Deep saturated ruby. Bursting with black fruit, flowers, and herbs. Medium weight, gorgeous suave texture with deep soil base. Vivid, ripe blackberry and blueberry, licorice, fine acidity, and round unobtrusive tannins. I have been critical of this cuvée before, but this is as good an example as I’ve had. This is the third 2020 Mugnier wine I’ve tried, and the depth and volume of fruit in all of them have been breathtaking. No need to decant during this fruit forward stage.

3 hour double decant yields lovely aromas of crème de cassis, forest floor and a touch of peppery spice that gives way to a rich, intense, sweet black cherry core that just fades ever so slowly.

Red fruited, tons of cherry, very slightly earthy. Very clean, low tension, medium concentration. Light, bright fresh cherry at the mid-palate. Some spice in the finish. A very nice, very pretty wine, gentle, lovely. Doesn't have a ton of tension or cerebral complexity, but really great – the kind of wine I'd feel very lucky to have any day.

A very bold, and almost hot nose with liqueured cherries, blackberry, a fair bit of pepper and some stony notes.
Palate is broad shouldered, slightly harsh tannins, even with plenty of air. Also here, I felt the alcohol, felt somewhat disjointed.. No transparency in sight, difficult to get a good read on this at present.
I think this is a wine to bury deep in the cellar and see if something could develop with time.

Mercury Mouth ft Becky Wasserman Burgs w/Tim Davey (E&R Wines, Portland OR): The nose is wound a bit tight, but with a restrained power to the tones of dark red berries, dark red cherries, raspberries, herbs, crushed rocks, licorice, and a touch of black tea. There is excellent complexity here, but for clearly youthful reasons, this isn't working in full harmony. The Medium boded feel is robust and balanced with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. This is starting from a really strong base, but it is absolutely too young and it will need some time to fully round into form.

Mercury Mouth Becky Wasserman Tasting (E&R Wine Shop, Portland, Oregon): Wine 11 of 11. Ruby-purple, a lot of cherry, cherry-liquer, and black tea. Texture of water, med+ tannins, long finish. Of course Mugnier is great and this a good bottle but the stiff competition in the lineup puts this towards the bottom half of the reds.

From magnum off a restaurant list, this was quite impressive relative to the price. There's some of Mugnier's signature elegance and transparency, but it's brawnier and more dark fruited than the Chambolle wines. Surprisingly open, I assume it will shut down soon and re-emerge as something quite different in a couple of decades.

Quite dark nose with notes of cherries, wild berries, sweet fruit, and spices. Well balanced palate with nice acidity, good structure, and more red and dark fruit flavors (cherries, strawberries). Nice finish. There was a nice intensity on the nose that carried through on the palate. This was quite good at this early stage but really needs at least 5-10 years to shine. 92-93+

Big. Dark. Ripe sweet black plum fruit with a hint of prune. Medium grippy tannin with lowish acid. Weighing in at a heavyweight 14.5% alcohol I was prepared to not like this, but… With airtime, and after a day or so on Coravin, it stretched its legs and I wanted to walk with it. Like other tasters, I second DCwino’s comments.

2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Expressive nose displaying rich concentrated black fruit, blackberry concentrated, blackberry jam, light caramel, sweet spices and earth. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated sweet black fruit, rich, generous and round, medium acidity, earthy mineral, and a long sweet concentrated black fruit driven finish with a hint of licorice at the end. This is drinking really well with sweet generous black fruit,

Infanticide. Too youth to drink. Only red and black fruit. Will need time to evolve.

DCWino’s note nails it. Blackberry jam, spicy
Decanted it for an hour but it still felt tight. Complex. Has the potential to be 94.
