  • Eh. It’s fine. There’s red pit fruit…some cough medicine…herbs…dirt. Lots going on but kind of uncut. A bit unsettled. Not young, just not together. Fine acidity on the palate ensures life. Still kind of youthful. Not as beautiful as I typically find wines from this producer, but it’s still ok. But not worth a buyer’s premium. A mocha element emerges on day 2 - quality level consistent. • 3/6, very good cork.
Medium garnet core, pale rim. Nose shows strawberry and raspberry fruit infused with a touch of soil and mineral. Game too. Medium bodied, strawberry fruit' elegant with very fine tannins, fresh acids, good length finish. Drinking well.

  • From 75cl, perfect cork, opened but not decanted 30 minutes. Best on opening, deteriorated slightly over 2 hours. Fine beef consommée aromas, warm savoury entry with bright acidity and redcurrant-pip tannins; full red fruited mid-palate with strong, astringent, mouth-puckering gain to the deliciously fine-grained tannic finish. The most hedonistically enjoyable, delicate, complete and delicious wine from GB/BN I can remember tasting, this bottle was superbly au point this evening. 91P

  • 2/6. Excellent cork.
Pale/med limpid garnet core, pale garnet rim. Raspberries and violets waft from the glass, framed by soil and a touch of mulch. Medium bodied, raspberry fruit, old-vine creamy edge, soil and a touch of savour, elegant, tannins pretty much resolved, vibrant acids carrying a lightly mulchy good length finish with a faint tickle of tannin. Delicious and now drinking well.

  • Keeps a musty smell of dry mushrooms for an hour or so after opening. Though the fruit is still nicely intact. The texture is by far the best part as it is effortlessly silky. Subtle acid and tannin. Bit of moss and mushroom as it finishes but the wine is still very much about it’s primary flavors. Would be delightful with monkfish. But again a wonderful lesson in texture.

  • The only thing really distinguishing this is that you know it is a village Chambolle and that is about it. Acidity is overbalanced for the lack of fruit, as foreseen by a very unforthcoming nose. Not flawed, just underwhelming.

  • Sappy red fruit and gaining richness in mid palate; finish is leaner, acidic, and not sure it will round out. Works with wild mallard though.

  • Good for the vintage. Quite tannic. Not sure it will improve. Better on backend and nose was not really pleasant. Light and fine with food. Not a wow wine.

  • Beautiful ruby color that turns to pink at the rim. Somewhat unfocused nose that is a bit if a surprise from this producer. There are violets and red fruit but also a very prominent medicinal character that is not that pleasant. The palate is filled with tart juicy fruit yet there is significant structure on the backend. I have a few more bottles and will keep them a minimum of 5 to 7 years. Surprisingly very youthful. We will see how it rounds into form. The last glass was by far the best – open early if drinking soon. (88+?)

  • Fantastic villages here. Brings all things Chambolle. Medium purple-red. Interesting and well-rounded aromatics. Simultaneous elegance and power on the palate. Gets a little heavy and dark-fruited on day two -- definitely better on day one. No need to rush on these, but in a great place right now.

  • Pale/medium ruby core, medium pale ruby rim. Nose is slightly reticent, strawberry fruit, some darker fruit notes, earth and mineral notes. Medium bodied on the palate, attractive strawberry and raspberry on the initial attack, some firm underlying tannins which are a touch too prominent at this point and overshadow and constrain the medium length finish. Should improve from here.

  • About a year since I last tasted. Big, backward, slightly tannic, acidic, youthful, not sure about the balance here. Young red fruit -- tart, somewhat unfriendly. Awkward. I guess you get it by now. I'd hold for at least another year before trying again.

  • Saturday Smorgasbord of Tastings (San Francisco): Half bottle. Rather dark. Weird aromatics right out of the bottle, but with vigorous swirling, this cleaned up and showed more appealing red fruit. Also somewhat heavy at first, but with air, seemed more typical weight. Not as much invigorating acidity as in the '07 and thus it has a duller feel. Pretty much ready out of this format. Not inspiring and given the usual purity of Barthod wines and the initial off aromas, I'm tempted to think that something was amiss with this bottle.

  • Drunk over two days (well, about 16 hrs). First day: popped and poured, the colour is a beautiful red ruby and it's quite transparent. At the beginning the nose is dominated by the oak. After swirling some mushrooms/undergrowth come up, later red berries and a balsamic note. The palate is quite fresh, with good aromatic intensity (mainly of red berries) all the way through and a good structure. It ends with very firm tannins which are very fine grained. All in all good components on the palate but not quite well integrated yet: I did not find it well balanced.
On the second day the nose has lost some intensity and freshness, whereas the palate has improved the balance and overall smoothness. In particular the tannins had become softer/better integrated.
I fear I missed the best moment, which must have been some time in the night: I should have decanted longer on the first day. Perhaps it will improve in a few years, but at this price point (55 Fr. ~60$), I am not sure I will want to find out.

  • Dark cherry red with violet rim. In the nose, very fragile and finely woven with raspberry, yellowish notes (yellow plum?), roses and some cocoa. With more air, the nose gets more and more seductive, riche, headier and more expansive. On the palate, mineralic, very fine acidity, slightly furry tannins and very fine fruit notes. Finish driven by red berry sweetness and acidity. Beautiful, but needs more time.

  • Great stuff.. Drinks well above its level. Complex. Lean, taut, lots of rocks, focused red fruits. Laser-like midpalate and finish. Would never have guessed 2006 blind. Simply awesome. Much more impressive than the 2007 at this juncture.

  • Good village Chambolle with typicity - floral notes on the nose, tart fruit core that occasionally shows a bit of sweeter sap, smooth on the palate with some slightly bitter tannic structure showing. You can't help but yearn for a bit more generosity or sweetness from the fruit though. A good enough first bottle I've had from this producer that I would try again, but not a great value at the price you pay. 88-90

I do believe there is significant upside potential here as the tannin resolves, however.

  • The core is medium intense ruby on this puppy, with a slightly clearing rim. Medium intense on the nose, it shows red fruits with a slightly blossomy floral note; i.e. “typical” Chambolle. Unfortunately, I also detect a slight earthy/mouldy note, which may be the goût moisie-terreux Kevin Harvey alerted us to last year.
Medium-bodied on the attack, medium-minus tannins and medium-plus acidity combined still have good grip. This is rather classically styled in a good sense, as the structure is reasonably well balanced by pure medium-plus intense raspberry flavours on the mid-palate. A cretaceous edge of minerals adds interest, but here too aforementioned ailment shines through until the 20 second finish runs out of steam. I’ll give 87 points for this showing, but if the earthy/mouldy thing gets any stronger there will be downside, rather than the two points upside I foresee now 3-5 years down the road...... • Nice village red burg from a fine producer. Popped and poured. Reticent at first, but opened over time. Bright cherry red. Subtle red fruits on the nose. After an hour, nice soft balanced palate of cherry, some minerality and a hint of licorice. Good wine and about what you would expect. Maybe needs another year or two in bottle.

  • Very young, but this has everything it needs for the medium term. Very bright crimson colour, somewhat reserved nose, bright red fruits, more discreet dark fruits (hinting at things to come?) and everything in balance on the palate with plenty of acidity and fine tannin.

  • From tank, slated for bottling tomorrow, so this is what it'll be. The cherry scent here is deeper pitched than the Bons Batons, but this is also more heavily structured with a tough, grainy finish.
