I am a little bit on the fence on this one. A complex and very fruit friendly wine. Had the brioche notes that I like. But it felt like the wine lacked a bit of freshness and acidity.

Home-drinking - Vivacious but quality mousse. Lots of yellow fruits. Pear, quince. There was apple too as it opened but Pinot-led flavours are less pronounced than one would expect from the 60% PN in the blend. Lot of amplitude and fat on the midpalate. Should get more layered with aging. It feels like the underlying fruit was appropriately ripe. Together with the medium dosage (by todays standards) this lends a nougat-like quality. Acidity is medium minus. Clos des Goisses is a famed long ager. A perfectly good drink today but better things beckon with time

This was a simply splendid bottle of champagne. It needed about an hour of air but then flowers, peach, citrus and apricot. Really intense but beautifully elegant mouthfeel. Lovely bottle.

Salon Ficofi Paris walkabout tasting and dinner, no detailed tasting notes. From Jero. I went to this with great anticipation after having tasted so many good, high end Champagnes already. It did not let me down. Very youthful but very expressive with generous pinot spice, flowers, 2012 charm and excellent freshness. Similar to the Egly 2008.

Way too young not even close to being ready. Very crisp, light straw color, very vivacious bubbles. Muted on the nose beyond some chalk, citrus, stones, very mineral. Great lift mid palate and a nice finish without a lot of complexity. Best left to rest 5 or more years.

Deep yellow, not that lively. Powerful toasty aromas. Full body. Not that dry. Bright citrus, later black fruit, ginger, herb, outstanding acidity and stoniness. So penetrating it makes the tongue quiver. Great Champagne with decades ahead of it.

Mouton dinner (La Chaumiere in Georgetown): More intense yellow than the 08 DP. Expressive nose displaying rich yellow fruit, baked apple, yellow peach, lemon curd, light caramel, sweet spices and mineral. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of sweet yellow fruit, fine medium generous mousse, rich and deeply toned, bright acidity and limestone mineral, and a long concentrated ripe yellow fruit driven finish with caramel and brioche at the end. This clearly expresses the richness of the 12 vintage and the house style.

An awesome way to be welcomed in St Martin. Wow such elegance. Light nose and frankly even lighter in mouth. Found it disappearing without swallowing. That is how delicate and light this was. Certainly young and great potential. 95+

Danish Top 20 champagne blind tasting vintage 2012 (24 btls) (Nimb): Horisontal half blind tasting of 24 top champagnes from vintage 2012. Conclusion: It is a great vintage. My topratings were to some extent unexpected. My winner was Diebolt-Vallois Fleur de Passion which I rated 96. In a shared second place with 94+ were Legras Saint Vincent (unexpected but I don't forget that 1996 might be the best champagne I have ever tasted so far. Try to get a btl. if you can. It is difficult but worth it - still in a perfect drinking window), Veuve Clicquot vintage(!), Moet & Chandon Grand vintage(!) and Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.
This wine: Notes of lemon and wet stone. Bitterness on the palate. (Too) aggressive mousse. Rating based on performance right now.

Nose was closed, even 2 hours after opening. Palate very much open with a juicy grape candy backbone and leesy supporting notes, plus flashes of dark chocolate and cherries and even vanilla. Overall a good dining companion and won’t disappoint now but I’d like to see it again in a few years to see if it develops some savory notes to counterpoint the candy store, which would make it truly great.

During a Domaine visit, which confirmed that this house has a very compact range with good quality all way down to its base cuvees. Now for the big gun o the house. Discrete nose, still closed, with red and yellow fruits and blackberry leaves. Light and elegant. Sappy and fresh. I think this will be great once mature. I currently drink the 2002 and 2004 of the house, so I think this is a good 10 years away from peak. 95-97

Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): A pre-release bottle which made it's way to our dinner. Small pour. Also very young but with good potential. '12 is a great year although I'm not sure I'm yet convinced that it's quite the level of '08. A wine to check in on again in 20+ years.

While this was a nice magnum of wine, it certainly was not worth the entry fee. It had citrus and mineral, sharp, and a maybe a tad short.

Superung men ändå tilltalande.
