Still drinking well. Pretty, soft, ripe cabernet with juicy fruit and medium length with just a touch of fine-grained ripe tannin showing on the finish. Great with our pasta dinner.

Seven years in the box. My first bottle of this. Black cherry, tar, leather, prunes. Very soft and polished, this wine has a tremendous elegance. Multi-layered and quite complex. Showing its age but still holding.

Outstanding (still). While recent reviews have suggested that this wine has peaked (I said so myself back in 2018) most also said it can stay at this level for quite a while longer, and I agree! Smooth, rich, deep, nuanced, balanced, with a creamy velvety long finish. Just wonderful. And being as it was a garagiste "mystery wine" some 6 years ago (cheap cheap cheap) it's PQR is pretty high!

Last one of these beauties purchased as a Garagiste "mystery wine" back in 2015. Still a rather youthful-looking, semi-opaque magenta in the glass, lightening right at the edge. Very pretty scents of crushed dark berries, coffee, leather and cigar box on the nose. Offers a mouthwatering combination of ripe, delicious plum, blackberry and dark currant fruit, matched perfectly to a moderate acidity. Shows excellent depth and pinpoint focus. Superbly balanced. Finishes very long, with lingering notes of earth and spice. The tannins are smooth as silk. We were surprised at how much fruit this still showed after so many years. A polished, elegant and delicious Tuscan gem. 50+5+12+17+8=92

Surprisingly unchanged from nearly 4 years ago. Not showing any signs of being over the hill, but staying at peak. I doubt this will improve a whole lot more, but I'm sure it will continue to evolve additional tertiary character.

Tasted NB. Opened with a light old world nose, medium garnet color. Bell curved tasting experience, did not decant and initially fairly closed. Then, a 2-hr stretch with surprisingly lengthy and enjoyably meandering cherry wood finishes. While still quite bright, by the last glass its finish was truncating. Quite enjoyable low alcohol red that would easily pair with a range of foods, but time to drink up any bottles in your cellar.

A tremendous amount of sludge in this bottle. Even a day after decanting it was very cloudy. I tried it and it was flavourful but it was difficult to get past the very cloudy contents of the glass so I dumped the bottle. As I still have a few of these left I hope the remainder are better.

Decanted and found lots of sludge, but this may have hastened the early decline of this bottle. After dinner it tasted a bit off and completely off the next day. It was delicious early on with deep ripe dark red grits and an earthy spiciness. Drink it now.

Solid. Smooth big creamy wine with dark fruit on the nose, an ample palate of tannin, fruit and acids that mingle and mix with great conviviality. Further aging will not improve this wine but its got enough "stuff" to hang in there for a while longer while you decide when to open your bottles. As usual for Garigiste, great PQR - thank you Jon.....

This was sadly a very much younger sibling to the 2000 that was damn near perfect. Not even close to the same punch of flavor even after hours open and a few days later under gas. Quite delicate with a short finish. I'd drink this now but, unfortunately, don't expect a repeat of the 2000 that was expertly procured by garagiste.

This bottle was not quite as good as a previous one. Upon opening, it had a bit of a funky smell and some earthy notes. There were hints of prune/raisin in the fruit initially as well. However, as this took on air for about 30+ minutes, it started to round into much better shape. The fruit became more tart and crisp, the acidity began to shine through, and the initial off notes seemed to go away. Paired well with Mom D's homemade lasagna and meatballs.

Decanted. Enjoyed over two days with food. Day one: Big, dark, and opaque. Initially, not nearly as aromatic, mature, nor expressive as the 2000 version of this wine, which was enjoyed earlier in the week. For fifteen years old, this is still monstrously youthful and bold with flavors of cherry pie, blackberry cobbler, spicy currant, black olive, and black, cedar mulch mixed with loam. Noticeably gritty tannins and strong acidity in the mix which in turn lead to a very, very long finish with some dark bitter chocolate at the end.
Day two: Much better integrated, and approachable. Lots of aromatics and flavors. Tends more to soft red fruits. Unfortunately, it fell apart after about two hours and became flat and plummy.
Overall: This still has a few years ahead of it, if stored properly. Needs a solid decant and food, even now. I expect this will drink well for another 4-5 years.

Very dark, opaque, dark violet garnet, deep color. The smells are dark berries, dark chocolate, earth and garrigue. The tastes are currants, garrigue, earth, tea, graphite, and blackberry with some sweet spices. The tannins are tooth staining and the finish is lengthy and complex with delicious sour notes.

Color is dark red/purple and not translucent. Wow! What a nose that just jumps from the glass with dark cherry, violets and leather. Initial flavors of black cherry and tobacco with a velvety softness. Not a lot of tannins or acidity. Some green vegetal tones with baked red fruit and leather on the finish. This is interesting! Very different than most super-tuscans, but also one of the most aged I have had. Give it some time in the glass and it gets better and better. Quite good.

Deeper and darker than just brick colored in the glass with more of an earthiness to the wine and less "sour" black cherry on the nose than the 2000. What a smooth powerhouse of a wine that is just silky in the mouth. After an hour open, the wine started to transform from a sage forward note to the black cherry dominating the nose. Absolutely built for food and will be that way for HOURS after opening. Another great value from Garagiste!

Coravin taste-off: Aged Italians (mostly) from Garagiste: Tasted alongside the 2000. The 2001 didn't have the musty nose initially, but was otherwise very similar to the 2000. Maybe a touch more depth to the fruit and a bit more tannins on the finish. This is also drinking beautifully. I would guess this will last a bit longer than the 2000 so I would drink the 2000 first. Slightly bigger than the 2000 but not a huge difference. Excellent value.

Much better with food than by itself. A bit fatigued overall, showing its age, though it drank well (with food) for about 2 hours.

Hard to say how this would drink by itself, but paired with Italian food it was outstanding. Medium bodied, just the right amount of fruit.

It was what I expected. And I could drink a 100 of these. The bottle you get while in country that the locals don't drink at home but would recognize as very well done.

Intenso granato. Al naso predominano le note del cabernet sauvignon, con mirtillo e ribes, poi violetta, fungo, ginepro, spezie dolci, menta, cioccolato fondente, note ematiche. Bocca piena, di grande soddisfazione, buon allungo finale

The favorite bottle of our small Italian wine tasting last night. Deep ruby in color, very silky with a long finish. Was worried about enjoying slightly after the Drink range dates, but it's still holding it's own. Perfecto!

Very dark garnet. Nose reminds of clack currant, kentucky tobacco, goudron, black pepper, earth, balsamic notes, bitter chocolate. Intense mouth, tertiary notes are evident but the wine still has some years ahead before starting to decline.

Garnet with ruby rim. Nose reminds of sour cherry, coffee, earth, green peppercorns, balsamic herbs. Mouth shows well integrated and silky tannins, with nice acidity to balance. Long finish

Very classic bordeux style nose. Even more claret style in the mouth. Some leather berries graphite, pepper and smoke. Long finish Excellent and ready to drink wine.
