(96-98 vvPunkte) Leuchtendes Rubin, tiefe Farbe.

Deep garnet with purple accents around the rim. Asian spice, cedar, tobacco leaf, cocoa, licorice, flowers and blackberries, with black cherry and light notes of espresso show up with ease on the nose. The wine is full-bodied, with incredible polish, plushness and supple textures, yet it remains classic in style and character. Balanced on the corners of freshness, length, character and complexity. This is not a Mouton Rothschild that is about concentration, flamboyance and power. Instead it is focused on its purity, energy and refined, silky tannins. It is also not a vintage that will demand decades to develop into maturity. It should be gorgeous to drink with perhaps a decade of age, and will evolve for at least 2-3 decades after that with ease. The wine blends 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, 13.1% ABV. The harvest took place September 25, finishing October 6. Drink from 2030-2060. 95-97

No notes due to 400 wines at EP. This is a tough one, as Mouton is one of my absolute favorite wines and was a wine I was really looking forward to… but if the sample I had (tasted twice) is a true representation of the final wine, this was a huge swing and a miss. Good news it saves me money by not having to buy this vintage. Now my caveat is it could have been bad samples pulled as the critics seemed to like it… SMH.

En-Primeur campaign for the 2021 vintage; 4/25/2022-4/29/2022 (Bordeaux): Medium minus intensity aromas of blackcurrant, brambles, black hued fruits, sweet spice, cedar, a little meaty note here as well. Medium plus intensity acidity, like the petit the tannins are quite overwhelming, chalky chewy and drying, those black hued fruits are present but in a support role. All travels long with a little red fruit note becoming more evident on the nose. Hmm

Incredible stuff. The vintage was really tough and challenging. Mouton found the right balance despite all the difficulties. 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. According to Hervé Gouin, this Mouton ranges some where between the 2014 and the 2015. The balance is just amazing. Great structure with already ultrafine tannins. Exciting Mouton nose. Fruit and graphite. Extra long finish. Great. Ahead of Lafite. 99-100
