Early Oct 2022: deep red purple color; surprisingly restrained nose of herbs and flowers sprinkled with red berry aroma; like a liquid cherry chocolate cake on the palate accompanied by a balanced fruity acidity and strong mild tannins; medium/full body. 90-91/100

Still have four of these bboys in the cellar and was reading notes that it might be time to drink up so started to worry and fired up the grill to slow cook a picanha in coffee cocoa rub. Damn that was a nice combo. This wine is far from deceased but far more approachable than a few years back. leather and mocha are dominant, wet forest floor, figs, a bit animal. Fruits still present but in a more modest way. Creamy texture with enough freshness to keep it lively. Intense wine with a good complexity. I really enjoyed it!

Langer Abgang.

Cata Histórica Puntido y Victorino con Marcos Eguren (Bodega Santa Cecilia - Madrid): A beautiful expression of Toro. Memories of sponge cakes with vanilla on the nose. Intensely fruity. Elegant and fine. On the palate it is very smooth and well balanced, controlled acidity, existing yet polished tannins and contained length. There is no great structure that is compensated with minerality. Elegant and fruity wine.
Una bonita expresión de Toro. Recuerdos a bizcochos con vainilla en nariz. Intensamente afrutado. Elegante y fino. Elegante y frutal.

Popped 1 hour before first pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, black fruit - anise and black berry, shoe leather, and black olives. Palate: Full bodied, sweet black and red fruit attack, spice driven mid-palate lift with expanding flavors that coat all the tongues flavor receptacles, does show some slight hard edges in the back-end. Finishes long and satisfying though. The first of 3 bottles I've been sitting on for 3 years, think I timed this very well - drinking great this evening.

Aerated into decanter and let sit for 3 hours. Fair amount of sediment to be mindful of. Well, the dumb phase is over, and as good as this was in its youth, it may be better now. This is my 9th TN and 6th time scoring this, so not much else I can add, other than this doesn't work so well on a PnP. It demands (and rewards) patience. One of the rare wines that can be big and subtle at the same time. Just a tremendous value.

Big, fat, powerful. Although this kind of modern, low acid wine is generally not my taste, this wine provides a lot of fun because it has depth as well. Even on the third day it is persistent, full and elegant and reveals some complexity. Should further gain complexity without losing its power within the next five years. But I´m not sure if it will be an interesting wine beyond 2020 because of the low acid. I have 10 bottles left so time will tell.

Big and alcoholic. Too much on its own, and it would need a really powerful food to go along with it, if such a thing exists... Steak au poivre? Something with a strong tapenade? Too much for me. But I imagine well done for people who like this big, alcoholic, thick style of wine. 14.5% alcohol.

Big fruit with the classic Toro 'heat' at mid-palate from warm summers in northern Spain. Scoring 92 because while it has a smoky texture from the Temparanillo, the overall complexity puts this wine at 92. I have gotten this from $30-35 per bottle at different times, making for a good QPR.

This wine is huge! Dark, earthy leather like nose which completely blocks out any surrounding odors and makes you wanna deep dive into it. On the palate the blackest fruit imaginable and already soft powder like tannins. Wine kept evolving after opening and would definetly decant the next time. One down, 5 to go... cant wait, but i should...

My 9th bottle, and still amazed how it can show differently every time. This go around put half in decanter and vac'd the other half immediately. First half never fully opened (4 hours in decanter) and was disappointing based on prior experiences. 2 nights later, the half that had been vac'd was fantastic. Had the chocolate / coffee / toffee / toasty note that's so great, with many secondary notes too.

A very full bodied, smooth and well structured red from Toro, Spain. This is 100% Tempranillo (Tinta de Toro in Toro). Contrary to most areas in Spain where wines are more earthier than fruity, this has a combination of both.

Getting better... Richer, deeper, longer finish than last bottle. Perfect oakiness up front. Was that chocolate at the end? Almost rich depth like a port or PX dessert wine. No hurry, though, it seems like these could be good 10 years from now.

This was our 8th bottle of this and it was completely closed. All of them have shown variation from one to the next, certainly more inconsistency than can be explained by the aging process, but that's always been part of the fun. However, this was the first that presented such a muted nose. It's was still pleasant and tasty, but just wouldn't reveal much considering how expressive past bottles have been. As far as I can tell there were no flaws, just tight. About the only note to mention is occasional whiffs of Brett, which is one of the few notes I've never encountered on the Teso. Perhaps it's in a dumb phase right now?

