Lunch: This pours medium ruby, a touch cloudy, with some flecks of pink and a watery rim. The nose on opening is dominated my menthol, but after about an hour unfurls to show fresh cherry, grapefruit rind, rose petals, a whisp of ginger, dry dusty soil, sandalwood, fresh thyme, a touch of integrating oak, and some of that menthol still lingering. The palate is also lovely with cherry and grapefruit dominating the texture turning to medium minus tannin and medium acid and then a long finish that fans out nicely revealing much of the complexity to come with further bottle age. All in all this is lovely and elegant stuff. It did need some air to really show what it had and while this early peak was pleasurable I think there is a long life ahead with much more positive development to be had. We only followed this for about two hours and I can't help but feel we might have gotten more aromatic complexity with even more air. A taster commented that this showing was Burgundy meets New Zealand which I agree with. Given the prices of these wines now I have to say this is poor QPR, but it's still fun and important to try wines from the tippy top producer.

Classic and beautiful... despite people's low impression of the vintage, and this being the lowest (at the time) offering from DRC, this was delicious.
I don't have DRC too often, but when I do it's always a mind blowing or close to mind blowing experience...the perfume is intoxicating ...nose of vosne spice, sweet red currants and cherry...same flavors as the nose dance a classy dance across my palate...silky waves of perfectly aged fruit.

Prefect color, light but yet vibrant in its depth. A perfumed nose of delicate spice, raspberry and sweet red cherry, it's hard to keep your nose away. The wine is elegant on the palate, the velvet texture makes this wine so seductive. Echezeaux in my opinion is one of the best Burgundy has to offer.

Drank with filet pur of dear. No decanting. Very pure nose of delcicate red fruits with some clear green stem notes coming through. Impressive how this "greeness" just belongs there. It does not bother at all. Very refined palate, just so elegant and feminine as you'd expect from an Echezeaux. Nobody does it better than Aubert :-)

This is just wonderful. Explosive and seducing nose of spices, fresh and intense raspberries, black tea and rose petals. Partially developed and in perfect shape. The palate is otherworldly. Seamless stream of velvet power running over my tongue. Tons of pinot fruit paired with rosehip and tea. Absolutely stunning.

Great showing - this was slow-oxed for a couple of hours, and it's drinking beautifully. The aromatics are absolutely spectacular - an array of intense spiciness with some high toned floral and stemmy notes, and a core of rich dark berried fruit beneath with more savoury earthy notes emerging with air. Powerful, yet remarkably elegant and graceful on the palate, with a finish that resonates a while.

Again, liked this better than its 00 Grands counterpart. Well integrated at this point and pleasurable drinking. Just a tad thinner than the better vintages.

Served blind, it came across as very Vosne albeit a more dark and dense version owing to its youth. This will probably reach the great heights of the best vintages of DRC Ech in time. Give this at least another 5 years, and it will probably benefit from 10 or more. Lot of material here, and great fruit, just a bit dense and unyielding on tonight's pop and pour.

A completely surprise and serendipitous addition to a night of fine burgundy. Beguiling Vosne spice with red fruit. It then opened up in a kaleidoscope of bergamot, dried orange peel and fireworks. Captivating and a fine ending to a wonderful evening.

DRC 2000 Echezeaux is the more austere and serious of the pair. Red fruits, tea, mushroom, dried flowers. Serious palate, mid weight but very aligned and focused. Completely balanced but clearly with a lot of years ahead of it.

CENA BORGOGNA GATTO NERO (RISTORANTE GATTO NERO TORINO): Degustato alla cieca. Naso inconfondibilmente DRC, spezie pungenti, balsamiche, intenso e concentrato. 94-96

The first bottle was beautiful, in a perfect place right now. The nose was bright and punchy with notes of sandalwood, dried flowers, red fruits and mint. It was mid-weight in the mouth and fine and lacy with good detail. The second bottle was similar but just a tad sweeter in the mouth without quite the detail of the first bottle.

Really nice perfumed nose with some earthy notes. On the palate, very focused powerful but elegant fruit. Well balanced. Tasted before dinner without food and with salmon and brussels sprouts at dinner. Enjoyed it immensely both ways. My first taste of any DRC and I was impressed despite high expectations.

La Paulee 2.0 S.F.: He come's the DRC flight(ech,rsv,tache)....amazing nose's! The ech drinking extremely well...slightly better than the rsv....deep exotic spice, berry liqueur fruit, great balance, smooth feel, dusty white pepper spice kick finish.

Beautiful nose that moves around oriental spice to fossilized earth. Palate not quite as profound, warm fruit/dark cherry with some earth and green wood. Either this is too young or JScott is spot on (really nice pinot, but not really clear this will turn to be profound). All that said, definitely one of the most unusual pinots I have tasted so far, I suppose this is what you are paying for in DRC?

Asleep for about 30 minutes, began to open to show a dark cherry, earth and floral nose with a touch of spice. Not profound, and may never be, but certainly a pretty pinot. Tough QPR of course.

Fabolous nose, but the taste is the most impressive. Exploding in the mouth with lots of red fruit. Deep. The aftertaste goes on and on and on. Fabolous wine, which is clearly ready now.

Better than 1993...I prefer....Ruby colour with many scents...mild strawbeery, roses, wood, clean and deep in the beginning. Medium-bodied, a very little bit low in acidity. Very good and delicious in the mouth with a nice...smooth abnormal aftertaste. That's charming!! At 2 hours, getting more heavier but not too much....Impressed.
The poor vintage tells me the truth about the wine-maker....for me, it's really nice to try.

I wonder how wine experts like Tanzer can rate this wine as 89p - to me its a beauty singing like a beautiful lady!!!!!!!!! 4hours decanted and its so pure pinot - beautiful floral nose and fantastic taste - still tannins but the fruits cover that easily - so gentle and balanced - 94p. I wish i had more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It got more upside potential.

Rich floral nose of red currant and black raspberry infused with deep seated spice note brought out by the oak. In the mouth, sappy and mouth coating, almost creamy, with very soft tannins that spread from back to front on the palate. This wine seemed to lose a bit of energy with time in glass, maybe due to warming up too much, but the red-violet flower perfume is intoxicating while it lasts.
