This was very nice. Generously shared by MLEH. Cork was in perfect condition. Bottle was upright for a few weeks, decanted just prior to service at 6pm to filter off sediment at the bottom, of which there was a considerable amount of very fine sediment. On the nose this showed strong vanilla and baking spice in front of su bois. On the palate there was a surprising amount of cherry fruit left mixed with pleasant earthy tones. Was surprised at how youthfully this showed. Went extremely well with truffled camebebert, charcuterie, and assorted cheeses.
For what it's worth, this opened up nicely during our cheese and charcuterie course in the decanter. Did not lose any steam at all. If anything, it gained depth and precision.

Ruby most of the way out. Funk, soil, and black fruit-a pretty damn good aromatic mix for Clos Vougeot. Medium to full bodied. Tamer and less rambunctious in the mouth than on the nose, but still pretty strapping, powerful Burgundy. The acidity of the year has resolved, but it still has a good thwack of tannin. Nothing unduly sweet, textural, or refined about it, but I really enjoyed its brute force directness and gutsiness that reflected its appellation. Drink or hold for another 6-8 years.

Quite enjoyable, showing the dark brawny side of CV. Impressively concentrated and dense with dark red fruits nice acid lift and chunky tannins. Comes across much younger then vintage. Still years ahead. Not a lot of nuance or detail here, but wonderful flavors.

This wine is still in great shape. Classic Clos Vougeot. Cherry, strawberry and mineral on nose and palate. Light but fruity with great color, balance, volume and finish. If it has faded, I couldn’t taste it.

PnP and served at cellar temp which was 57 degrees. Color is medium garnet with orange coming in at the edge.
Pretty nose which gives off baking spice and Mcintosh apple. Fragrant scented woodsmoke. Still quite fruit primary on the nose with secondary elements of old leather and animal/feral coming in.
Medium in body. Palate has really nice acidity - very sappy and tart. The finish is meaty with iron notes. Tannin grips a bit.
Well-structured to last many more years. This is drinking very nicely!

At first we thought this was corked due to the musty aromas. However, over time in the glass the mustiness started to blow off. More black fruit than red with some funk on the nose. The finish much better than the nose. Maybe an off bottle?

Vinetasters: Clos Vougeot (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Very deep and intense fruit here, a little more liqueur-like, and some candied fruit flavours. Nice mix of red and black fruit, but here the tannic structure is definitely showing a little more raw. Probably a bit on the younger side, and coupled with the tannins and flashy fruit. My 6th, group's 7th. (Labelled Domaine Louis Jadot.)

I've normally not been the biggest Vougeot fan, but this bottle was an eye-opener and makes me think I should look out for Jadot's versions. The fruit's quite fresh and just rich enough here, not showing the '96 leanness despite the spine of high acidity beneath, and it's accented by plenty of savoury earthy and faintly mushroom-like notes. Very pretty, nicely balanced, and very easy to drink.

1996 Jadot Horizontal (Chicago, IL): Domaine Louis Jadot. I think expectations for this wine were tempered because it was, well, Clos Vougeot, but this was the wine that bucked my expectations the most tonight. The nose is spicy and dark, with an earthy intensity. However, this is less about raw power than the Bonnes Mares and Clos de Beze; this is a gentler, softer wine that is drinking splendidly now. As far as the expectations of the vintage? I wouldn't have picked 1996 if I had had this blind.

Decanted 8 hrs. A beautiful dark ruby garnet. Something slightly grubby on the nose but on the palate wonderful smooth dark fruit backed up with some decent tannic grip. Remarkably though no real secondary flavours yet despite being 22 years young. Big and beefy. Still not ready, this is ageing at a snail's pace.
When initially opened, this seemed light and watery and nearly went down the sink but after 8hrs had taken on some real weight and complexity. Hold for at least another five years or decant well in advance.

Similar notes and extract but slightly more advanced than the '96. This has hints of maturity but a long life ahead. There is a lot of room for development. I would drink or preferably hold for another 5 years. It should at least 20 more years of life if properly stored.

