A private pre-Christmas Lunch with Friends: Fifth bottle from a half case purchased at the estate in 2010. On cracking form today. Wonderfully playful and layered fruit, floral and fragrant, silky texture, perfect weight, very elegant and harmonious, fresh and minerally but with a very attractive natural sweetness, excellent spicy length. At peak, will go on.

Brought this to a friend's birthday dinner in NY along with a magnum of '82 Dunn Howell Mountain. We meant to open this in the hotel room beforehand, but didn't end up having the time, so only popped the cork right before pouring. Fortunately, this wine was up to every challenge thrown at it. The nose was powerful and enchanting, leaping up to grab and shake your senses. Fruit was bright and concentrated, still showing plenty of vigor, but moving into real maturity. No longer shimmering and electric, those bright stubborn elements that you associate with young trocken were integrated structurally, aromatically and in the mouth. Plenty of peach and pear, fresh apple, but really about the minerality. Some dark honey notes in the back, but no discernable sweetness, just great balance. A wine where you reap as much joy from the nose as the palate. I kept returning to this over the evening, and found it showed some additional development, but mostly it was fully present right from the start. An exciting bottle that has rewarded our patience.

Fourth bottle from a half case purchased at the estate in 2010. Mature, waxy nose opens up beautifully with air; wonderful minerally energy on the fresh and youthful palate, typical Nahe fruitsalad with engaging bitters, clean and precise; very good length. On its plateau of maturity, but with time in hand - the bright 2008-acidity will keep this going for quite a while.

blind, unknown side by side to the not blind Halenberg 2008 In this case I preferred the Frühlingsplätzchen. A touch fresher and cleaner in the late palate and not so "sweet" in the end. Nice fruits as passionfruit, pineapple and Lemon cest. At his Peak. For the next 5-7 years. 93-94

Pristine bottle, purchased on release directly from the estate. I don't think I could say it better than Seth Rosenberg in his concise and exact note from 21 February 2014. Furthermore I detect a hint of fir on the nose; slender and elegant 2008-style on the palate, less forward and opulent than usual for this vineyard, with some waxiness.

I didn't get much of a note on the fruit on the nose, but there is a crushed chalk and stone aspect, very dusty. Crisp clean, mineral, peach, apple. Tart mineral and lime finish. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

Rieslingfeier 2014 - BYOB Main event (Rouge Tomate, NYC): The fruit here's rather ripe, veering towards the tropical end of the spectrum with some pineapple notes among fresh citrus and pear flavours, but there's also incredible purity and finesse to the flavours, a vivid stony mineral base beneath and a bright acid spine keeping it very bright and precise. It's dry but never austere, and there's a very polished, graceful palate presence. Fantastic GG.

Still incredibly youthful, although this is now showing very well.
Strong aromatics on the nose of white peach, stonefruits, citrus fruits, minerals and flowers. Delicious on the palate as the fruit has come forward, balancing the huge acidity nicely. Massive length

Yummy! This is delicious... Powerful at its young age, but softens a little as it gets air. Full bodied with unusual but incredible nuances of vanilla in the finish. Absolutely mind blowing for the price. Wowzers...

I like consistency and the two examples I have drunk have been nothing if not that. This wine is electric. It has a beautiful light gold metallic color. And a gorgeous nose of spicy riesling grapes, and a light dusty rock/mineral component, that not only wraps, but intertwines with the fruit. Bright, juicy, rich, and full- I think I wrote the word bright three times in my note. The wine is so easy to drink right now, but the minerality and acid tell me of a long life, where the wine will gain in complexity. This wine is in my sweet spot zone.

An amazing wine with a nose hinting at grapefruit and strong musky dripping riesling fruit and wafting mineral notes. In the mouth there is a little late season Duncan grapefruit, with all of its tart ripe sweetness and slight spiciness, this wine is pure and dry and loaded with a balanced mineral and white fruit full body-ness. Utterly compelling. I pretty much will drink this bottle in its entirety! Yum!

Ein sehr schönes GG! Toll apfelfruchtig, aber auch mit guter Mineralität. Schöne, gut eingebundene Säure. Jetzt auf den Punkt, aber ohne Eile!

Tasted blind. Similar to the Halenberg but with slightly more fruit and a little more approachable - some flint, huge acidity.
