Old 2011 notes. Complex for malbec with lasting finish, maybe not as good a Cueva Malbec. My price at $15 was high compared to community. Would be a definite repeat at $12.

Drank side by side with a 2011. This wine was similar in color to the deep purple of 2011, with a little browning out around the edges that I would attribute to age. The wine had a nice mellowed nose of berries and dark fruit. On the palate the tannins were much less harsh than the 2011, and the wine still kept the fruit forward. That being said I would say that this wine does not have much left in the way of aging; I would recommend drinking soon. Hopefully, this is where the 2011 is heading after a few years of age. Great QPR.

Beautiful glowing ruby color with a very attractive sweet caramel nose hinting at fig, cedar, clove and berries. On the palette it comes across very smooth. It's quite acidic but not overly so. Plenty of forward fruit. Long, dry, tart blackberry finish. Overall a very nice wine! No major complaints but I'm not going to go so far as a 90 pt. score. Happy to pay the $9 price tag though!

Nose is mostly red fruits with a touch of plum & blueberry, a little peppercorn, and some cedar tones. The palate comes in with just medium weight, some clear cedar tones, a little spice, and a touch of fruit. Finishes a bit acidic with red & dark fruit, some spice, and a little smoked cedar tone.
Not as much body as I'd like, but went acceptably with food and is certainly drinkable...hard to complain about barely being a 'good' wine at the given price point.

Very nice purple-ruby color. Although tight - nice meaty, dark fruit, medicinal nose. Excellent balance in a clean fruit forward style with beautifully smooth tannins. Loaded with luscious dark red forest fruits (blueberry, boysenberry) with touches of grass and oak. Good value at $10.

Very solid QPR, one of the most enjoyable sub-$10 wines I've had in a long time. A bit tight and astringent on the nose at first, it opened up into a jumble of dark fruit. The flavor was nice, though the wine is lacking in heft. Dark plums, sour cherry, and some balanced tannins on the palate. A very respectable offering, and a wine that I'd be happy to bring to a not-too-close friend's for a get together.

This wine needs to breathe before showing its best. Tight nose but a little bit of sour cherry and copper penny. On the palate, almost Syrah-like roasted meat character with some tart cherry. On the finish there are some bitter chocolate tannins which is a bit harsh but not too bad. All in all, a pretty nice wine for $8. It's not overoaked which is all too common in wines in this price range and there is some pretty good fruit. Very good QPR. Decant recommended.

Plum and oak on the nose. Blueberry, cherry up front with plum and a light vanilla on the mid-palate. Oak finish. The fruit is very high quality at this price but it is too weak on the finish to score higher than 88. Good value.

Flat and uninteresting nose combined with equally flat and unconvincing palate. Really, a table wine more than anything, but at 9 bucks a bottle, i can't be so displeased. Still, i don't get the 90 from wine advocate, and i don't get any of the gobs of flavor promised on the nose or palette. Very flat and uneven. Tannic and short finish.

The Wine Advocate's 90 rating for this wine sounded too good to be true, and although the wine didn't exactly live up to that rating it is very good for the price. The nose is extremely shy, but the flavors are quite bountiful, exhibiting dark fruit, smoked meat, mincemeat and baking spices, with a well integrted overlay of toasty oak. The wine is full-bodied and well-balanced, with acidity and minerality in sharp focus. The finish is rather abrupt, though, leaving the slightest disappointment at the end. Overall, a good value and recommended.

$11 price tag is nice. I am not in love with this wine - there are many other Malbecs that are not as dark and flat as this wine, though this is not bad by any stretch. It is just lost in a field of much better juice from Argentina.

I opened this one last week, and am just uploading my info now. I thought this was a pretty good wine, not spectacular. Don't know if I'd go out of my way to buy again. I've never had a Malbec before, nor a South American wine, and was eager to try both. I bought this cheap at Costco and figured it was worth a try. I was curious, and I liked the label. No ratings listed in the store.
I found it a nice, earthy wine. It was full-flavored and bodied. Not too dry. Plummy, sour cherry, dark chocolate. Nice nose, similar aromas to taste. Not bad for the price.

Pours a nice bright concentrated red/purple. Nose is slightly aromatic, displaying ripe red fruit and a tiny bit of smoke. On the palate, this is a rich, juicy, and satisfying wine. Gobs of red fruit with a nice balanced acidity.

We were going to have this with a chimichurri beef thingy, but that fell through after decanting the wine, so we had it with pizza and it was fine. Poured nice and dark ... blueberries(?) or some other dark fruit on the nose and palate. Great QPR!

RUSSK Full bodied, nice balance between fruit and tannin and decent nose (both sometimes absent in cheap Malbec). I would give it a 88. Only complaints: slight bitterness and a bit hot (14%alc). Would buy again for $10.

Nose of brambles and plums with hint of spice. Very dark black/garnet in color. Very light on the tongue, with flavors of cedar, spice box, blackberry, and hint of cola. Well balanced, pretty good for the price, should go nicely with BBQ ribs and grilled corn.

