Clear medium plum cherry fruit with a tinge of brick. High toned and showing some musty notes, cedar, wood, some light cherry and plum fruit. Not really showing any meaty, smokey notes that I would have expected. Medium bodied, crisp and lively with strong acidity, medium tannins, nice long finish, more red than black fruits, cherry and plum, not a huge amount of complexity. A little disappointing to be honest, just does not show enough character.
After a few days corked up this seemed to gain weight - showed a darker, tarry and iodine note on the nose, still did not improve a whole bunch on the palate.

A bit muted. Supple, mid-weight and with soft raspberries on nose and palate. But lacking punch. I so wanted to like this, but just couldn't quite get there...

Decanted at 12:30p and tasted from 4:30 - 10:30p. Nose was closed with some slight black fruits peeking out at 10:30p. Palate did show some nice red fruits and nice minerality. Shut down for business. Not sure if this will emerge by 2021 if folowing the Rule of 15 - perhaps the Rule of 20?

Cork was moldy on the outside. Used the Durand to remove it. Wine is well developed, full bodied and complex yet refined with lots of dark fruit and spicy overtones. Long finish. Surprisingly nice and in a very good place.

We tried and abandoned the 2005 vintage of this (as it was corked) and pulled this out of the cellar as its replacement. Showed ever so much better without being absolutely sparkling.

Corroded capsule and soaked cork, but delicious (probably a bit flawed and glad I drank it now). Light colored northern rhone, but all in all, nicely integrated.

Another wine from the Garagiste garage sale mystery case...
Very interesting nose on this wine. It's quite pronounced and robust. On first take, it felt to me like I just walked into a holiday party with hot buttered rum in the air. On the 2nd and 3rd try, it was still very holiday'ish, but more like Thanksgiving. Not a big difference, to be sure - once the holidays start, the spices all start to look the same to me - but, for me, distinguished by the cloves, rotting orange and herbs (sage, thyme). Almost like a Turkey stuffing. On the palate, the fruit is more pronounced with good red fruit and delicate balance. Overall, well balanced and a smooth finish. Good stuff.

Popped and poured. Medium to light color (think Burgundy color) candied red fruit on the nose with little Syrah character on the nose...maybe a hint of olive and pepper, but mostly ripe red fruit. The palate was medium in weight with a body more akin to Burgundy than Syrah but with lots of concentration, medium to low acidity and a little heat on the finish.

sfwine: Northern Rhône Syrah (San Francisco): Candied, tooty frooty nose with obvious volatile acidity. Likewise on the palate, with superripe jammy red and blue fruits and confected sweetness. A whisper of white pepper, perhaps. Very concentrated and long, but relatively soft and unstructured for young Hermitage, though the bones may just be submerged in froot. Such a disappointment; this lacks any sense of place. Not recommended.

Simply sensational! Juicy red fruit on the nose, mid-weight, supple and complex on the palate. A delight to drink.
