100 year old vines, Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Valdigue and Cinsault in unspecified amounts. Give it some air and it's a rich wonderful wine. Warm spices on the nose with some raspberry notes. On the palate it shows raspberry, black pepper, some cherry. Great acidity and firm tannins, everything in balance. It finishes long with prominent red fruit and sharp spice notes. Lovely wine. Will hold for a few more years with no trouble.

Needs air. Decant for at least an hour. Do not pop and pour. Very flat in the first 30 minutes. A little bit of an alcohol finish. One dimensional with a dark fruit profile. Would score higher, if more complex and more balanced.

This wine improved with air, but for the first 30mins+ it has a weird acidic after taste. This is not ready yet, but all the raw material is there. Loads of dark fruit, but wish it was more complex...AM

Finally decided to try one of Bedrock's Heritage blends with a little age on it. Wow. I will be popping recent vintages any time soon. Let them rest if you can.
Similar notes to three years ago but the rough edges are gone and it shows much more finesse. Still young, but I love how it's come together.

15.4% alcohol. It's been about 16 months since I last tasted this. Transparent purple-ruby red. Wonderfully expressive, mostly red fruit aromas. Exceptionally bright and precise flavors of cherry, black cherry, raspberry, a little pepper, smoke and asian spice. Savory, deep, vibrant and complex.
The grapes come from a dry-farmed vineyard planted in 1909. On the back label, Morgan describes the varietal mix as a cofermentation of "Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, along with traces of Valdigue and Cinsault.
Fabuleux!

Decanted for an hour, it improved remarkably from tight to somewhat expressive. This still needs two years before a pop and pour. Dark color, nose has some pepper and dark fruits. Mouth coating depth and expression. Very interesting wine with many levels. Love Bedrock wines...AM

Interesting side note, as Morgan came by to chat while we were tasting this wine. Apparently he's gotten a "cease and desist" order from Diageo and will no longer be able to use this name going forward. So be sure to pass along any good ideas! As for the wine, this had a somewhat muted nose but was more expressive on the palate than the Bedrock heirloom. Grapey blueberry (restrained and in balance, though), very different fruit profile than the BH. Smooth finish w/ velvety tannin. Nice. 90+ Bedrock Winemaker Dinner with Morgan Twain-Peterson at The Breslin, New York, NY

a fantastic Dry Creek Zin blend...continued to improve throughout the day...paired with homemade chili, the fruit came out and the spicyness of the chili integrated well with the wine.

An evening with friends (Chris and Renee's): Very tight and never fully opened. I suspect the leftovers will be much better today. Lots of black raspberries, boysenberries, Chambord, some chocolate and violets. Very tightly wrapped. Great texture. On the palate, this has so much yet it is all upfront fruit. Seems to have lots of stuffing underneath but not visible. Wait a few years.

Holy smokes, am I ever glad I found Bedrock Wine Co.! Lorenzo's Heirloom is just one of the incredibly interesting (in a good way), and delicious, wines produced by Morgan Twain-Peterson.
This field blend of primarily Zin, Carignane and Petite Sirah comes together just beautifully. All manner of dark fruits define the nose, with those same fruits, primarily raspberry, blackberry and black cherry, all combining to make this a special wine.
Not sure if the '08 can still be found at retail, but if you come across any of the Bedrock Wine Co. bottlings, grab 'em and enjoy!

Really enjoyed this. Parks a ruby purple, with an inviting nose of dark fruit and spice. Palate is not at all jammy, with restrained fruit and a dusty tannin component that I really enjoyed. Goood mix of wild blackberries, a little plum, more spice and bramble fruit. Medium smooth finish rounds out the wine well. Morgan seems to be firing on all cylinders.

15.4% alcohol. Medium-dark ruby red. An expressive and interesting nose of red and black fruit and forest spice. The flavors are rich, deep and savory - cherry, black cherry, rasberry, a bit of pepper and a spicy finish. Very well balanced, this wine has great fuit concentration, but comes across as vibrant and light on its feet.
For you vineyard geeks, Lorenzo's Vineyard was planted in 1909. You numismatics will recall that was the final year of the Indian Head Penny and the initial year of the Lincoln Head penny (if you have one from the San Franciso mint, you are in luck). The vineyard is dry-farmed and is a cofermentation of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite and some other stuff. Native yeast fermentation.
very interesting blend--big fruity monster with some interesting secondary flavors. overall--well recieved by our group (wedding weekend!) and went well with the ribeyes. Look forward to re-trying in a year or two

December Zinfandel Tasting (Scott & Todd's): Similar to the Ridge, with slightly more mineral complexity and tannic grip, but also with more spicy fun fruit showing. Not much change on day 2. Should be spectacular in 2 years. I preferred the Bedrock Heirloom to this, but both turned out to be worthy QPR wines. 90-91.

When mom made the jelly sandwich, how scrumptious it was. Lorenzo Heirloom does it all for me with its lengthy finish and a nosy explosion of jam, berries and oak. Go get some.

91++ This is very primary, showing a little heat early then blowing off. Probably decant an hour next time. Ripe (not over-ripe) blue and black fruits with great depth and polish. This has nice white pepper thing that keeps you interested, but I think with some time secondary flavors will develop (can't wait)...AMM

Tasted with Grape Nuts group. We were concentrating on indegenous grapes and Bedrock Wine Co. came up. I had several in the cellar and chose ther Lorenzo's Heirloom. Dark wine in the glass and deep dark fruit flavors. The entire bottle was consumed with grilled lamb chops and other rustic foods. What a treat.

Popped and poured knowing that most of the bottle would be consumed on night two with dinner and friends...couldn't wait. Definitely improved with air time in the glass, but nose was still a bit tight showing red berries, a little black pepper, and some vanilla bean aromas. Nice med-full bodied blend with more of the red raspberry transitioning to blackberry on the mid to finish. Tannins are approachable at this point, but the med-high acid gives it nice structure and rusticity. Slightly out of balance, but definitely has the potential to come together and score higher. The fiinish is legnthy as well with a hint of the 15.4% coming through. Hold for 1-2 years.

An interesting nose and flavor profile, at times rustic with chewy tannins, at others, offering up deep black fruits and layers of complexity with smoky meat notes lingering on the finish. A chameleon of a wine as it changes colors in the glass and in the mouth.

Day 1 from memory - this opens up very tight. Almost has a grenache kind of character to it. I was expecting something much richer and deeper. Sure enough, an hour or so in the glass this turned into all of that. An unusual but very pleasant flavor profile that I just couldn't peg. Unlike anything I've had.
Day 2 - from a remaining half bottle. Immediate impressions on the pour....hot and lots of alcohol. Dang, I was hoping this would last its way into Day 2. Then once again with about 30 minutes of air, this turned into a rich and very well behaved wine. Balanced even, at least if you like your wines big and bold. Nice acidity and some soft tannins with huge fruit. The 50% Zin is definitely apparent, but the blend as a whole is softer and more lush on the palate than I get from most Zins.
This one bounces back and forth between "just ok" and "outstanding". The winery's advice is to hold these, and I think that advice is sound. I'd score this 91-93 points when its hitting it's stride during present drinking. Maybe even better with some bottle age. I don't see any reason to open my last bottle before 2013, and I suspect this may last much longer. I've been very happy with my Bedrock experiments this spring, from the whites to the Syrahs and now this.
