I have always been a fan of the regular vintage Pol Roger wich I regularly buy and cellar, but I have not so much experience with de Blanc de Blancs. Well, if this bottle is representative I ought to put some of these away as well. Surprisingly young and fresh for such an old wine. Very fine mousse. Lots of granny smith apples, lemon, iodine and salt, combined with some more mature notes of almonds, lightly buttered toast, heather honey and toffee. Good lenght.

A long Sunday lunch at Noble Rot (Wellington, NZ): A spicy, precise, citric and mineral bouquet. In the mouth, green apple crisp with lemons, slatey minerals, nectarines and a touch of honey. Underpinned by racy, driven acidity. A lovely, refreshing and focussed Champagne that Mike identified as being in the Pol house style. The acidity put me in mind of a 1996 although there wasn't the development you'd expect from a 20 year old wine. I'm a big Pol fan but have found their 2002 Blanc de Blancs a bit up and down. The 2000 here was excellent.

Pale golden, pinprick bubbles. Biscuit, red apple, some wine gum, ripe fruit aroma. Biscuit, ripe apple, faint honey, faint fruit syrup taste. Refined, with slight sweetness to it, very nice as a celebratory bottle.

Domaine vs Negotiant champagne tasting with a couple of ringers: Classic, beautiful BdB from a Grande Marque. Like a Cinderella - will be loved by everybody. Creamy toast, brioche, lovely soft apples on the nose. Round and proper, very easy to drink. Excellent and I would love to have more of this.

Inviting but soft nose of apples, a bit of brioche and a little saline mineral note. Light golden color looks quite young but fine mouse almost disappears moments after pouring into a regular wine glass. Decent body and palate of tart red apple, touch of minerals and a good lick of saliva inducing acidity leads to a medium-medium+ length finish with the acidity especially persistent.
Had with rock lobster salad and seafood risotto in Venice, Italy.

drunk NYE some yeast on the nose plus apples, maybe some tart tartine very dry, lovely small bubbles, apples, initially very dry almost tart but after a while a lovely richness comes through, chalky super elegant, perhaps a bit young but gorgeous i love this Had a bottle 3/3/13 and it's rounder, with some custard flavours and lots and lots of apples. Perfect

Right after opening a delicious, rather sophisticated, citrustaste with a nice, interesting, but a somewhat weak body, that I'm sure will evolve with a few hours of air. Very long. After a few hours more integrated and very balanced, however rather short. Good - but far from exceptional.

Nice fresh champagne with tones of mandarin and citrus. I rate the blanc de blanc from Pol Roger very high but this vintage is simply not good enough I guess.

I admit I didn’t notice when this stopped being ‘Brut Chardonnay’ and became ‘Brut Blanc des Blancs’, but I don’t suppose it’s that important. It had a very attractive nose of bread and complex apple fruit. It seemed fresh but there was a lot going on when you smelled it, clearly more complex, if perhaps not as many laughs, as the Gratien I popped when I came out of hospital. The palate was toasty and complex with many layers of flavour and those flavours really persisted too. As Champagnes go it was utterly delicious and refreshing but clearly showing the style and class to age for a reasonable period of time. I’ve had Pol Chardonnay that I’ve aged for a long time and I see no reason why this would not age just as well. When the 2002 comes out it’ll be cracking!

Somewhat nondescript nose with notes of damp earth, wet wool, chalk and some oak toast. Dry, medium bodied and quite smooth palate with creamy mid-palate. Green apple, lime and some richer fruit. with nice bitter character towards the mid-length finish. Not that convincing.

Young and promising but also tasty now. A careful nose and a dry and tight mouth feel. It takes a lot of place but doesn't feel heavy. Aperitif. 92+ p.
