A powerfully wine. Pnp on day one: lots of tannins first. More accessible after 1-2 hours. Now, on day 3, wonderful. Deep dark red color, Sangiovese nose. Cherries, red currant on the palate. Nice smoothness. Long and silky finish. Strong. Tannins are smooth and silky but present. So I conclude that it’s early in the drinking window.

Subsequent notes on this wine from about four years ago. Deep dark reddish-purple in color with ever-so-slight slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of blackberries, dark cherries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, herbal notes of thyme, cocoa, spices, some tar, tobacco, minerals & cedar notes in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with cocoa, spices, herbs, minerals & a touch of vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing although even at 15 years of age, it should continue to develop with further aging if cellared properly.

First bottle from an OC. Very unusual given the hot 07 Tuscany vintage. Pnp. Dark garnet with a transparent rim Starts with a lot of wood spices on the nose, on the palate the ripeness is however very much in check unlike most other 07 Tuscans including the winery’s flagship wine Nardo. My first impression on the palate is one of a saline sea breeze (I know this is a red and not a white), later you get tobacco / leather but also vegetal notes which is unusual for Tuscany. This is complex even if the fruit does not show a lot of depth in my eyes. Initially I thought sell but as the wine evolves it seems like a keeper. Very unusual profile for an 07 Tuscan.

Sweet dark fruit of black cherries and blackberries, quite rich, but balanced with good acidity, some vegetal and meaty spice notes lend further interest: tobacco, herbes de provence, tar, beef jerky. Tannins are very polished. The fruit still tastes young and fresh and there are no signs yet of age. This was our last bottle, but I imagine this will hold well another 5 years. Excellent value. - 92 points

An unusual blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Marselan and Alicante Bouschet, but it tastes as if there was at least a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon in it no matter what the official stats say. Dark ruby colour. Juicy red fruit, cherry, blackberry, black currant, plum, vegetal notes, some chocolate, a black tea leave component and spices, with good acidity, grippy tannin and superb length. Medium- to full-bodied, balanced and very long. Great wine! I would hold for at least another five years, or make sure to give it a long decant. I will try to seek out more.

Blend of 40% Montepulciano, 25% Sangiovese, 25% Marselan and 10% Alicante Bouschet. Dark red with some purple at the core, but also some browning of the edges. Opaque. Aromas show ripe and lush blackberries, cherries and plums and an earthiness. There is a nice bit of an herbal element like a hot Italian countryside as well. Well balanced, medium to full bodied, with just a touch of drying sweet tannins on the finish. Primary flavours still show ripe slightly sweet dark berries and cherries. Plums and cocoa hit on the mid palate. Faint vanilla pudding on the finish. An herbal element runs through the wine as well. Smooth … round with a decent length to the finish.

Great bottle of Italian wine and a very interesting blend. Dark and brooding, fine dark fruit flavors and complex flavors of tar, tobacco, smoked beef, Mediterranean herbs, licorice. Super silky tannins and well-balanced acidity. Went very well with the braised lamb. Drinking well now, but this still has several years of ageing potential. No sign of age yet. - 92 points

Decanted to remove solids, then let rest for a few minutes. This wine is tasting great right now! Rich, dark red cherries and classic earthy notes as found in a great Brunello. Dark red without any discoloration on the rim. Dark red fruit nose. No off flavors. Tastes just as good the second day too.

open a couple hours and tasting throughout, at first a bit of oak showing and quite dark, over the time this didn't move much, still dark and monolithic, only towards the end did this show a bit of brightness. Could use more time.

