Consistent with previous notes. Tourtine seems notably more focused polished than Migoua this evening. Quite boozy though: this is a wine best drunk slightly chilled in the sun with a barbecue.

(after 05 Migoua) Another classic Mourvèdre nose! More red-fruited and fresh than Migoua. Comolex: sage, stones. Fresh and vigorous on the palate. Lovely energy here, and it’s more integrated than the Migoua.

Drinking really well but seems to be heading to an even better place. An hour decant helped coax out the gamy, herbal nose. On the palate this is assertive, powerful, and dense- I usually drink lighter- bodied reds so it’s a bit of a a shock to the system- but this is absolutely fantastic for what it is. I feel like there are decades of aging potential here but I don’t have a lot of experience with really old Tempier.

Straight after 04 from magnum. A more polished nose. Damp leather and bright red fruits. More evolved, perhaps because of the format. Mint. Lovely integrated fresh palate, long finish but still loads of tannin and mouth-puckering acidity. More stuffing than 04. Years ahead of it.

Not giving a huge amount on the nose: herbal but a sense of hidden depths. Vigorous attack and taut acid-driven finish. A real sense of energy. Probably five years from its peak.

interesting bottle. Decanted this for an hour or 2 before pasta dinner (tomatoes and other sauteed veggies) and wine was surprisingly round and full and dominated by ripe, dark fruits. Typically have found the acid and or tannin to be more pronounced here but not tonight. Wine was very tasty and hung in there with the acid of the sauce and went down well on a call winter's night.

Ripe juicy red at first though it firmed up and took on that characteristic liquorice flavour with time. Ripe tannins and approachable now but plenty of time in hand.

A delicious bottle with the refinement that marks the Tempier Domaine. Tannins still evident, even after a thorough decant and an hour in a decanter. Color still ruby, suggesting this wine has significant evolution in front of it. Delicious bouquet of herbs and small red fruit, but not yet the distinct tertiary aromas that come with a fully aged Bandol. I would guess this wine would be better in 5-10 years.

Tempier masterclass (Basement, 67 Pall Mall): On a slope, but less high than Migoua; sun and wind; soil ideal for Mouvedre. A little brighter and fresher on the nose cf the Migoua. Nicely fragrant. Very silky, smooth but dense. A brightness and a cherry/kirsch lift. ****

Decanted 1/2 an hour. Good cork. Nose, not overly aromatic, shows purple fruits, touch of smoke and earth. Full bodied wine, juicy purple fruits, layered, soft tannins, meaty notes, certainly rich but with decent balancing acidity, very good length though still slightly chewy finish. By no means subtle but balanced and enjoyable, indeed excellent, though still quite youthful and with potential upside as the tannins fully meld and it begins to show a touch more complexity.

This one stood out in tasting of all the Tempier wine, however in different vintages. Has reached optimal maturity, showing beautiful aromas of dark cherries, blueberries, thym and eucalyptus. Silky tannins, full bodied, coates the mouth With intense aromas of dark berries, minerals, Earth and animal tones. Long ond fresh aftertaste. Does Bandol get any better?
Beautiful, high-class wine. Aromas of game, coffee grounds, lavender, bouquet garni, kalamata olives, and black cherry. Beautifully complex and balanced, as if a Michelin-starred chef carefully put the ingredients together. That’s typical of Domaine Tempier—one of the most important winemakers in the world from my vantage. Soft structure with light acidity and easy-going tannins. This wine displays the profound potential of mourvèdre.

Love this stuff! Great depth on the nose with unsweetened black cherry jam, camphor, and bbq grill. Dense and chewy in the mouth with deep black fruits with a good dose of woodsiness and herbs. Plenty of acid for balance with a long finish. On point. Drink now or hold for a few more years.

Bandols (Trent's): Spice and dark cherries on the nose. Dark cherries on the palate with some heat. Firm tannins. Seemed to be a lot there but hiding. It did start to open up later in the night. Others liked it more a this got three first place votes although it finished middle of the pack in group voting.

This in my opinion is past its prime. There was nothing on the front end. Almost like a blank and then you had some residual tannins and a touch of leather, some funk as well. The finish was unacceptable and the acidity was gone. This was a wine that used to be good just 5 hrs too late.

Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club" 2014-02; Provence (@ JC): Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits and rustic barnyard flavors. On the palate dark berries, leather, tobacco, beautiful acidity and round tannin with still a pleasant bite. Complex and well balanced, beautiful wine. This bottle is at the top of its maturity stage now, but without any doubt it can last a few more years as well. Great wine!

early for this one but after being open in the bottle for a couple hours really started to sing...funky, smokey secondary flavors, good not amazing length but pretty solid mouthfeel that seemed to gain size as the evening went along. Fruit is still present but seven years has seen seen it step back and the other characteristics step forward. should only get better

Light purple. Aromatics jump from the glass. Light bodied for a Tourtine. Very high acid and tannin. Minerals. Not ready to drink yet. I find this wine extremely interesting. When the 05's were released I was not very impressed other than really liking how the regular bottling went so well with fish. But now as the single vineyards are aging I am noticing wonderful changes. I drank this along with the 06 Tourtine and this is what I am thinking about today. A long nap in the cellar is what these 05's need. They will become truly excellent with time. I think in 10 or 15 years this will be surprising the few people with it in the cellar. Excellent (for me).

Mourvedre nose: deep, dark, bit of funk, dusty, smoky; palate is still very young and needs a lot of time for the structure to integrate. Give it at least 3-5 more years. 90-91++

Decanted and poured, this wine has been tasted a couple of times since release. At this stage, the wine remains reserved and unyielding. The aromatics focus on notes of leather, earth and tar with the blackberry fruit residing in the background. The color is a youthful dark ruby to purple. The medium/full bodied palate shows a stern, reserved quality that detracts from the pleasure of the wine and gives is a slightly unbalanced character. Tannins makes a statement on the finish. Hopefully a few more years of bottle age will bring a more harmonious impression.

Domaine Tempier Tourtine and Migoua (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): Gorgeous deep purple. Creosote, smoke, and blackberry. In the mouth, like 2 separate wines, with nice weight and upfront sweetness, but then you are quickly sucked into a vortex of searing acidity and tannin which leaves a dry finish. Lots of soil on the end. Pretty brutal, severe young wine which is nowhere near drinkability, but I can see it turning out well if given a lot of time in bottle.

This wine just dances for you. It is hard to describe the overall effect of this wine -- the black cherry and blackberry flavors, the fine, sun-warmed gravel, the spices and .... it's the way it pulls it all together in one of the most amazing balancing acts I've ever tasted. This is a powerful wine that some people don't appreciate at first because of the very elegance and good breeding that makes it so special. Needs decanting, and good food and thoughtful drinkers who don't need to be hit in the head with loud sugary fruit. A wine to age, and it's so wonderful that I'm not even annoyed at the thought of it not being at its best right now. This one makes you willing to wait.
