PnP: Black/Red color, very dense. Very refined and expressive on the nose, charcoal and cherries all over the place. Same on the palate. There's some residual sugar that - for me - is atypical for the vintage. Very dense impression, vertical pressure on the palate. Fine tannins that last to a beautiful long ending...Very positive surprise and extraordinary QPR. Best 1 hour after PnP! 93-94 pts.

This is mature and at/past peak. Decanted at dinner time and had a very nice glass with dinner. Decent fruit and tannins resolved. Had to run out for 2-3 hours and then returned wine to bottle, corked it and put it in the fridge. Drank 2 nights later and wine wasnstill solid but fruit a bit faded. My take is time to get drinking and keep your decant moderate

About 1h opened before drinking. 13% Alc., dusty deep red Bdx. color. On the nose open, black fruits, some plum, basil, precious woods, cinnamon with very good depth. Soft mouthfeel, creamy, milk chocolate, good fruit, primarily black- and piedmont cherries, fully mature, very good balance, animating to drink, depth, complexity, good length. A noble drinking experience, 95 Pts.

Crimson in color. 13% ABV. Stunning nose of red fruits, leather, cigar box and graphite. Warm and supple with perfect acidity. Nice balance between fruit and tannins. Cassis, currants, truffle, plums and earth on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long and silky. Outstanding Bordeaux from an overlooked vintage that thoroughly exceeded my expectations. I wish I had more bottles left. Terrific right now but the structure is here to cellar for another 2-4 years.

Regular dinner group (@ MH): Strange; the bouquet doesn't show much PnP. There is some cassis and bell pepper though. On the palate red and dark berries, good acidity, bell pepper, rustic and earthy, slightly sticky tannin and a bit drying in the finish.

Opened a couple of hours before dinner but no decant or slow ox. Similar to prior note....nice 92-93 point wine but fruit purity and finish could have been a bit sweeter and finer. No rush.

Wine, Browns and my 55th Birthday (My Home): This had been opened the day before and was from a 375 poured off and stored overnight. Purple in color. The nose is nice with dark cherries. Ripe fruit on the palate, but with a bitterness I find in many 01's (I know I am in the minority). Still, I like the wine and it is in a very nice place right now.

Jeff Leve certainly more articulate than me, but he sums it up well. I might have been at least a point more generous on the score and not as convinced on the wine's maturity, although I popped and poured and let it sit in glass for 30 minutes pre dinner. very solid wine with a lot of fruit and still some gentle tannin...very pretty wine and good value at the price in 2007

Smoke, caramel, truffle, black cherry, fresh herbs, chocolate and earthy aromas open to a fully mature St. Emilon. Soft, supple, round and lush, with no hard edges, the finish is pure, sweet cherries with hints of chocolate, mocha and minerality. This was tasted with about 10 minutes of air. A long decanting will not help this wine. While I doubt the wine is going to develop additional complexities from this point forward, there is no hurry to drink it. I'd look to drink it over the next 5-8 years.

Dark red with a slightly carmine rim. A beautiful and luxurious bouquet with cassis, sweet spices, cedar and beautiful oak. On the palate a classical Bordeaux with cassis, graphite, licorice and soft tannin with a good bite. A concentrated wine which is ready now and it can last several years more.

Riesling Tribute: the wines of Fritz Haag @ my place (Netherlands): Wonderfully dusty and classic bouquet of earth, black cherries, lots of new oak, undergrowth, licquorice, flintstone. Masculine and muscular wine. Did not recognize this as a Right bank wine. Guessed Pessac. Great stuff and ready to go. 18+/20

Fennel, juicy plums, mushroom, chocolate and blackberry aromas meshed perfectly with the soft, plush, round textures and the sexy, chocolate covered blackberry finish. This is close to mature and should be consumed before by the time the wine hits 20. While a very successful and delicious Bordeaux wine, I am not sure it's going to make old bones.

Pop and pour... for my friends... who were looking for a modern wine. This is an oak lovers dream. It also has very pretty fruit and a lovely perfumed nose. Very effective and probably delicious for those who tolerate oak better than I.

Licorice, chocolate, black raspberry jam, plum, coffee and hints of vanilla scents make up the perfume. The wine offers plush, sexy, edible textures that and a blast of licorice covered black and red fruits in the finish

"Simple" Midweek Dinner (Chinese New Year Edition) (La Bracceria, Greendale Avenue): A pretty good wine, somewhat straddling left and right banks in its character. Nose was a little tight, with coffee grounds and peppery spice sprinkled over cherry, dusty earth, leather and meaty, tripe-like notes. Palate was rather tight too, with powdery tannins still obvious. The wine had a a well-structured feel about it, with some firmness underneath flavours of plums and spice and some deep cassis tones. Quite an extracted style, but perhaps brought into balance by the lighter freshness of the vintage. Finish was mid-length and spicy, with anise and cardammon tones closing the wine off. Very decent.

Opened up nicely after a couple of hours, so I'd suggest decanting if you can. Semi-sweet cherries, not real ripe, soft oak, finish is significant powdery tannins and cherry.

In quality, tis not that far from the stellar 2000! The exotic perfume pops from the glass with earthy, spicy, soy and back fruit aromas. Lush and concentrated on the palate. The wine finishes with a blast of fresh, ripe dark fruit and opulent textures.

I'm sitting on a few '05s and wanted to see what this wine was about in a vintage that claims far less a premium.
Purple with the faintest amount of bricking at the rim. Awesomely complex nose dominated by a fantastic earth and mineral interplay. The dark fruit plays only a strong supporting role here and is accompanied by leather, camphor, chocolate, and charred toast. Medium body and silky mouthfeel. Tannins do disturb the otherwise graceful balance. I drank this early - I know. Dark berries leads a scrumptious finish of lingering tannin, roasted coffee beans, and chocolate.
All in all, a beautiful right banker, however I believe it is out-shined by the '01 Pavie - albeit 2 very different styles.

Deep ruby, toasty oak on nose, intermingled with dry earth and gravel, with a hint of blood. Much better with a decent faux-fillet, the black cherry and medium density tannins coming forward rather than the oak, firm acidity, leave 2-3 years.

Decanted for one hour, dry, medium-full body with round tannins, deep dark ruby color, pretty bad nose of canned squid on homemade tomato sauce, thankfully very different on the mouth with powerful notes of graphite, charcoal and green pepper. Unbalanced, not ripe, pungent, dark.

Red-ruby in the glass, the nose brings to mind somewhat less complicated fruit, red cherries and black raspberries, cedar, mocha, dried herbs and again underbrush and strong mineral tones. Full-bodied, softly tannic and ripe in the mouth, it seems a bit less balanced and delineated next to the 2000. I am no expert but suspect that, at least in part, this is an issue of differences in acidity. The extracted flavor and pleasant tannin continue through the finish.
