  • 3rd tasting Aglianico vintage 2005
Again overwhelming tertiary aromas, cedar, wet leaves, smoke, tobacco and liquorice, primary aromas predominantly black currant.

Black fruits and a medium acidity in the attack on palate. Med+ astringency that dominates balance. Mild alcohol. Medium finish without additional layers or complexity. Well integrated.

  • Balanced. Good structure. I believe it will evolve well in the next 5 years.

  • During a tasting. Medium garnet. Discrete nose of red berries, earth, oak and a hint of mint. Medium body with pronounced, drying tannins. Needs to have softer tannins for a higher note.

  • Italy Tasting @ friend's house. Medium garnet color. Pretty expressive nose of red berries (raspberries, red cherry), some dried fruit, fruit compote and some flowers (rose, violet). Medium body, medium-high acidity and medium tannins, but definitely on the dry side. It's probably a little young but I doubt that the tannins will ever fully integrate before the fruit dries out. A. Galloni (who I think very highly of) rates it 93P. In our tasting group, this was one of the least favorite wines of the night.

  • Smokey black olive nose, hints of sweet vanilla, which carries through to the palate with lively acid fruits. Richness and elegance leading to dry upfront tannins. Very typical of the best characteristics of Aglianico. Powerful stuff, will develop.
