Lovely Zin. On the elegant side for Zin. Sappy and fruity, with a mix of blues and blacks, and red fruit highlights. Nice finish. Solid Zin in a forward style.

My favorite of these 7 vintages of Black Chicken graciously offered by John at BP tonight. Stands out because its beautiful acidity balances the black pepper and berry extraction, elegant and rich, classic iron fist in a silk glove. This will improve over the next two years, and drink well for 5. Duck confit wuth cherries might be a perfect match.

Second wine of the second tranche of BC's brought by John tonight. Mid garnet in the glass, somewhat muted nose. Palate of more red than black fruit with increased acidity and decent spice so this one will roll on for quite a while......

Deep dark purple garnet in color; almost opaque. Full, forward, & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of briary & earthy notes, spices, herbs, pepper, dark cocoa, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and mulberries with spices, herbs, minerals, dark cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended but has the structure to continue developing with additional aging.

14.8% abv. Dark ruby, plus aromatics. Ripe plum, raspberry, cloves, mint and white pepper. Pure, intense, deep, and long. Really singing at this early stage - pure Napa Zin goodness!

I had ordered 2 of these bottles, 1 to age and 1 to taste. Both are gone.
On the nose, stewed dark fruit, vanilla and subtle oak. Initial sips yielded stewed blackberry, cassis, plum, vanilla, and subtle leather. This had lovely tertiary flavors of toffee and white pepper. Lengthy finish.
Med+ bodied, silky tannins, smooth and well balanced sweetness.
Though this is still young, it is fantastic, and will likely age beautifully over the next few years. Not a cheap bottle, but worth the price. Will sip again.

Crimson in color. 14.8% ABV. The nose on this wine seemingly explodes from the glass. Scents of red and black fruits, baking spices and white pepper. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Silky, smooth and well balanced. Black cherry, raspberry liqueur, cloves and pepper on the palate. The finish is very long and supple. Charming Zinfandel that drinks well now but has the structure to age well. Best over the next 3-5 years. $55 at the winery and retail.