Gosh! This is not a good wine in my opinion, at all. Heavy oak nose, hot with alcohol and sweet dark fruits. Palate follows the nose, sticky sweet over extracted and oak battered. Really disappointed about how the wines from Montepeloso I have had lately has shown, and will not restock again, ever. The whole line up seems to be extremely manipulated, over oaked and overdone. Lacks all finesse, elegance and pureness. Disappointment. (82 – 84)

This is a "wow" wine, and one I have had a handful of times, this vintage, over the last four years. But it is now just wonderful. A woody, sweet nose with some overripe red cherry overarching. In the mouth a very sensual feel, closing off somewhat abruptly tannic mid palate but opening up again on a long satisying finish. Initial attack is, again, red ripe cherry and earth, tar and tobacco. Odd juxtaposition of feminine nose and dark masculinity in the mouth. Just popped and poured and at first it was open and accessible. Two hours later it was closing off with tannins but still lovely. Anxious to,try it 24 hours from now.

A true wow experience tonight! This is a very Italian and very food-friendly in its expression. The Eneo keeps impressing me after 3-4 years of cellaring. As a an entry-level wine of star producer Montepeloso it is the rather unusual blend of 40% Montepulciano, 25% Sangiovese, 25% Marselan and 10% Alicante Bouschet. Of course I am not able to tell what good the Alicante Bouschet does in this blend, but the result is amazing. Tonight integration, balance and elegant power are the hallmarks of this effort. The nose exhibits elegant red dark fruit, but also forest floor, with a thyme and sage topping. The palate is lush and actually perfectly integrated with a very silky impression. Especially the acidity is superbly expressed tonight. This is a super wine for sure. The length on the finish lasts for about a minute or more. Many producers would present this as a prestige cuvée, yet it is an entry level wine... Wow!

I doften mogna mörka körsbär och lite italienska örter. I smaken gott om körsbär och fina silkiga tanniner. Bra balans men skulle kanske önskat en aning mer syra. Väldigt mycket Toscana
A stunning wine from super producer Montepeloso. The nose exhibits subtle Amaretto, lovely dark mature fruit, spiciness and above all abundant cherry. There are multiple layers of complexity and the nose is just intriguing. The palate is integrated and nicely balanced. The fruit is a bit less outspoken compared to previous tastings and it plays in perfect harmony with acidity and tannins. The tannins are very elegant and gives a velvety and silky impression. The nose and palate is combined into a super effort with a 50+ second length on the finish. A super wine from a star producer. Very very nice!

A marvellous effort from star producer Montepeloso. The nose exhibits lovely dark mature fruit, subtle Amaretto, cherry and lovely spiciness which adds a second layer of complexity. The palate is totally integrated and super balanced. Yes, the fruit is very outspoken but so is acidity and tannins. The tannins are quite elegant and gives a mature impression. Combined with a very nice length on the finish, the nose and palate all help create a super effort. This wine keeps impressing me each time I taste it. Bravo!

A beautiful wine with a wonderful nose. This cuvée based on Sangiovese and Montepulciano is already quite complex with lovely red fruit adjoined by thyme, lavender, apricot and saddle leather. The palate is perfectly balanced, yet not fully integrated. This effort is best to food on the more heavy side, preferably with a forward acidity - e.g. tomato sauce based on red wine. I have tasted the Eneo many times before and it just keeps impressing me.

I gave this wine an extra point for style. excellent concentration of tart juicy cherries, and dark licorice/blackberries. amazing structure that I seek in Italian wines - better w/ food than a sipper. this will last a while given adequate fruit, and excellent structure. can't beat the price for this quality.

Dark, deep red mature fruit and vivid tankins met us tonight when opening the 07 Eneo. This wine is a baby, but very expressive and providing a lot of pleasure. The nose forms a crescendo of dark fruit, luxurious oak and an overall integration which is close to enviable. The palate just adds to this impression, but is somewhat more one-dimensional tonight. The length on the finish is superb. A truly nice wine. Go grab a bottle or two if you have the chance.

Well executed IGT, but still needs time. Even after 3hr decant nose was still recitent, typical sangio notes with slight overtones of hot alcohol. The palate in contrast was fantastic - big sangio cherry/strawberry fruit up front, cab structure on the back end. Fine tannins and good minerality mid palate with a tobacco note. Mid-weight texture. Elegant. Just delicious drinking now, but i'm going to wait for it to integrate for a few years and let the nose come forward before opening another.