Slightly burnt toffee, mocha, vanilla, cedar, smoke, plum, creme de cassis, blackberry, old leather, pipe tobacco, baking spice, and I swear at times you can pick up a hint of yellow curry. Give this a LOT of time in the decanter and the nose will blow you away. I've come to find that this is so expressive and ever changing, that pouring just a small amount in the glass allows for greater detection of it's nuances. Love this stuff. I know it will age wonderfully but can't keep my hands off it.

Clearly a well made wine. Rich complexity, currant, dark cherry, blackberry, spice and smoke. Mellowed on day 5 but was still holding weight well and was completely smooth and enjoyable. Can't wait to see how the other bottles evolve.

Compact dark red with a purple hue. Powerful nose of ripe dark cherries and blackberries, liquorice, some tar and smoke, violets, and well integrated oak. Medium+ body with slightly sweetish attack, again ripe dark cherries and blackberries, quite good concentration of fruit, good acidity, velvety medium(+) tannins that are very well integrated into the oak, just a tiny bit of alcoholic feeling, and a long and fruity aftertaste with freshness and some tannin. Drinks well now, can be cellared for quite some time. Distinctly modern in style but with good balance and freshness.

Still great. One of my favorite bottles when factoring price into the equation. I'm amazed at how it constantly evolves over the course of an evening, revealing something new every time it's tasted or smelled. I think many people could be tricked into thinking this is a well made $70 Cab.

PnP.

GREAT STUFF. Had some real bite until it opened, but once it mellowed, wow. I won't bother with tasting notes because others have already hit them perfectly, but every sip, and every whiff of the nose revealed something new. If you like complexity this one is for you. Best part is, I have more in the cellar so I'm interested in seeing how this ages.

Whoa, I had to open this again to verify my first thoughts. I decanted this wine for over an hour. Blueberry, mocha, leather, sweet toasted oak, nutmeg, clove, there is a lot going on here. Lots of spice with great length in the mouth. Very balanced and finishes great with some white pepper in the finish. Crowd favorite in my opinion........I don't give it a great drinking window because I don't feel this wine will give much more in 10+ years that it doesn't have already.

Absolutely incredible. Opaque, inky purple with bluish tint in glass. Bouquet wafts out of the glass with little coaxing offering cassis liqueur, fig, coconut, hazelnuts, new leather, caçao, and espresso. Rich, full bodied with layers and layers of creamy palate coating blue and black fruits. Well structured and the finish goes on forever with toasted nuts, espresso, creamy dark chocolate. Drinking well now but will easily go for another 7-10 years.

Wow, the bottle says it all! Victorino!!!! This wine was my personal favorite of the evening. Rich and plush aromas of blueberry jam, molasses, mineral and slightly floral on the nose. This wine coats your mouth effortlessly with yummy dark fruit, and layers and layers of complexity. The wine was great immediately, but definitely developed over the upcoming hours. Best to decant for about 2 hours.

WOW WOW WOW.

Eguren wines tasting with Marcos Eguren (Brussels): Very dark red colour with purple notes. In the nose dark berries, relatively sweetish, some tar and liquorice and some flowery notes – violet-flavoured candy? Full bodied, dark berries, big concentration, very obvious tannin, very good acidity, a slight alcoholic note. 90-91 p. Young, would definitely justify 1-2 p more if the alcoholic note was more integrated – could this be produced by more maturity, perhaps? I was surprised that I could feel alcohol coming through given the impressive concentration, and since I’ve previously tasted its “little brother” Almirez without feeling this.

Not the moment to open. Okay during the first hour but then it completely closes down.

Great depth and lots of fruit, but I think this needs at least 5 years to really shine and unleash its full potential.

Still great. One of my favorite bottles when factoring price into the equation. I'm amazed at how it constantly evolves over the course of an evening, revealing something new every time it's tasted or smelled. I think many people could be tricked into thinking this is a well made $70 Cab.

This wine is just awesome. Dark fruit, tobacco, leather, mocha, and it's plush and balanced. Many years left.

Dark, brooding, leathery ink bomb. Bitter Black fruits and cigar box punch but lovely and "smooth". Loved this very much and am very pleased I have another 5 bottles to enjoy over the next 3-5 years.

As described elsewhere; after about 30 mins open (no decant) it had great complexity, lots of dark fruit (plums?) and excellent balance. A wonderful, rich wine.

Dark in color with aromas of leather, blueberry and anise. In the mouth there is great depth with excellent fruit and lovely rustic characteristics. Great finish and length.

PnP.

Allowed to breathe in bottle for two hours....really smooth, could do with a little more integration in another year or so for the tannins (though silky) that provide something to chew on...extremely good value at the price point
