Unsure of provenance, but this bottle was sadly over the hill. Reminiscent of a good aged village Gevrey, but too far gone to have any real appeal other than curiousity. Good acidity, fruit was faded, a musty character (aromatically too) but did not seem corked. You win(e) some, you lose some.

Opened at a restaurant half an hour before consumption. At first the nose is a bit reticent, but with time, it opens to lovely aromas of spice and red fruits. The palate is silky and lacey. The acidity still weaving a vibrancy to the flavors. Tannins are perfectly resolved. This is wonderful, mature Gevrey and why we age our wines. And it’s Bachelet!

Took the best part of 7 hours to open up but pretty much at peak now. Very muted at first on both the nose and palate with a strong bitterness. A Vosne-like spice emerged with a little sweet kirsch-y finish, before evolving into a more Gevrey-like rusticity of sous bois and mushroom. Interesting that the wine opened up not only in terms of the volume of flavour, but also texture which became a lot more sensuous. Good concentration from old vines, impeccable balance by a good producer. Wines like these are the reason why people fall into the rabbit hole of Burgs. Lovely.

A fine showing for this wine. The aromas display violet flower and bottle-sweetened red fruits, very clear and precise but without signature Gevrey characteristics to my palate. The palate is pure and direct, with light to medium bodied fruit and a linear presence, typical of the vintage's acids, in my experience. There's a remnant of a firm tannic frame, and I suspect this will continue to hold well on its balance. A very enjoyable example of a minimal intervention burg.

A fragile if rustic beauty. Earth, rich fruit, and complex aromatics are in balance but feel like they could fall apart at any moment. If you have this wine, try one soon.

Textbook Bachelet Gevrey. Muscular, tends towards darker fruit but remains very light on its feet. Some spice remains from the oak treatment but it is not obtrusive. Lovely wine that is drinking very well now.

This had some funk. Surprising for Bachelet. For some the brett was powerful but it didn't bother me and few others. I concede though the wine suffered a bit as the fruit was rather muted. It's a shame as I've had this wine several times and I believe it to be one of the great village wines and was a steal on purchase. Served blind, guesses were mixed between Burg & Rhone. In a flight with 01 Jadot GC Cazetiers. Paired with wild mushrooms a la plancha, duck jus, heirloom carrots, eucalyptus.

Meat, sweet earth and minerals on the nose. It has a sappiness about it in the mouth and there is a really sweet heart of cherries. There's good minerally tension and length of flavour is very good for it's level.

Plenty of pine needle sap, meat, moss and undergrowth to the aroma at first. This wine really breathes up in the glass and intensifies in sweetness from the heart. It has good intensity of cherry and blackberry fruits countered nicely by the savoury nuance. It is generous and plush of texture with good cut.

Opened 2.5 hours before tasting with half in a 375 for the next day. The initial day was a little sauvage and didn't all come together. The 375 the next day was terrific. Dark cherry aromatics, fine detailed tannins, deep fruit. Drinking well now and for years to come.

Denis Bachelet is a magician. medium ruby, showing some age on the edge. Still fruit driven when popped and poured, but evolves very nicely in the glass. Perfectly balanced, and expresses its origin well (some animal notes, dark red fruits,...). Fabulous village level wine!

Medium ruby. The aromatics here show a lot of Gevrey-sauvage character, along with some dark cherry fruit. The palate has put on a lot of weight since my last taste in 2006. It is now solidly middleweight, counterbalancing the bright acidity well. The back end reveals some grainy tannins that overpower the fruit on the finish. This rustic character may never completely fade, but additional age should soften things up some. It is still a very young wine.

Still fresh Definitely some wild and wooly Gevrey flavors along with earth and some roasted notes. Deep, but not terribly distinctive fruit flavors. There is no hurry to drink this.

Expressive aromatics of cherry, sweet earth, minerals and iron. In the mouth the structure has loosened just a little and the sweet cherry fruits intensified revealing a wine that is truly accessible yet still quite primary. There is real old vine sap to the mouthfeel (I must admit that had I not seen the V.V designation on the label I would have just said that the wine was sappy, how old are the vines anyway?) and it finishes with good precision.

This showed pure red fruits and light earth on the nose. I found sappy, but not huge fruit on the palate, great balance and good defining acidity. Long finish. I liked it for its taught structure and I'm sure it would show more of its class over dinner (this note is from a small glass at a tasting). Still, I won't open another for a couple years.

Chicao Wine Geeks do Pinot (Hyde Park, Chicago (Collin's place)): Garnet red color. Candied fruit and heat on the nose. Eucalyptis and cherries flavors in the mouth. Gives little on the mid-palate. Shorter finish where I was picking up some oak that didn't have sufficient fruit to integrate with. I guessed Cali. Shows what I know!
