  • The 2020 Chateau La Lagune is the best La Lagune I have ever tasted. This estate has attained an apotheosis. It has a perfect balance of strength, depth, and elegance. It takes advantage of all of the strengths of modern winemaking without selling out to Parkerization and over-extraction. This wine is beautiful. The distinctive spectacular deep bright purple color is the personification of the terroir in this region. The nose is floral, the wine is rich and spicy, forthcoming, joyful. Minerally, a great expression of the Haut Medoc. I rate it an enthusiastic 95 points. The 14% alcohol level is a complete non-factor. At $49, I will easily buy at least another 6 bottles, maybe more. I'd like to try the 2019 and see how it compares. Pretty tough to beat this 95 point 2020 beauty. Love it. Rating: 95 points.

  • Nose: Pure cassis, slate, blackberry flowers. Palate: Chalky blackberry, tart red raspberry, bitter dark chocolate covered dark cherries, hint of sour fruit and oak, chunky tannins. Nice lift on the palate in spite of the weight of the tannins and heavy flavors; nicely balanced.

  • Pretty accessible upon opening before shutting down for a couple of hours. Had this alongside the 2019 La Lagune to compare and enjoyed both for different reasons. The 2019, for its charm and bright fruit (almost red fruited in a way), and the 2020 for its velvety and closer to full-bodied texture (likely a result of the Petit Verdot). It's definitely more stocky and broad-shouldered than the 2019; with both looking to be exceptional wines in 10+ (likely 15+) years time.

  • Mirroring the vintage and hence more powerful than the 2019.

Textbook Bordeaux without any real faults but today with no real caracter or excitement. The best description of the taste I could think of is "neutral". Dark fruits, present well balanced tannins and that's it.

I suspect this is a wine that shows its cards mainly in the tertiary phase?

  • The 2020 vintage UGCB tasting in Amsterdam 03/06/2023 (Amsterdam): Very refined from start to finish, from the gently perfumed, somewhat exotic bouquet with well dosed elegant wood and vanilla, to the very subtle and superbly balanced aftertaste and inbetween the concentrated mix of smooth fruit and super gentle bitters; at the wow-wine level!

  • UGCB Toronto: There is a freshness here that pulled me in to buy some. With notes of leaves, earthy and herbal notes.

Sehr langer Abgang. Was für ein schöner La Lagune. 2025-2045 (Verkostet am 8. November 2022 in Zürich) www.vvwine.ch

  • Intensiver Duft nach reifen dunklen Früchten. Süße Gewürze. Bei aller Fülle auch fein. Sehr sensibel extrahiert, gute Substanz, tolle Frische.

2025-2045 (April/Mai 2021)

  • Showing a serious depth of color, the wine is filled with floral aromas, espresso, leaves and spicy red fruit aromas. Medium-bodied, elegant, fresh and refined, texturally the wine feels like spun silk. There is good length and purity here. I am really liking the spicy freshness and savor character in the lingering finish. 92-94

  • Airoldi - Bordeaux En Primeur 2020 (Quay Restaurant, International Passenger Terminal, Sydney): Blackcurrant, clay, sweet spice, slight cedar, slightly dusty cocoa powder notes. Juicy, fleshy, savoury, slight bitterness to the fruit, talc textured, grainy tannins. Shows promise.

  • Needs some coaxing but has a focused quality – sort of leafy lift, an impression of small berries… good purity. On the palate this feels firm (not hard), there is some breadth and good fruit levels, combined with classic earthy savoury notes. There is a mineral thread, some texture. This is obviously good, just not very expressive... not a charmer.

I tasted this a few times, a couple of different samples.