This wine is true evidence of the skills of the team behind Montepeloso. The 2007 Eneo showed its very best sides tonight with a very well balanced nose full of mature fruit, lovely luxurious oak and an enviable purity. The palate is integrated with sandy tannins speaking out a bit loudly. The acidity was magical and helped move this wine one or two scores. A beautiful wine well worth trying out.

Deep ruby, almost purple. Opaque. Showing extremely well upon opening with fruit forward flavours of chocolate covered cherries and a bit of tuscan savoury goodness. I was a little suspicious as it seemed to lack the structure I was expecting which would be firmer tannins and brighter acidity. Well low and behold after about 2 hours of air (not decanted) it started to fall apart, the fruit faded and the green streak started to dominate. Too bad, I had higher expectations of a 93pt wine.

Popped and poured a glass to see how it was showing out of the bottle. Wow. This unique (to me at least) blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese with some Alicante and Marselan is raring to go. Intense and complex aromas of plum, dark cherry, tobacco, and Tuscan earth jump out of the glass. On the palate, very tightly wound on the entry and mid, but you can feel the weight and get a sense of the rich and powerful dark fruit that is lurking underneath. Really shines on the finish where it opens up to licorice and a lovely incense-like perfume. Chalky tannins show youth while the acid keeps everything fresh. This is great now, but can't wait to try my other bottle in 5 years or so.

Decanted for sediment and followed over three hours, the wine is simply gorgeous. With air, the "candy" aromas dissipated, leaving pure raspberry ganache, sweet cherries, and a hint of tobacco. Really rich on the palate, with the opulence of the fruit masking the tannin and acid underneath. Great length on the finish too. It seems surprisingly drinkable at this young stage.
Gorgeous bottle of wine, and I'm glad to have more. 93+.

One of the darkest bottle I've ever seen -- empty it's still jet black. The wine is purple and opaque. The nose is cherries and plubs with a hint of tuscan minerality. Palate is consistent with the nose but the tanins are surprisingly round and velvety. Checked the age and its only 5 years - would have guessed 10+. Soure cherry lingers on the finish 5+12+17+8=92

The first out of my case. Still looking extremely youthful. Needed a bit of air but after about two hours this wine was popping. Hard to pinpoint what this is or where its from, other than italy. It still has that Tuscanness in its structure but aromatically I would almost go new world.

Very dark purple. Fairly rich nose showing the warmth of the year. The Alicante really stands out in this vintage. Still needs time.

This will definitely be a crowd-pleaser. Enjoyed this quite a bit myself. Dark rich coloring and very good balance made for a great pairing with pizza.

I gave this wine an extra point for style. excellent concentration of tart juicy cherries, and dark licorice/blackberries. amazing structure that I seek in Italian wines - better w/ food than a sipper. this will last a while given adequate fruit, and excellent structure. can't beat the price for this quality.

A lovely wine which is very Italian and very food-friendly in its expression. The Eneo keeps impressing me. The nose exhibits elegant fruit, but also vivid dark forest floor, with a thyme and sage dip on the top. The palate is lush and actually nicely integrated, but the different components are still quite visible. Especially the acidity is superbly expressed tonight. The length on the finish lasts for about 45-50 seconds. Overall impression is that of an entry-level wine many producers would present as a prestige cuvée. Bravo!

Elegant. Just delicious drinking now, but i'm going to wait for it to integrate for a few years and let the nose come forward before opening another.

dark, full bodied, plum, dark cherry, chocolate, deep and fulfilling, quality of the wine was quite noticeable, unfortunately the majority of the bottle had to be consumed on the second day when it was not as pure, the last bit has sediment

Seemed to get better with time open -- very tight, almost flat at open but more expressive and full after an hour. Lots of grit and sediment which adds to a rustic feel.
