I think I had a better bottle and experience than the last two notes on this. Mature and very full coloured, but in good condition and finishes dry. An obvious reminder of the power of Chenin Blanc to age.

Mild aroma of white flowers and peach at the beginning followed by strong honey wax notes and finish with some tropical fruits (e.g. mango) flavor. It has some body and intensity on palate but finish is not long and very spicy.

Classic aged Loire Chenin Blanc bouquet with waxy note, white flowers, stone fruits. Slightly oxidative but that only adds complexity.
Completely dry, medium acidity. The 21 years it has had in the bottle have given the wine a good body and texture. This would stand up to any poultry or game based dishes. Great wine for the fall.
I won't wait any longer. This is ready for the party. Again another amazing value from this great region. 91.

Saturday hangout (Chicago, IL): Oxidative like whoa. There's a lot of waxy fruit here and some acids that don't feel very well integrated. The alcohol also seems to poke through quite a bit -- this is certainly a very, very odd duck. Really, really not my preferred kind of wine.

Semi-Blind Whites (Our House -- Philadelphia): I just was not a fan of this. I love the sweet Chenin, but I did not think the age added "good" depth and complexity to this. Very metallic tasting. Smoky apricot with some secondary caramel and brown sugar. But the metallic note dominated and I could not get by it. This was probably my least favorite wine of the night, and the irony is that it was followed by a sweet Chenin as the first wine in the next flight (the Chaume) -- and that was one of my favorites of the night. I'll give this (or a similar wine) another shot in the future.

Semi-Blind White Wine Tasting (Casa Roberts): people did not like this, but i thought t was a very nice example of loire chenin blanc. quince, caramel, apricot, and sea salt. medium(+) finish. great value at $20 if you can find it (and if you like chenin!)

Yellow color. Nose of apricots and tropical fruits with some petrol mixed in. This is drinking very well right now after a splash decant. Followed over two hours and it really fleshed out. I am starting to think 6-10 years of age is my sweet spot for drinking savennieres.

Nose was better than the palate. Didn't get the best read on this. It suffered next to the Papillon. But, interesting in the way older wine can be interesting.

A deep golden colour. The nose has lemon marmalade and honey. Very rich on the palate. Lovely feel of maturity to this. A very classy bottle.

These old Savennieres can be fierce experience, especially the understanding of mouthfeeling can be challanged a little.
