Dunkelrot im Glas. Wenig Schlieren. Wirkt noch jung. In der Nase große Komplexität und Tiefe. Am Gaumen mächtige Struktur, sehr komplex. Deutliche Tannine. Langer Abgang. Alles da, was ein Barolo bieten muss. Schöne Kirscharomen, die aber von den Tanninen sehr gezügelt werden. Eigentlich noch zu jung. Trinkfenster in CellarTracker m.E. viel zu kurz angegeben. In 10 Jahren wahrscheinlich deutlich besser.

This made me realize that I need to drink more Barolo in life, if I can get more into this expensive hobby that is. Such a unique wine - smelling like smoked brisket thrown into a garden of the most sweet-scented flowers. Richness of fruit and tannins hits the mouth at first, but mellows down to stylish elegance with a rather firm grip again on the aftertaste. You can't simply stop at one glass.

A great Barolo for sure. Good from first pour. Better after a couple of hours decant. Rich, quite ripe, a bit tight, darkish fruit not just the red, quite juicy, burgundy like richness, fresh acidity, a bit too much for me with the lamb, as just entering its drinking window and still kicking. Next bottle in 3-5 years. Will be sublime in 2026.

Decanted an hour. This was right where it needs to be. This was amazing with big floral note with tar, and red berry fruit and mushrooms. Dense in the mouth but there is an underlying elegance here. Super long finish with a definite bigger wood influence than the generic bottling. Complex and compact. Drink 2020-2026.

A gorgeous, young Barolo. Decanted for ~2 hours and consumed over the next ~3 hours. Intense nose of dried cherry, licorice, toasted herbs, florals with some toast-tar. Medium weight palate has gritty tannin from the get go. Good freshness. Despite the structure this finds its way to glide across the palate. Firm finish. Awesome with food. The best is yet to come, but no harm to drink one now if you have a few.

This wine actually surprised me. I thought it would be too young and tannic but it was the opposite. While it has plenty of years left it did show aging at the rim. The nose was of dark fruit, dark chocolate, tobacco, smokiness, earthiness and that terroir I have come to associate with good Barolo like the classic smoke, et al in Burgundy. Expressive with allot going on, well balanced and solid backbone. Excellent, only wish I had more.
Day two held up incredibly well and drinking better than day one. The wine lost none of its character, finesse and balance.

The 2006 Ornato is a beautiful monster with massive dark red fruits, roses, soil, minerals, and a hint of brown sugar. On the palate, it is rich and seductive with notes of dark berry and soil tones, yet still youthful with chewy tannin. A note of sage rings out on the finish with long dark fruits. This wines shows huge potential and walks the line between intensity and finesse.

An Evening with Pio Boffa of Pio Cesare (Binnys Lakeview Catacombs): This wine has such a deep and complex, exotic nose! That is really what takes the attention. So many exotic asian spices, cedar hint, deep perfume, deep black fruit notes, and some underlying minerality. But those layers and laters of exotic spices! Highly concentrated with high tannins and acidity and a very very long finish with intricate complex notes that are not even worth naming. Just enjoy them! Full of masculinity. So deep that it needs at least 5 to 7 years to open up and then will get better with decades. Outstanding and powerful wine that blew everyone away.

Gambero Rosso (Metropolitan Pavilion): The nose showed cinnamon and dusty crushed berries. On the palate, this wine showed a balance toward acidity with sour berries and a dry but long and fruit concentrated finish.

Medium ruby. Very intense oak that covers the fruit. Mid-bodied with firm tanins and high acidity. Unconnected at this phase. Needs time.
