My first bottle, about two months ago, accompanied robust food (BBQ, if memory serves). This time around, I had it with a variety of lighter appetizers, and it held up a lot better. Same licorice and plums - on the nose and on the palate. Same rich texture and exceptional finish, but in this context, it showed a lot better.

Definitely "Claret style", which, in this case, means "Right Bank Claret style". Beautiful color. Somewhat shy nose - plums with hints of licorice. Very smooth and very balanced right now. Surprisingly plush texture and an exceptional finish (did they mis-label a Merlot?). Although my wife correctly identified it as a Zinfandel, I never would have. A very nice wine, but lacking in the wild and wooly characteristics I look for in a Zin.

- Violet color and aromas of prune and licorice anise with a medium body. Polished texture with a medium finish - Last bottle and going to wish I had more. Has lost some of the brashness of it youth and is a much more balanced wine.

Smoky and rich and deep with a strong fruit presence--stronger fruit than the last bottle I opened about a year ago. (I suspect that the last bottle was a bit shut down.) Cedar and licorice too. Nice.

a very smooth and tame zin ... a bit more tame than i like, but way elegant ... it was thinner than i anticipated for '07 but you can't fault this wine ... i had without food on a lazy rainy saturday afternoon

this is a very good zin ... while a big alcohol zin at over 14%, it doesn't have the knock your tongue out of your mouth that others do.
i totally enjoyed it w/ appetizers before dinner ... it had interesting and complex flavor, not just a single big mouthful taste. D-G just has a way with single vineyard bottlings and i love them all.

'07 is tasting very well right now ... the fruit is still fresh and all the rougher edges of youth are rounding ... we had w/ nuts and other snacks before dinner ... a treat. we also drank a bit on the cool side, just a few hours from the cellar. I wanted it that way.
DG just makes some of the most consistent, interesting wines ... this is a winner, and i think better than my last tasting notes

Nose was dominated by oak. Hard to push past it. The palate was well balanced with a soft mouthfeel, but firm tannins. Juicy blackberry and a nice brambly, herby note. The oak influence was minimal on the palate. Wanted to like this more, but the oak on the nose was too offputting.

Deep purple. Ripe cherry and blackberry aromas with hints of camphor. Soft on the palate with plum quickly changing to sweet red fruit. Decent length. Pretty consistent over several days.

Dark ruby red. Soft nose - red and black fruit with a bit of camphor and floral overtones. Soft and supple on the palate. Lots of plums and bright red fruit, but not jammy or a fruit bomb. Tannins are subtle, but very evident on the finish. Zin is not my favorite, but this is good.

had over a 3 day period. !st day, massive heat from the +14% alcohol. Too syrupy for my taste, but expected for a fruit bomb. Day 3 was when it actually could be approached. Had it with venison & various cheeses. The flavor, nose & finish were aggressive. Add 2 points if you like that level of power.

Zinfandel (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee): Delicious. Polishy red fruit on the nose. Sweet autumnal nature. Palate shows the tannin to take it a ways. Very nice and upfront fruit on the palate.

Wonderful aromatics--smoky and deep. Concentration on the palate is intense, and balanced. Plum, smoke, and berries sing out. This is the wine for really nice, herby Italian dishes.

Lacks the depth and richness I look for in a zinfandel.

Kind of thin for what I'm used to for a zin but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Nice.
