Nose: rose petals, orange rind Notes: Mongeard Mugneret has been known and has demonstrated its consistency and excellence in its wines, especially the vintages from mid-late 90s. Nevertheless it is also apparent that their non Vielles Vignes Echezeaux underperforms significantly to other Grand Crus, maybe even when compared to Clos Vougeot. This 99 is a bit light and tired and doesn't seem like there's much life left in it. It's rather unfortunate that this wine show this performance. I cannot be sure if this is a bottle variation but judging from this bottle I should say this needs to be consumed sooner rather than later and it is not so pleasurable. Drink: now+ Rating: 87

Impressively open-knit showing for a '99 grand cru, and starting to show some maturity as well. The fruit's into that winey, leathery stage although it still has plenty of flesh and body to it, but the main appeal here is the silky texture - it's been awhile since I've had a '99 that drank so smoothly and effortlessly.

Light ruby color; opaque. Toasted French oak (kind of woody) on the nose, cherry, earth, dry forest leaves. Appreciable for about 15-20 minutes. Then it was gone. No score.

Lovely transluscent ruby with no hint of age. Cherry jello (but in a good way) and dusty sandalwood aromas. Sweet raspberry fruit and very nice acidity. Good finish. Delicate, feminine PN. Has enough fruit and acidity to go a few more years.

this pinot is absolutely beautiful! a great example of the vintage, ripe cherry flavors, clean acidity. silky mouthfeel with a long lasting finish. developed in the glass very well overtime. tasted against 02 arnoux echezeaux and out performed it. still seems to be very ageable, yet drinkable at the current moment. cheers.

1999 Red Burgundy Tasting: Tasting, brief note. Good strawberry aromas with a bit of obtrusive new oak. Elegant and subtle flavors, but good combination of fresh fruit and spice, all nicely textured and elegant. Best on the young side for GC.

Not as good as last bottle from 9 years ago. Seems a bit kore one dimensional with a shorter finish. Seems to be on the decline.

Solid but lacked excitement. We were hoping for more.

Opened and the cork was solid, but the wine was tired and tasted of brownish leaves. Never got better.

This was ready to drink with silky cherry flavors and a wonderful earthiness. Really pleasant long finish.
