decanted 2 hrs. Lots of funk, very old school Cayuse here. An half or so of air mellowed this somewhat, allowing a mature Impulsivo to emerge. Cured meats with green olives, good mineral underpinning, excellent high quality showing.

Dark and brooding. Still pretty tight – also then comes across as a bit thin. Not as complex or thick as some of the syrahs. Fine but not amazing at the moment

Took to a tasting. Had some of the typical sanguine and olive of Cayuse wines. Didn't seem to as complex as other wines, but that may come with age. Plus fruit and velvet mouthfeel was present and oak was present but not overly noted

Double Blind Tasting w/ DC Crew (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): First time tasting Cayuse Tempranillo, and I’m pretty impressed. Juicy black cherries, smoke and tobacco on the nose. Firm tannins, chewy and rich and bold, black fruits abound. Bold but vibrant with smoke, charcoal, hints of olive and tobacco. Seems like one to hold for three to five years because it has a lot of guts for the cellar and complexity to unravel.

Wonderful Cayuse nose with layers of dark fruit, minerality, and earthy notes that culminate in a silky smooth finish, with more floral notes than I remember from the prior bottle.
Three flights of awesome (My house): Forrest berries, cherries, black and green olives, very elegant with lots of terroir and minerals. Absolute classical Cayuse. NICE!

Awesome delicious wine. Still young, but drinking really well. Dark in colour, lovely meaty, sweaty. bacon and smoke laced blackberry fruit. Really complex. Full bodied, ripe sweet, same sweaty blackberry fruit, smokey, bacon and delicious milk chocolate note on the finish. This is a great wine.

This was fabulous. Better without food, there are many levels of goodness here. As others have stated, there is an amalgam of flavors that are precisely balanced ranging from bloody meat to a gentle brine that reminds me of the highlands. Crazy shit.

Every time I drink I up the score-community maybe right and I should have left alone for another 4 years! Blood, barnyard, funk-yumm. Tight at first but 30 minutes in was rocking. I don't drink enough Temp to gauge typicity but I liked this bad bod. Not shy and to the right of medium body but not fat in any way. Next day under vacuvin on counter it had dissipated quite a bit and was a hollow shell of last night.
Wish I had more but hey, better to have loved and lost.....

Wonderfully balanced wine. Tasted along with the 06 God Only Knows. This was more elegant, restrained, with lots of depth. Unfortunately no detailed tasting notes -- but this was the favorite over the GOK -- though I think the latter will be amazing in a few years. The Impulsivo is more approachable (and still a year younger) -- but also curious to see this in a few years -- there is an elegance here that will be interesting to see how it develops.

Upped my rating from first bottle. I am always amazed with Cayuse that despite the intense bloddy meat and savory herbs on the nose the wine is medium bodied and full of fruit with absolutely no jammy overtones. A really nice bottle.

Intense nose, interesting, with sweaty, meaty, somewhat herbal red cherry fruit. Sweet raspberry, cherry fruit with hint of dark fig and molasses. Same herbal note on finish as well. Complex and interesting wine.

Sat in the decanter for an hour while the lamb chops came to room temp and sizzled on the Traeger. Intoxicating nose of dark cherries, tobacco, meat juice, smoke, and green herbs. Paired perfectly with the lamb. Palate full of blood, smoke, cherries, blueberries, herbs, soy, minerals, and veggies. Did not notice any oak, which is a good thing. Well balanced with a great mouthfeel. Didn't change one bit over the 2 hours it took to consume. If I had a bunch I wouldn't hesitate to open another soon but my last 07 will sleep...interested to see what this turns into with some age.

Delicious, soft blueberry fruit with earthy, soily, slightly floral flavors, very good structure, lots of Walla Walla funk, slightly short finish, wine seems to lack the depth, complexity, and richness of a Cayuse Syrah

Needed every minute of the three hour decant to open up and show itself. Still a baby but lots of real dark fruit, spice, funk and a slight olive and herbal component on the end.

This bottle was double decanted about an hour before serving. There is no question this is a well made wine and it was enjoyable. However, I just didn't consider it that great, especially for the price. I am not sure I will spend this much on a WA Tempranillo again. There was no specific fault to this wine. It just didn't seem that distinguished. I will try another of my bottles and see if I change my mind.

Showing well though took a few hours in the decanter to open up. Typical Cayuse profile: high density, extracted, intensely flavored wine that is both low in acid yet maintains to be light on its feet. Dark smoky fruits are complicated by saline and raw meat flavors, a discreet touch of new wood adds balance and tone, long in the finish, all in all a wonderful WA Tempranillo.

Huge funky, earthy nose with black and blue fruits. The palate was completely dominated with black and blue fruits, and that classic minerally blood/iron quality I have always picked up on Cayuse bottlings. Was enjoyed far more than I expected, and the fruit really overpowered that Cayuse funkyness.

Opened 2 hours prior to dinner. Really powerful and impressive. Slight funk on the nose typical of Cayuse but not overbearing. Smoky black fruit with dried herbs on the nose. Big full chewy mouth. Nicely balanced and impressive in how well it went with the lamb we had without overpowering. Really a pleasure to drink right now.

Very well made wine. No way anyone would pick this as Tempranillo. Has some of the typical Cayuse Funk on the nose, which I absolutely love! Big fruit, but not overly extracted. Pretty well balanced at this time. Tannins are present & would lead to 3-5 more years of cellar time. Had a "green" edge to the flavor profile, which is evident in other Cayuse wines. Great experience tasting this, but there is no comparison to Spanish Tempranillo in my opinion. Completely different wines. But, there is no question that I will enjoy every minute of my last 2 bottles of the '07's in time.

Very solidly made wine that disappoints in terms of drinking enjoyment. Big funky nose (typical cayuse). Good mouthfeel. Very clean and pure. Just not a very fun wine to drink. Lacking beautiful fruit and enjoyable tertiary flavors. true to spanish style. Some bitterness on the back of the palate. Long finish. Decanted. Tasted identically the next morning.

Terrific after double decanting and waiting an hour for my first heavenly sip. Seamless and elegant on the finish with terrific fruit. Like many Cayuse wines the mouthfeel is phenomenal. It is like dragging your tongue through the fruit bowl with a little dirt thrown in. Great stuff and should be fun to see how it matures. I didn't think it was "big" like so many of their Syrahs.

Our first go at the Impulsivo. Decanted for several hours before trying and even that wasn't long enough. The nose was wonderful but the flavors on the palate were reticent. Left some in the decanter over night and in the morning the flavors were really starting to shine through. This appears to have all the goods of an outstanding/extraordinary wine but still needs some more time.

Decanted for an hour...and boy did it need that hour to strut its stuff. Fairly closed at first so we decided to leave it in the decanter for an hour with aggressive swirling about every ten minutes. When it finally decided to reveal itself, boy did it ever in a hurry (kind of like when you get home from a date and you are sitting on the couch chatting with your fine lady, you excuse yourself to the bathroom, return and find her laid out in all her glory on the couch--from zero to shablam in about 30 seconds!). A pleasantly restrained funky nose gave way to ripe fruit, dark chocolate goodness, and noticeable woodsmoke. Much more on the elegant side than the primal side. More ripe fruit on the palate, specifically blackberries and plums, interwoven nicely with polished tannins and dare I say, judicious oak. All the components seemed to be very well harmonized. Much more lush and foward than the carnivorous and savory 06. This wine was a lithe, sexy, sultry, seamless beauty. 95 pts.
