Excellent drinking window. Forest floor, smoke, cassis, dark berries and plums on the nose, confirmed on the palate. Very harmonious, with pleasant acidity and soft tannins. Medium to long finish.

This bottle was over the hill. Tawny-brown in colour and oxidised on the nose. Less so on the palate initially, but decanting showed typical oxidised notes. A real shame as it had some body and tannins left, but the wine was already far too advanced. This was our only bottle so cannot tell if this is a general trend or peculiar to our bottle.

About eight years since I had this, and if I had another bottle, I would probably wait a few more years before opening it. This still showed youngish, though very enjoyable. Darker fruit tones and some earthiness. The wine is fairly rich, and I wonder what I may have guessed if I tasted this blind. I may have guessed super Tuscan as I may have thought there were some Cab or Merlot grapes in this. Based on this vintage, I will wait a while before opening any of our 04 and 06 bottles.
What a difference a night makes. I’m sitting here enjoying the last glass tonight with some leftover homemade pasta and venison meat sauce, and this wine is delicious today. Still darker tones, but it seems a lot more vibrant and lively tonight. Smells great, too. A lot of sediment in the bottle.

Beautiful wine. Red with slight bricking. Smokey dark berry fruit on the aromas. Nice volume to the mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Dark berry, cherries and plum, touch of earthiness with dusty tannins. Very smooth and elegant …. no hard edges. Medium acidity. Just well put together.

Gorgeous color and style. Nose somewhat masked by alcohol. After an hour of air, complex fruit and earth combines beautifully upon the palate thru to very fragrant medium long juicy finish. Acid to fruit is on point. At a high point right now no reason to hold any longer although still youthful in its current presentation.

Slightly bricking. Aromas of fresh strawberries and smoke, a whiff of alcohol. On the palate terrifically saturated flavors, suave tannins, spices, black cherry, elegant with fresh acidity. Reminds me of a Paolo Bea Sagrantino. Drink now through 2022.

What a happy surprise the 2005 was today. Lifted and perfumed on the nose with dried cherry, floral tones and autumnal spice. Hints of moist soil and minerality came forward over time. It was silky and rich on the palate yet lifted by vibrant acidity ushering in dark red fruits. Still youthful on the finish, it showed fine tannin, dried cherry, hints of wild herb and cedar.

Dark color for varietal. Dark fruit, still some tannins. Flaccianello is one of my favorites. This is not quite up to the 2001, 2006 and 2007 vintages, but still an exceptional wine

Evolved on the nose with earthy undertones over mostly black fruit and sweet spice. Oak starts to integrate. Supple on palate lacking tension and great complexity perhaps because of the vintage. Very satisfactory overall but lacking these extra points that 2006 had.

Very tight but delicate nose at first. Unfortunately we just popped it spontaneously without decanting. I did sense some reminiscences of the oak barrels in the shape of vanilla and something burnt. Perhaps espresso?! On the palate very pure cherry fruit. Tannins quite firm in a really good way, indicating some cellar potential perhaps? I think this would benefit from a few more years in the cellar. Semi-long finish. My neighbour has this wine, so I shall ring his door in three yrs..... for sure.

A bit young, but wanted to try. Wait at least 3 years for the other one in stock. Medium-dark red-purple. Serious aromas of cut construction lumber (no kidding), along with some oak-vanilla. Some secondary components (e.g., a little anise) come through after a couple of hours in the decanter. Tannins strong, but getting integrated. Real acidity on the back-end. Sort of off-balance overall. Good wine, but off enough to disappoint given the price point.

Opened and decanted a few weeks back at a local restaurant specializing in napolitano pizza. The wine was beautifully balanced, although still primary. The nose was luxurious with notes of tobacco leaf, mint, mocha and slightly burnt coffee. The palate was smooth, mouth coating, and I felt the tannins were really starting to integrate well. This wine will continue to get better, with a few more years in bottle, and I would love to re-taste in 2015. 95 + points

We decanted the wine for three hours. It was very tight initially and only started to open-up after about 1,5 hours in the decanter. The wine was very dark for a Sangiovese. It offered a floral nose (hyacinth and lily), with tobacco leaf, cedar wood and chocolate. On the palate we got cherry, black currant, red currant, tobacco, a hint of black tea and chocolate on the backend. The finish was long. After about three hours of aeration the wine became rounder and smoother, but still kept some rough edges.
We saved a glass and had it two days later (vacuum-pumped) and the wine became even more expressive. Obviously, this wine was built to age and should further improve over the next years. I liked the complex wine. It did, however, remind me of great Châteauneuf-du-Pape rather than Tuscan Sangiovese. Is it worth the price? Probably. 90 points for the time being.

Slow-O for about 4 hours prior to serving with Osso Buco and risotto. Tight as a drum on the nose and palate at first showing little fruit, but plenty of acid and tannin. Over the course of dinner it opened up to reveal blackberry, licorice and pepper. Concentrated, big and so young. Needs plenty of time, but the stuffing is there.

This vintage opened up nicely over the evening. A well balanced wine, with notes of dark cherry and some spice. Tasting note from a blurry memory. This was decanted 4 hours and consumed over 8 hrs during a Flaccianello veritcal that included 95, 98, 99, 01, 03, 04 and 05. My rank of the vintages: 99, 95, 03, 05, 98, 01 and 04.

Holiday in Tuscany, lunch at Panzano. Had a full glass for a mere 6 euros. Very concentrated, dense and refined wine, yet typical sangiovese. Complex and layered, there is dark ripe fruit on the palate that keeps on lingering. Already very drinkable, due to a less tannic vintage. Best non-Brunello sangiovese I ever had. Brought one bottle home to drink this fall in order to save the 2004's in my cellar.

Tasting at NK Yong's (Swettenham Road, Singapore): Excellent. Lovely nose, with warm stewed tomatoes and plum notes lingering amongst coffee and vanilla tones that spoke of the 1.5 years or so this wine spends in French oak. Nice freshness on the palate, keeping the weighty cherry / berry flavours really clean. A little perfumy top-note found its way into the wine on my second pour. Great depth and structure though, very serious wine, with grippy tannins marking its movement towards a very long, very classy, gently lingering finish. It shut down somewhat at the mid-palate after some time, but otherwise a really nice wine. Expressive without ever needing to shout, this will show its breeding and quality more fully with at least another 6 or 7 years in the bottle.
