The wine is yet primary, with only the earliest integration of rich dark fruit with it's other components. It presents with profound velvety black fruited richness & subtle aromas of ground carob. Perfectly balanced.. it may benefit from several hours decant but I'm inclined to wait several years to drink another.

Château Cheval Blanc, one of the Premier Grand Cru Classé A wineries in Bordeaux collaborated with Terrazas de los Andes after noticing that the vineyards there were similar to those in St. Emilion where Château Cheval Blanc is located.
This Bordeaux-style blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot displays notes of dark fruit, chocolate and mineral, with firm tannins and a long finish. It's a complex and elegant wine that can be aged for a few more years, but can also be enjoyed now with a good cut of red meat. Overall, it's a great representation of the style the estate aims to portray, both in terms of boldness and finesse.

Drank with a filet at Gallaghers Steakhouse in NYC. Beautiful wine in its prime drinking window. Dark fruit. Spice. Hint of cranberry on the nose. Perfectly melded tannins. Long finish. Alcohol integrated well. And my gosh so good with the steak. Drink now or hold in proper conditions for another 2 to 3 years.

Decanted over 2 hours. On the nose you really get the black fruits, vanilla and the oak. Not as much on the palate. As the wine decanted the black fruits and vanilla gave way to more earthy notes. It certainly fits the Bordeaux style with new world fruit.

First night showing clear Bordeaux influences: somewhat feminine, smooth, not particularly fruity, but nice acidity with cedar, shoe leather some redcurrant. Second night was showing a brawnier side, with more malbec notes and some blackberries and smoke, with tannins more present.

Big wine with fine tannins and very smooth with a decent finish. Lots of tar, leather and dark fruits, a little mushroom maybe. A touch too much alcohol for me but that might integrate in time. The rest of the case will stay in the cellar for another few years before trying again. Has a good few years ahead of it.

Into decanter for 30 minutes, then 30 more in glass before starting. Consumed over 3 hours afterward. Fair amount of sediment in the bottle. Started off with lots of smokey char, earth, and old leather on the nose, and from there just kept on changing and evolved into something completely different by the end. Well balanced palate with super polished tannins, but still enough to provide backbone. Enjoyable and plenty interesting.

Dark red with deep ruby highlights. Delicious nose of blackberries and strawberries with black pepper. Strong tannins and a stronger feeling by of tightness - this wine needs at least another three years to loosen up. Blueberries on the front palate quickly transition to blackberry bramble, and a faint but clear notes of rose petals and smoke; the smoke/meat char note really emerges in the finish, which is tasty and lasts forever. This would be a fantastic wine with an Argentine asado. Score based on how interesting it is and on future hopes as much as how it tastes now.

Heat damage. Hard to tell, but obvious when compared side by side with a good bottle. :( The lesson from this set of comparisons of known heat damaged bottles to others is that the wine appears flat and lifeless, but not obviously damaged unless you already know the wine. Couldn't wait for another. Dark but not dense. Nose promising a fruit bomb. Not so. The entry is sweet and blackfruit led but the development of the savoury, licorice, cocoa, wood, a touch of mint and pencil nib ensures a rounded mouthful with supportive acidity and fine tannins which encourage another mouthful. Good balance between power and nuance in youth which I find rare for this blend. This is good value for the quality and enjoyment.

This requires significant time in a decanter. I gave it two hours. Inky black and deep garnet at the rim. Beautiful long legs, just like my wife's. Cheval Blanc and D'Yquem dinner with Pierre Lurton and Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Obviously very different than Cheval Blanc. Big scale nose displaying acidic black fruits, pine, tar, bitter chocolate, graphite and scorched earth. Excellent concentration, silky ripe black fruits driven palate impression, mineral, tar and ash, piercing acidity and nicely integrated tannins. It may sound like an oxymoron but it tasted like a nicely aged Malbec.

The old world influence definitely comes across in the nose. It could easily be mistaken for left bank Bordeaux. Black fruits, charcoal, earth, new leather, tobacco. Full-bodied with light tannins on the medium finish. Very little evolution throughout the night. Nice Malbec Cabernet Sav blend. 3rd bottle. Some of these have a slight brett taint.

A very fine wine. The bouquet is straight construction site, concrete, asphalt, sawdust, welded metals, and much more. The palate gives this away as New Worldish and Malbec heavy, which immediately puts the mind to Argentina; still, it is one of the three best Malbec blends I've had. It features great structure and pleasant fruit. The construction site nose transitions to a very nice terroir component which suggests a collaboration with an Old World producer.
I thought the assemblage could have benefitted from a greater proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, or perhaps Merlot, but I think that about almost all Malbec blends from Argentina. It was consumed beside a 2008 Fidelitas Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon which is a better wine, but this managed to hold its own. The QPR is just ok. Wines of equal quality can be had for less than half the price of this one.

Excellent marriage of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Color: dark red core with velvety ruby edges
Nose: flowers, violets, kirsch, some sweet oak, but not too much, crushed rocks, and tobacco
Palate: firm tannins, almost a bit too drying so a few more years should mellow those out but don't wait too long as the fruit could fade. Iron and earth, tobacco, cherry and some plum notes peak in and out. Long finish, great wine.

Tasted non blind at a retail tasting. Tried from two bottles since I thought the first bottle was off. It wasn't off that far.
Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of aspirin, plums and a hint of barnyard. Flavors of berries, tangy cherries and red raspberries. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold.

South America vs. North America (Farpointe Cellar): Loads of black fruit on the nose, along with crushed rock, roasted meat, and coffee bean. There's also a perfume smell towards the end. Dark purple hue in color. Minimal sediment in the bottle with a dark, stained cork. The nose is pleasant with smells of blackberry, blue berry and licorice. Easy drinking with a weaker midpalate and finish, perhaps due to its younger age... This is a Malbec, Cab, Merlot blend in that respective order. Alone this wine may disappoint, but it actually pairs very well with food. I enjoyed this bottle at an Argentinian steak house with a filet minon.

Tasty blackberry and coffee notes on the nose and a nice mix of red fruit and a touch of licorice on the palate. Slightly edgy on the finish. Overall a nice complex little Malbec / Cab blend. Usually this retails for $80, which I think is far too much. I got this one for a little over half that price and that seems more in line with where it should be.

Decanted 2 hrs. Served the following 3. Wondeful aromatics of blue and black fruit, witth smoke, spice, flowers, and some barnyard. Elegant medium bodied palate with a medium plus finish. Improved slightly throughout the evening. Drinks great now and should hold up well for 5 yrs.

Blueberries, blackberries, spice, notes of expresso and chocolate. The tannins are very fine and round. Long sweet finish.

Saturdays at One - Volume 52: WIML88+?

Earthy and meaty on the palate, with nice cherry and raspberry on the mid-palate, and minerals and coffee at the end.

Lovely sweet fragrances of vanilla, chocolate, caramel; similarly sweet palate, with red berries and vanilla and oak. Much better than the previous bottle.

Popped and poured. Some menthol, chocolate and mocha on the nose. Mouth is dominated by wood. Probably needs some more time in the cellar, and then some proper decantation, to do it justice.

Still way to young. The malbec comes through with bright red fruit, but this needs years more in the bottle.
