, serious alcohol heat (15%!), some vanilla in the background. Quite sweet (but I've let it warm up quite a bit in the glass), acid just barely balancing. I have to give this a solid score - it is impeccably made from obviously very good grapes - but I'm disappointed. I have had very little Condrieu (it's mostly out of my price range), but the others were much more striking, with powerful anis and herbal notes taking the fruit in a new direction. This one, I'd have pegged for a good California Viognier - all stone fruit, on the edge of too fruity and alcoholic. It's good wine, but it wasn't what I was hoping for.

An attractive golden colour. Good sweet fruit on the nose with some citrus and hints of marzipan and almond. The palate was very rich with apricot, peach, pear, tropical fruit and was sweet (almost honeyed). Very long with restrained acidity but good overall balance. It settled down in the glass after opening and lost some initial almond stone and liquorice flavours. Soft and attractive but with limited minerality. Much better than the previous bottle (bought at the same time) which was a huge disappointment and, I hope, a one-off. Given the price and variability, I will hesitate to buy more until it is sold under a more reliable bottle closure.

Light bright yellow in colour. Wonderfully complex - peaches, melon, mango, with slate-minerals on the palate as well. Rounded, rich and supple. Absolutely amazing!

I have enjoyed earlier vintages greatly but this did not reach the heights. It improved as it warmed in the glass and the apricot/peach flavours were there but it didn't quite hang together even having been opened for 5h. This was presented blind to a tasting group and they were not impressed. Later, the end palate showed liquorice and too much almond (actually benzaldehyde flavour to me). I hope this was an odd bottle but it was a serious disappointment, even at a discounted price from Waitrose UK.

As ever, this showed plenty of florality on the nose, spice on the palate, some oiliness, but decently lean on the palate.
