Deep brick red. Aromas of blackberry, singed wood, baked earth, cinnamon, tobacco and sloe. Hint of cardboard. Sanded dry tannins. Blackcurrant acids and walnut bitterness. Palate of prune, blackberry jam, juniper wood, baked earth, medicinal herbs and hawthorn. A fully mature, rustic and still lively wine with ripe yet fading dark fruit, typical woody and herbal aromas and long mineral finish. Tasted alongside M Chiarlo, Barbaresco Asili, 2006. Compared to the matched wine, it has generous and even sweet fruit, a personality, and a wonderful chewy finish. Slightly beyond its peak. Tasted 2023.

Recently purchased 2 bottles from a source I have never used before, so the conditions in which the wine has been stored are unknown. Upon opening, the cork of 1 bottle disintegrated but the other cork was fine. Both bottles tasted dirty and tired. The wine is over the hill and is not at all enjoyable.

Wanted to try this after the way too pushed 2004 and several other disappointing experiences with other vintages. More restrained and shy, this is a good Chateauneuf with peppery and spicy marks and kirsch. It does lose the edge a bit after a couple of days, but it's a 1999 so it's to be expected. I think the regular bottling of Bosquet des Papes in the old days is the safest bet.

Unfortunately this bottle didn't age as gracefully as my last one. Reductive notes were seriously over-pronounced. It may have been cooked. It did open up with better notes after about an hour but it still was not perfect.

In a great place now-- aroma of cherry liqueur, dried fig, garrigue, palate of same, clove, spice, dark cherry, resolved tannins, good grip. Drink now.

This hit the right spots for me. It's at a point in its development stage where I found almost no flaws. Deep dark fruits, dried fig and plums intertwined with sweet spice, cinnamon, clove, tobacco ash and tar, soft flavors of game on a dusty palate and mid-length finish. Really interesting & quite enjoyable. Looking forward to my next bottle!

A bit better than average but for a 1999 I thought it would have more ruit. Lots of graphite and gravel but only thin amounts of mulberry and boisenberry.

From magnum. Far better than expected (based on previous notes). Quite spicy and powerful. Very traditional style. went very well with the Christmas duck.

Not getting it with this bottle - it's soft and really devoid of any palate character. It just lays flat until the acid kicks in on the back end, but by then there's no flavor left to support it. Not fun at all.

From magnum. Mature color and secondary aromas, but pervaded with firm, warm earth character and better acid support than some 1999s, so the impression is of medium body and pleasing grip. Drink or hold, especially in this format.

Popped and poured. Dark color, stewed figs, brown spice bit of oak at first. The palate is a bit more focused and lithe than the nose would suggest with decent acidity, and some minerality on the finish. but still lacking the freshness of better '99s. Drink up.

Okemo, VT. Delicious. Focused and pure Grenache with distinct kirschy flavors. The fruit is bright without being polished. Peppery with lavender and licorice. The tannins are dusty. This is still a young, primary wine with years to go. Super.

Simon’s: Classic CdP with nice leather notes, mixed berries, good dose of pepper and hint of that dusty, herbal Rhone Valley character. Not a block buster, not super elegant, but I though matched perfectly with the steak with black pepper seasoning

mature courwith more browning on rim than expaected. Nose grenache dominated but plenty of interest and a strong raisnz\ character. War soft and alcoholic but a decent finish. Went very well with the BBQ.

Very dark red. Intense raisin/plum like nose, warm. Powerfull taste dominated by dry tannin (extracts) and dark fruits. Will it ever turn in to a harmonious wine. If not drink it now together with confit de canard!

Horizontale 1999 Robe assez sombre, le nez est assez complexe, sur les épices. Bouche ample, assez riche mais élégante, belle texture, finale d’une belle finesse, quoiqu’un peu amère. 90-91 pts

Can only describe this wine as flat. Decanted, without tasting, for several hours, and perhaps it was in a dumb phase. There were notes of licorice, cocoa, earth, and cherry, but it was all muted and really quite dull. Medium-bodied, soft tannins.

Very ripe nose of candied cherries, but the palate reveals rich fig and rasiny black cherry notes. There is tar and leather with a chunky, yet pleasing mouthfeel. A slightly rustic wine, but very enjoyable.

Light garnet with just the slightest hint of orange at the rim. Deep, ripe red raisin nose. Tending to over-ripe, but this is just a nuance as opposed to a dominating force like in other recent bottles. Smooth on the palate with only a slightly bitter finish. I still think this wine is poor, but this is better than some of the past bottles. (79)

in light of recent worrying notes on this wine, thoughtt I had better crack open a bottle. This one was quite different. Good bold mulberry colur, nose retcent at first then developed into warm spicy plummy fruit, rich on palate with good depth and balance, warm spicy fruit and a good finish. An excelent botle of CDP

Ahhhhh...much better than last night's bottle, but.... Dull garnet / brick / brown. Sweet plum, raisin fruit mixed with wet earth and rubber...and maybe a bit of animal blood. Complex and satisfying. The initial attack is full and sweet, the finish is a bit metallic with some bitterness. Lacking any depth in the middle. Good, certainly not great chateauneuf that in reality is unsatisfying. Drink up as there is not the depth for positive evolution. (82)

Notes from memory. Brownish-red color. Big barnyard nose with earth and mushrooms. Slightly interesting but slightly unpleasant. The taste was typical CnDP with a tannic, lingering finish.
