  • For only $10 at Costco, this was a major steal. Really light and easy to drink. Ruby red in colour but fruity in taste.

  • Solid wine. Light and supple. Did open nicely but faded after about 5 hours so be aware.

  • 92-93 fine grenache, cherry and other red fruits. Drinking window now.

  • This started very light and fresh but with hours opened it gained complexity and weight. I would give this a couple of years and definitely decant for an hour or two. Good value wine

  • Very light, drinkable Rioja
N: cherry, floral, strawberry, very light vanilla
P: cherry, red jello, light vanilla, baking spice

  • This is unlike the typical Rioja, considerably lighter due to the fact that it’s predominantly Grenache with very little Tempranillo. On the first day, strong damp forest floor on the nose, though it was muted on the second day. Very subtle tannins, but liked the long finish on the first day. Sour cherry and red grapefruit notes. Some dried oregano. Oak is not prominent. Somewhat unremarkable on the second and third days, so decanting is unlikely to improve the profile of this wine.

  • Translucent on sight.

Cherry, vanilla and some cinnamon on the nose. After some time it is a note of preserved strawberries that dominates the nose.

The strawberry fruitiness continues on the palate. The palate is concentrated and you feel the power of the fruit but most of all it feels light and juicy. It all ends in a softly spicy finish.

  • When I think of Rioja I imagine dusty, leathery Tempranillo. This bottle was different- Grenache based it was lighter colored in the glass and had aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and pepper with earthy notes. Medium acid, body and tannins led into a slightly jammy palate of blackcurrant, dark raspberry, black cherry. A medium finish to this semi-complex wine makes it a 91 pointer that gets 5 stars 'cause it only runs $15. I would pair it with Filet Mignon or perhaps Veal on the charcoal. Drink till 2026.

  • 91 Un excelente vino siempre. Muy frutal, redondo y pulido. Una maravilla que se puedan hacer vinos así a precios como este. Imbatible.

  • Day 1: 100% Garnacha. Very light style wine. Nose is muted a bit and the palate a bit thin. Not much enjoyment here and 93 points? Floral, water, damp earth and mild spice. Lacks concentration and low acidity. One of the worst score differences in a very long time. Easy pass and day 2 and 3 we can only hope. $17 I will never get back. 78 points
Day 2: Sadly no better and maybe worse. Easy pass. Tried a glass later in the day and soulless wine here.
Day 3: A little better but truly a disappointment. Weak nose and palate features spices, some floral and dried fruit. Short finish. Should be in the under $7.00 category. 80 points
Day 4: Normally don't do day 4 but this is a bit better although still an easy pass. Floral, red currants, spice and red hots. 83 points
    14.5% Alcohol
    Natural Cork

  • Drank with steak. Tasted like mature riojA with leather and tobacco, though was still ruby in the glass to look at. Some bitter cherries. Low tannins. Ok to good.

  • Leicht, fruchtig, süffig.
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant and cherry. It tastes like black pepper, cherry, light toast and phenolic. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

  • Very nice QPR; color and body are light, indicating a cooler climate vineyard; nose and taste are pleasant if a bit muted; works for sipping or with food.

  • No formal notes, but this was a fairly pleasant if slightly generic Rioja. Enjoyable and fair value around €12. 86-87pts

  • Tart cherry flavor, good acidity. Would have preferred more "stuffing". It is an elegant wine; soft and simple. Not sure additional time would be helpful.

  • Not great bottle

  • Medium ruby colour. Juicy red and some dark berry fruit, cherry, light coffee, spiced and liquorice, with medium-level acidity, fine, ripe tannin, and very good length. Medium-bodied and very balanced, with a smooth, creamy texture. Very juicy and harmonious on day two. Not the most complex wine, and not the most concentrated either, but the balance, juiciness and drinkability of this wine stand out. Very good value! Recommended. Drink young.

  • A dear friend and wine freak brought me two or three bottles of the 2018 Finca La Monetesa - Rioja. In the annual issue of the German magazine WEINWIRTSCHAFT from Meininger Verlag, the wine was chosen as the "best red wine of the year" (globalgalactic). Besides the absolute quality, the decisive criteria were, among others, the special price-pleasure ratio (available at many retailers for about 13-15 Euros).

The wine is produced at the Bodega Palacios Remondo. Not an unknown winery. It is the nursery of Álvaro Palacios. The Priorat (L'Ermita) pioneer, who had previously been very successful elsewhere, took over his parents' business after the death of his father, José Palacios Remondo, in 2000. Little remained the same in terms of viticulture, and so Álvaro Palacios once again beamed the already successful Rioja winery into a different orbit.

The 2018 Finca La Montesa Crianza comes from vines that stand on the slopes of Monte Yerga (Rioja Oriental - DOCa) at an altitude of about 550 metres with a southern exposure. They were planted in 1989 on stony, clayey-limestone soils.

The wine shows a radiantly clear, quite transparent cherry red in the glass. The nose is of medium intensity and smells of fresh red fruits and a hint of liquorice, framed by a very delicate wood spice. The attack on the palate is fresh, clean and pure, the medium+ acidity (low pH) stimulates salivation in the mouth. Notes of cherry and plum stones, hibiscus tea and a touch of leather. The preserved strawberry gives the decisive hint of the Garnacha grape, from which the 2018 edition was 95% vinified. The tannins are moderate and soft. Despite its 14% alc, the wine is not a heavyweight, it is animating and has drinking flow. For me, a beautiful red wine that carries its heart on the tongue, is well balanced and can be drunk now. For a very good rating, however, it lacks depth and length in the finish. Nevertheless value for money. 91/100 2022 - 2016

Only wine from Spain can do it.
I have never tasted wine with so much earth aromas, it hit me right away. Also toast and violet and herbs and red cherry of course.
Yes the wine is dry, but amazingly low tannins and well blended acidity
A lot of red fruits and beautiful long finish with milk chocolate, cinnamon and spice.
I just discovered that I had 2013 vintage at 2018 and I didn't remember it.
I gave it the same points, but it's funny what aromas and tastes I described.
    Aromas: anise, pomegranate, plum
    Taste: red cherry, plum, minerals.
    Long, sweet finish with spice.
    😎
It was different wine that time or maybe I am different person now???
    Who knows 😏
And this riddle is one of the reason I like to drink this kind of red juice.

  • This wine has really great QPR. We've had six bottles so far: smooth, rich, complex, a bit earthy but not too much. Hard to beat for 13 Euros.

We tried it against the 2019 Dominique Joseph - Le Petit Saint Vincent Saumur-Champigny last night, and this one had much more going on.

  • One can immediately see and taste why this wine is so popular, a real crowd pleaser, Lovely ruby colour translucent, very perfumed nose of cherries plums, a little leather for balance, on the palate plums red fruits smooth almost moorish, very smooth, cracking wine for the money, you would have in normal circumstances have to pay an awful lot more to better this.

  • Frisk stil for en rioja, merkbart eik, men det roet seg med litt lufting. Bra kjøp.

  • My only go-to Spanish producer. The Montesa shows notes of dark plum, dark red cherries, tobacco leaf, Charred meat and cedar. The palate is medium to full-bodied with lush and juicy red fruit, fresh herbs, savoury baking spices and a touch of gamey meat. The finish is rich. If only all Spanish producers were like Palacios.