Upgrading to 89 from 87. Opened Friday night and it was much the same as an earlier bottle: Ripe, forward, sweet, but very tasty. Two nights later under Vacuvin and this is still in great shape but showing far more finesse and subtlety. Much more to my liking. Seems absurd to suggest decanting a $8 bottle of malbec, but this would benefit from aeration right now.

Great berry filled nose. Really rich and ripe, almost like a zin, but reasonably balanced and not really hot at all. Just loads of fruit to this, with some creamy oak nuances and a touch of liqueur. I find most well-scored cheap Malbec to be a bit too sweet for me, and this is no exception. But, sheesh, what do you want for sub $8 (Costco)? Great value. 87.

Nose of candied dark plummy fruit with a hint of glycerin in background. Very smooth tannins with velvety mouthfeel. Dark raspberries and cherries with a hint of carmel and vanilla on the finish. Very good balance for such an inexpensive wine. Great QPR, I'll be buying more!

Decanted 1.5 hours. Dark inky purple color. Huge Dark cherry licorice and plum on the nose. A bit overly jammy/candy smell.
Taste is still a bit tight compared to the smell. Some raspberry also coming through, but a little hot still. Eventually smooths out and I get plum and red currant coming through.
Still a little young and frisky, but tons of fruit coming through after a couple hours of decanting. Might be a little too fruit bomb for some folks. Not too food friendly, did not quite mesh with my Tri Tip with garlic, Brazilian Salt, Herbs de Provence, pepper, and lime. More of a cocktail wine. Rich Tempranillo or Cab would have worked better. Two bottles consumed.

Color: Inky (shades of pink) Nose: Chocolate, light oak Palate: Medium-to-heavy body, light acidity, tannins are strong. finish is fairly long and a little spicy. Other flavors include plum, dark fruits. This is a good wine, but I didn't have a chance to decant it and this wine is very very young.

All kinds of vibrant dark fruits + some floral qualities on the nose. Also something that smells almost salty to me--not quite that, but not sure how to describe it. Hint of spice, some crushed dried flowers, but mostly just dark purple & blue fruit all over the palate. Little sweet wood there. Little smoke, slight coffee bean, dark fruit flavors on the finish. Nice tannins & a finish with good acid & decent flavors--good bottle, 85-86

Nose and palate were a little closed/tight at the outset. 3 hours later, I get spiced berries with hints of caramel, vanilla, and white chocolate on the nose. Attack is quite fruited and shows hints of black/blueberries, followed by slightly harsh tannins. Finish is medium in length. Nice wine for the money.

Disappointing. Tight nose 1st day when we popped & poured. On the second day aromas became barnyard-y in an uninviting way, & medicinal, the latter something like old cough drops and over-the-hill zinfandel 'port', and with a curious whiff of dry cocoa. Interesting but not engaging. Palate was much more average & had little to recommend. A fair amount of grip but not enough evident fruit. Some [unripe] plum, & vinegary assessence, tannins were not enjoyable, & no complexity anywhere. The palate & finish do not bode well for improvement with aging. If you are looking for an inexpensive, "drink-now" Malbec you can do better than this one.

A perfectly fine summer barbeque quaffer, but not the depth or richness I was expecting. Performs very well for its price, but that is about all. Easily outclassed by wines served later in the evening.

Good, solid, inexpensive Malbec, with lots of fruit and typical blackberry flavors.

Dark jammy fruit with licorice and vanilla. A bit of a sweet note and earth (smoke). Medium finish. Good QPR, but not my favorite style.

This bottle must have had a cork leak becuase the wine was not drinkable and smell was awful. Others have reported very good ratings, but I will not try again.

Very disappointed in smell and taste, had to pour it down the drain. It was recommended by a wine store.

1.5 liters, I have opened 2 bottles, and both were corked -2008 maipe-, has anyone else had this problem?
****UPDATE****
The entire shipment of 2008 Miape Malbec 1.5l's was corked, returning to vender, The vender is crediting all accounts who purchased the wine and sending back to the winery.

Color: Inky (shades of pink)
Nose: Chocolate, light oak
Palate: Medium-to-heavy body, light acidity, tannins are strong. finish is fairly long and a little spicy. Other flavors include plum, dark fruits.
This is a good wine, but I didn't have a chance to decant it and this wine is very very young.

Big, rich fruit. Toasty oak. Big and rich. Easy drinking. Maybe a little less structure then the more expensive Altos Las Hormigas, but pretty much the same thing. Nice wine for the money.

Color: very dark; inky like a Petite Sirah. Nose: blueberry, red rose, light smoke, pepper; very tight at first, but after 30 min, opens up. Mouth: very tight at first taste; softens a little. Mouthfeel: light tannins but acidic, and a bit harsh; dar$10]k ried berries. Great for the price range [~$10]. Will buy more.

Good wine. Initial nose of barnyard blew off with time to reveal a decent wine with ripe dark fruit and creamy oak flavors. More fruit forward the second day and also more enjoyable. On the fence regarding whether I'd buy again.

Tight nose - faint plum and black cherry. Smoke and toasty oak in the mouth with weak fruit. Opened up to more candied fruit flavors. Bitter, unpleasant tannins. Pass
