New Year's Eve Warmup (State Street Manor - Chicago IL): Powerful black fruit with a richness and full mouth feel of textures. Perhaps mature for its age, but that is the 2007 vintage, and the age has brought forth so many glorious Leroy nuanced elements. Tasted double blind, I did not very well, thinking it Gevrey grand Cru base don its meatiness (not a terrible assessment for Pommard) and Grand Cru based on density (not a terrible assessment for Leroy).

I keep going back and forth on this one. It’s a sexy, impressive profile on the nose and palate. But it is a bit forced and not backed up with a real depth of material. Super enjoyable which merits the 93 points, but seems somewhat manipulated.

At better than the last bottle. No reduction. Fully open nose of Leroy spice, red fruit. This was very soft and easy. Nice balance, low acidity. Smooth finish

Pretty reductive on the nose and palate. I felt this improved with air, but still was not as charming as I remember. Maybe a slightly off bottle. Having said that, pretty impressive for a Pommard village.

Deep ruby color, floral aroma but lost quickly. We found leather instead. Structure with complex after taste. Shame it was the last bottle I have. (1920 out of 3036 btls)

Enjoyable, but paled next to an 07 Cathiard Malconsorts. This has telltale Leroy characteristics but lacking dynamism and oomph. From a bottle that had a soaked cork but no seepage, I’d say it was correct.

In decanter 3h before serving. Explosive rose and violet aroma. Power in the nose. The taste is a bit thin with nice acidity and silky tannin. Wonderful!

We drank over 3 hours just leaving the wine in the opened bottle. Hardly imagine this is a big and complex wine, with concentrate noses, mushroom, chocolate etc. The last drop we had is the best. So I will leave the other bottle for two more years.

Wow! Stop!

The typical Leroy spice on the nose delivers along with red fruit and jasmine. Drank over 4 hours and this really opened with time and got deeper. Medium finish.

Floral and fruity in the nose, caramel, cherries, strawberries, mints, and yellow roses; quite full-bodied on the palate, yet still rather acidic, dark berries, light spices, and unresolved tannins; long finish mirroring the palate; overall, 93-94 points; still quite young at this stage to me.

[PWS' Domaines Leroy and d'Auvenay Dinner at Bellota Restaurant, Melbourne] Translucent medium deep crimson, purple flange. Plummy black & red cherry bouquet with suggestions of mineral, limestone, black raspberry, strawberry, redcurrant, mocha, spices & fully absorbed oak. Medium weight, quite deep, intense, fresh, sweet, juicy & succulent red & black fruit flavors, reinforced by moderate amount of polished tannins, silky extracts & medium fine balancing acidity; surprisingly approachable with lingering sweetness & freshness of fruit. Long sustained finish.

Forførende nese med bringebær, granateple og noe krydder. Eleganse og silkemyk, frisk, men ikke uten power. Leskende deilig vin som drikker godt nå. Lang fruktig finish. Vanskelig å stoppe å drikke denne. Lovely!

Leroy Masterclass with Gilles DESPREZ (Caveau Wine & Bar, Shaw): Alcohol :: 13% This is a bit more reserve than the NSG but equally deep and class, perhaps with more iron, salinity and meatiness. Medium - full bodied. Again, kicking off with lovely umami note together with saline mineral that caresses the palate together with all the rounded sweet fruits and crushed stones. Tannin is firm but polish, giving excellent grip but not heavy at all. Finished with good length and more mineral complexity and umami note appearing and lingering. 92-94

Tasted double blind. Seemed both reductive and tired, so was shocked when unveiled because these are rare problems for Domaine Leroy.

Christie's Wine Dinner: A Journey Through the Vinkällare of Staffan Hansson (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Lots of spice with mature red cherry. Very Leroy in its Vosne-styled character. Moderate weight, good length and weight. If blind, I would have thought this older. Best now through 2022.