Decanted two hours and consumed with a very rich chicken and shiitake mushroom dish, this wine was in a beautiful place, smack dab in the middle of its drinking window IMHO. Hauntingly aromatic nose, notes of blood orange and cranberries, and quite long. Tannins certainly still present but taking a back seat. Could not have asked any more of this bottle (whose fill was rather low), especially for the price -- a bargain (in Grand Cru burg terms anyway)!

A big wine, a bit more so than is my preference, and I'd advise those holding it to listen to the CT comments saying wait. Remarkably it's not fully ready. You get a sense there is more to come, the wine is still somewhat closed off, the tannins still a bit too much in charge until it arrives at a burgundy "forget the food and see and taste only me" moment
Ruby color that almost exactly matched the 2002. More aromatically advanced with perfume, soy, and redder fruit. Like the younger vintage, pretty elegant for this cru. Crisp acidity and some tannin, excellent length. This is really coming around beautifully and displayed none of the tart 1996 structure that was obvious early on. Outstanding although not clearly superior to the 2002 given the difference in age and development.

Tasted in double-blind fashion from a bottle generously provided by M.B., this opaque garnet wine still appears to be in need of cellar time. The nose shows tobacco, earth, plum and pickling spice aromas, while the palate is characterized by tart cherry and cocoa. Medium-to-full-bodied, it frames its fruit with medium-to-high acidity, well-integrated alcohol (13.5%) and medium dusty tannins. Solid in the middle, it ends with a lengthy tart finish. I strongly suspect that this wine's best is yet to come. Drink 2018-2025.

tasted with the 1996 Jadot Clos del la Roche, hints of eath, richness, spice, sour red cherry fruit when opened on the nose, bright red color, very rich texture and on the palate, more of the same notes on the palate, slightly more rustic, masculine than the Clos de la Roche overall, improved nicely as the evening dinner wore on, however needs 5 years to each its peak, medium finish.

A pleasant surprise as all of the other Jadot Burgs I've tasted have never even come close to wowing me. But most have been under 15yrs too. This btl at 15yrs old is in a great spot. Silky texture, balanced and intriguing. Clean and interesting nose. Shows none of the rusticity associated with CdV. Not in top tier of Mugnier, Rousseau, Roumier or DRC but a very very nice Burg. 92+ This blt emptyed ahead of all of the other reds tonight including my blt.

Smell: Earth, strawberries, cherries, manure, mushrooms, and cigar box with overlays of dark fruits.
Taste: strawberry, cranberry, cherry, and hints of cigar box.
Overall: Still has plenty of tannin and acidity to last several more years. A little tight initially but slowly given some time in the decanter it opened up. This is a wine that shows wonderful potental...yet it is still so very young. Despite being stored in a cellar that averages 75 degrees it is still so very young. I only had one bottle...if you are sitting on these, do yourself a favor and wait another 2-4 years.

Our good friends Steve and Sue brought this along today to Lorena’s in Maplewood, NJ, and what a treat it was! Gorgeous ruby color in the glass, still thinning towards the rim and showing its youth. This had a really nice earthy nose, with some deep black cherry, earth, soil, and mushroom, with faint hints of spice. There was very little alcohol on the nose, but a bit still showing its youth. On the palate, this wine seemed really young, and just goes to show how well Burgundy, when properly stored can age. Nice raspberry and cherry tones on the palate, with some old world earthiness to it. Nice spice and acidity, with a smooth finish made this wine very pleasurable. I could easily see this wine lasting another 10 years plus, so if you have them in the cellar, do yourself a favor and give it another 5 years on its side, and I think you’ll be in for a great treat. 93 points.

Wow, what a big disappointment. The wine was ruby in color with very slight bricking at the rim. The nose had that forest floor mineral thing going on, but the palate was all tannin with absolutely no sweetness or richness. The wine was shut down hard, but I was unable to see how it could ever come out of its slumber with anything good to give. It was lean, tart, foursquare and mute. Too bad, I had such high hopes.

This Burgundy is earthy, dirty, and mushroomy in the best way. The nose is vegetal without being green; it also boasts nice spice and toast beside the "new earth mud" scent. Another few years will probably soften the surprisingly firm tannins, which make this a bigger wine than I had expected.
