14.3% abv. Recent auction purchase. About what you'd expect from a 16 year old ripe & candied style California Pinot Noir. As others have noted, this is very light colored -- I've seen darker roses. This still has plenty of ripe fruit -- it just tastes...evolved. It was Ok, just not that interesting at this stage in its life. No one will mistake this for aged Burg, that's for sure. If scoring, I'd go with 85 - 86 at this moment in its evolution.

Medium, hazy crimson in color. Nice aromas of cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, and cola. The mouth shows cherry and red berry notes, with subtle flavors of tea leaves, herb, and citrus accents. Medium finish.

This was a very unique bottle of Cali pinot. Far lighter in color than most Cali pinots, with so-so aromas of cherry, raspberry, and smoky oak. However, the flavor was wonderful and the finish lasted a good 30-45 seconds, with some spice. Made me think more of an Oregon pinot with a little extra fruit than a typical Cali pinot. I detected some significant acidity on first sip, but as we drank the bottle it never became an issue of too much acidity. This wine paired very well with a vegetarian cheese casserole in a tomato-based (acidic) sauce, which caused the remaining fruit of the wine to really shine through. Drink now, as I don't see this improving with age at all, unless you are one who loves a long finish but doesn't like much fruit in their pinot (in which case why are you drinking Cali pinot in the first place? ;-)

Still drinking very nicely, this shows raspberry and red cherry aromas and flavors. Good structure balances with the ripe fruit. I have one more bottle and think it's time to drink up, with the heat a bit more prominent on finish vs. what I recall when tasted shortly after release.

Murky and brick-colored throughout with a presence of sugar stewed strawberries on the bouquet, and a nice pine-needle scent. At first, this was rough and difficult to enjoy, showing disjointed and even hot at times. Through the first night it improved, though it still felt more gloppy and unresolved than I recollect from a prior tasting. If you pare out the pieces, you'll find some nice Pinot components with lavender, violet, dark cherry flavors and something reminiscent of Indian spices. I drank the majority of the bottle, the remainder, on night-2. It wasn't any more glorious, but it seemed to present a more heavy-bodied/presence Pinot experience than what I generally lean toward in the Sonoma arena. No major flaws, save for lack of inspiration -- this bottle.

The nose is expressive with tones of ripe strawberry, cinnamon, sundried tomatoes, and spice box. It opens on the palate with lush but focused red berry compote and interesting undertones of ripe tomato and oregano. The mid-palate tends toward earthy tobacco and savory spices, merging into a lengthy finish highlighting hints of olive and charred tart strawberry. The wine is light-medium bodied but powerful in flavor. It has beautifully smooth transitions and good focus on the palate. This is a very well made pinot with fantastic weightless intensity that is currently showcasing exciting secondary complexities. R&M 90

A nice restraint Cali pinot which I like. Strawberry red in colour. Nice fresh red fruits, good balanced. Fruit no way over the top with a decent finish. A very nice pinot - almost a halfway house between a Burg and a fruit driven Cali pinot

This one seemed to age a little more gracefully than my last bottle. Though it's still browned and gained some more tired smells, it's still as balanced as the first time I had it... which is pretty cool.

Slightly more brown/brick in color than my last one. The fruit and acid intensity seems to have given way to more earthy, subdued flavors and more apparent alcohol. Not sure, but I think it may be on its way out.

Ligh ruby color. 3 hours in the decanter toned down what to me was a little overt alcohol taste and left a playful mix of strawberrries and spice. I'm not sure I'd call this big though.
1 bottle left, which I will leave at least a year to see how it develops.

45-min decant in med-base @60F. COLOR- brick-red, murky but light; like free-run strawberry juice. NOSE- light cherries on a floral arrangement; sweet and tender with no hard edges or alc-burn; kind of like a real high-end air-freshener but doesn't get annoying with repeated sniffs. Strawberry scratch-n-sniff also comes to mind; no obvious oak aromas; some cookie-dough. PALATE- really sweet stuff but it's pure fruity sweetness and not sugarfied or artificial. All kinds of berrylicious juice bouncing around back and forth on my tongue with a good 500ms resonance: strawberries, blueberries, light red cherries, and candy variants of the same. There's a fine focus here that's dialed-in dead center starting at the tip and working straight back from there; the fruit concentration is phenomenal; acid spot on. It grows more tangy on the finish but never looses the overriding sweetness; caramel shows. The wine finish lasts for 20s, but then the fruit finish take on much like an experience of the actual thing - just lingers there and you almost want to drink a glass of milk or have some ice-cream. Tannins are ultra-fine here, but their evidence remains by way of the middle grip on this wine. This is really delicious and full, yet it maintains a very light and true Pinot touch. It'll probably gain some mouthfeel silk and elegance with another 1-2 years sideways. Would be a 92+ in my book with a little more complexity, otherwise it's fully legit.

With 4 hours of air. Nose: Strong hint of orange zest, crushed stones, some green peppers, cola and some oak and heat. Palate: Powdered strawberries, smoke/crushed rocks on the attack, sour cherries on the mid-palate followed by some oak and heat. A little flabby in the mid-palate, and could be smoother on the finish. There's some sugary fruit here but the rest is not as smooth as I'd like.

Light, candied, fruity. A nose of earth and fruit; very tangy with a good balance of light tannins on the mid- and back-palate. Overall an OK fruit bomb, somewhat silky, but it was on the weak end of the taste spectrum. It's a pass for me, now, especially compared to how the Sangiacomo previously tasted (althougth it was $12 more).

What a great classic bottle of Sonoma Coast Pinot. Lovely nose of sweet cherry and cola flavors. Interesting notes of toasty oak and crushed black pepper on the nose as well. Little bit of raspberry perfume and old world underbrush too. Palate is a tad hot on the finish, but not disturbing. Good amount of tobacco and toasty oak on the finish. Mid palate is filled with fruit. Nice acidity overall.

Purple/light brown in the glass; this wine is characterized by a spicy fruit core of dark cherry, maple, and brown spices. The finish is of more rich dark fruit, clean earth, and subtle tannins. New producer for me. Enjoyable.

Very interesting and distinctive pinot. The liquid itself was murky, a little like cider. Taste-wise there was not a lot going on, bad or good. But texture - or mouthfeel, as they say - it was so smooth it was hard to tell it was in my mouth. Just an amazing mouthfeel. As I wrote, a very distinctive wine.

Decanted for 3 hours, has continued to improve and gain some complexity over the evening. Interesting and enjoyable nose, brown sugar and baking spices. Warm cherry pie, hints of flat cola & sassafrass flavors, finishes spices and black tea. Good balance, nice acidity and cheek coating tannins. A very different Sonoma Coast pinot that is definately is more Russian River in personalty. Enjoyed this, my fist Sojourn. I'll be keeping them on my radar for the future. I am happy to have a couple of bottles left, I think this will clearly improve with time.

Family Winemakers of California (Pasadena, CA): Notes of dark cherries, toffee, and caramel. Nice fruit concentration and texture. A little soft on the finish, however. 87-88 points.
