Just like their Chambolle-Musigny I tried recently but packed a lot more punch. Tertiary notes on the nose (almost can smell pineapple?), similar balance of mid-level wood notes and cherry fruit. More strawberry than black fruit as the supporting notes. Picked up some nutty notes as it finished opening up in glass.

My Birthday Weekend; 10/23/2020-10/25/2020 (Chicagoland IL): Open an hour+ before serving. Lots of black and red cherry with very savory spice. Good depth and complexity, but this wasn’t quite as harmonious and perfectly balanced as a few previous bottles. Needed more air?

Dark garnet, much denser than the 2011 next to it. Intriguing nose. Red fruit with black fruit mixed, also some black tea and autumn leaves notes. May be not the last word on HN elegance but a solid Richebourg.

This is a big richebourg. Nose has iron, dark fruit and herbs, but it lacks the vr floralness. Palate has very good power but the fruit turns to plummy with more time in the glass. As I am a strong believer that 90s noellat is not good, this wine actually surprises me on the upside. However, it should be consumed sooner than later.

This one is holding strong at 94 its. Pretty classic richebourg in my book with big, warm slightly rustic flavors and a nice amount of complexity to keep things interesting. Very nice stuff.

Perfectly balanced classic Richebourg. Not as powerful as a DRC or Leroy but it has a harmony that is tough to resist. Was paired with a Leroy Corton that was flamboyant in comparison.

Richebourg Night (The Bristol - Chicago IL): What a great showing. Nothing flashy here - just everything good you want in Richebourg in perfect balance and proportion. Still nicely fresh, so upside from here as it slowly and gracefully evolves.

Vosne lunch at Garibaldi. Dark red, definitely the deepest apperance of the 3 Vosne wines on show. A rather muted nose, certainly not as exotic and opulent as the 96 Richebourg and the 96 Echezeaux, but portrayed a different sort of attraction. This was a little brooding and tight, with darker fruit - plums, blackcurrants, berries and grapefruit. There was also black pepper, earth, dark chocolate, mocha and black truffle. Very firm structure on the palate, with lots of tannin and acid, along with the mentioned dark fruit. A great contrast to the 96 Richebourg which appeared more open for business. This definitely needs more time as it has lots of potential, but on the afternoon, just not opening up. I would love to try this again in 5-10 years.

Richebourg Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Wow - this was firing on all cylinders. Similar to a bottle I had last year, I thought this was surprisingly generous and open for a relatively "young' Richebourg. Indeed, it was the only bottle of less than 20 years old that seemed to be anywhere near ready on the night. It had such a warm, generous nose to it, with earth and meat, plus and dried cherries, savoury dried figs, all this suffused with a lovely warm spiciness. A great bouquet, even more open than the last bottle I thought. The palate more than lived up the promise held out by the nose too - powerful, sinewy and masculine, yet marked by the finest tannins and lovely, juicy acidity, this filled the mouth with generous flavours of dark fruit lined with complex little notes of orange peel, dried figs and savoury, meat and olive flavours, all this stretching away into a long, mouth filling finish. Wow. Absolutely delicious, beautifully complete, with not a trace of 1998 woodiness to it - a great wine, seemingly at a perfect place now.

Lot's of good notes on this one so I won't be redundant. Just to say that it gets better each time I try it and is textbook Richebourg. I'm happy to serve it any time. Should last and improve for at least 5 more years.

From the moment the cork was pulled, you could tell this was a very serious wine. Dark and brooding, yet open and giving. Vosne spice, dark fruit. Beautiful mouthfeel. Goes on and on, improving with time in the glass. I'll likely hold my remaining bottle, but this can be approached with pleasure now.

Vosne-Romanee Grand Crus for Michael and Peter's Birthdays 2015 (Gattopardo Restaurant, Tras Street, Singapore): This was magnificent. It is not often the very first bottle of the evening turns out to be the wine of the night, but this was remained head and shoulders above its company even when some really good wines emerged throughout the evening. It had a lovely nose, a little reserved perhaps, but showing both subtlety and clarity in its quietly attractive aromas of dark cherries wreathed in dried earth and a bit of meatiness and then just that little blush of spice. It was on the palate where the wine really pleased though. This had a wonderful warmth and generosity to it, with more of those deliciously meaty nuances paired with a vibrant spiciness that wove its way through lovely flavours of dark cherry, all showing a beautiful clarity in the mouth. At the same time, the wine was remarkably soft and advanced for a 1998 Richebourg, coming across really round and elegant and just wonderful to drink. It was earthier and more generous than the 1998 Hudelot-Noellat Romanee St Vivant that followed, showing more of those umami meat and mushroom notes that always speak to me of Richebourg, and there was still a subtle musculature and a fullness on the long finish that shows off the terroir; but all that aside, this was actually so graceful and elegant that one would have easily mistaken it for an RSV. It is drinking beautifully now as well. The bright acidity just flattens out slightly towards finish, suggesting that it is just about at peak, and what a peak too. A great, great start to the night.

Still most excellent, pretty much like the last, very masculine in style with dark red fruit, secondary flavors, with floral nose hidden beneath the dark fruit. Solid palate and long finish still got a long way to go.

Alex's 'Top Burgundy' 2012 (The Medlar, London): Dense but also nicely lifted nose with a sweet-fruited core. Very ripe, rounded and quite fat on the palate, positive attack and beautifully rounded across the mid-palate. Dense, velvety and long with a bright cherry-led fruit. Still quite minerally with a bit of bite on the finish. ****

Pretty dark red in color, nose of dark red fruit, herbal and slightly minty, rather masculine in style, nose got more floral and deep. Very ripe and layered, very fine Richebourg.

Great wine, just entering its drinking window. The balance is impeccable, but what impresses most is the length of the wine: wow! Fruit, spices, al in perfect harmony. When a Bourgogne is right, it is really, really right. This is an example of this.

Took a while to get going. Hints of red fruits but slightly vegetal. Not as intense as I had expected and let down by a dry finish. Felt like it needs drinking up.

Great spice and great combination of red and black fruit. Wonderful balance, very good length and depth. Almost as good as the HN 98 RSV tasted for the first time last year.

This has mature fruit flavours, with redcurrant and raspberry evolving toasted vegetal flavours; a hint of beetroot; elegance rather than power with good length.

Mature, slightly vegetal nose, with some fruit in evidence (raspberries, cherries); the palate is ripe, mature, elegant, not especially intense, but the finish is long. Very attractive, if not truly great.
