Opened this at a small gathering to accompany a smoke leg of lamb dinner. I found this to be ripe and pleasing, if a bit on the simple side. Didn't notice elevated VA as some other notes have stated. This was nicely balanced and focused, with good depth and concentration. The lone french person at the table thought it to be "Californian", but I found it to be elegant and not over-the-top at all.

PnP - perfect cork extracted w Durand. Medium red with slight browning at the edge. Complex savory nose - clearly secondary/tertiary stage but very intriguing. Relatively light in body with complex savory notes perhaps a bit rustic and a very long finish which is not at all driven by tannins or drying out of the fruit. This worked very well with a mushroom linguini. Drink up if you have it.

Very dark colour. Some rather oxidative notes on the nose that blew off to reveal ripe black fruit. Ripe but elegant on the palate. Finishes fresh and well balanced, plenty of acidity to freshen it and nice ripe black fruit. A little disjointed though.

PnP. Perfect cork and fill. Medium dark red; good viscosity in the glass. Spicy nose with some forest floor notes; don't detect the pruniness as in other bottles. Medium weight on the palate with some fine tannins which still dominate the finish. This may further integrate as there is good "sap" in the flavors or the fruit may fade and the tannins take over. The 05 Burgundies continue to evolve glacially. Day 2: definitely more fruit and the tannins are softer. Keep waiting.

A Tasting of Chambolle-Musigny Village Wines from the 2005 Vintage (San Francisco): Deep ruby. Menthol, volatile acidity, blueberry, and some porty overripeness. On the palate, pure fruit with great acidity and soil. Not a typical elegant Bertheau and very hard to read. Some very promising aspects, but real questions about the overall balance.

PnP at a friend's house for Peking duck lunch; based on last bottle should have probably decanted. Medium red, lovely classic nose of plum and perhaps a prune-like note. Excellent acidity and finish and classic balance. This didn't develop as well as the last bottle but it didn't last as long either. Significant sediment so may decant in the future. In its drinking window at age 15 but no rush. The 05 Burgundies are living up to their promise, I think

Decided age 15 was a good time to open first of 6. PnP. Medium ruby. Spice and forest floor but rather thin on the palate with excellent acidity on the finish. After an hour or so this really blossomed with lovely fruit - especially cherries and red berries, and the finish mellowed, while still retaining a Chambolle delicacy. This worked beautifully with a roast chicken. Drinking pretty well but I think it will improve for a few more years.

Dinner with the wine group (Zazie's, San Francisco): Moderate aromatics, red fruit, youthful; palate is light bodied, youthful but light tannins, youthful red fruit, high acid; medium to medium-plus finish. Young, but has the elegance and smooth texture of Chambolle. 91-92

Drinking really well now, which was a surprise. Really nice depth and clarity with well balanced flavors and intensity. Long finish with ample fruit and balanced acidity. This is classic Chambolle.

Clear and young ruby color. Initial nose was tight and not showing much other than flower garden and rose, over time more red cherry fruit, stone and crushed rock came through. Palate was taught and lean, more green strawberry, some wet stones, Rose bush, perfume and lean fruit. All around very nice and drinkable.

Tannins unresolved as of dec 2015, another few years and this would drink nicely if fruit holds. Not great texture or complexity but delicious nontheless.

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Chambolle Musigny (Rodwell House): L-M ruby. Fabulous perfume: floral, red plum, raspberry, spicy new wood. Elegantly structured, ripe, lush with great flavour depth, this wine seemed to sing along with pure fruit flavours: Cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, chocolate and a touch of resin (new wood). Plenty of material with fine grippy tannins, massive length not dissimilar in style to previous wine (same producer?) Very engaging, complex wine which needs a little more time to show its best from classic year (05?) I found myself just liking the 1er cru more than the Charmes even over the time during dinner.

Decanted for a couple of hours and it was ready to drink. Muted fruit, but nice.
