Cork in particularly pristine condition w a thin magenta crystallized layer against the wine. Nose is at first passive but the initial palate is big bright rich sweet fruit. Tannins late but accompany a spicy reasonably long finish after a big bold cherry red fruit experience. Plenty of life left but I'm drinking now b4 the '01.

On introduction, nicely supportive, not, yet, completely resolved, tannins accompany fruit of cassis and plum. As the wine passes under the mid-palate, herbal hints pop up—anise. A fairly robust wine. Good acid, along with the aforementioned still apparent tannins suggests that this wine can continue to age nicely for a few more years.

Next bottle over two days....completely different narrative.....musty nose but the palate is bright and big, cherry, braised meat, short finish of flavor but the overall coating lasted quite a while. Much better than the last bottle. There's hope.......

This was apparently my last bottle of the 2002. Sadly it was pleasant but somewhat non-descript. Soft and very drinkable but didn't stand up next to the 2005 Grgich Cab that shared the evening.
I wish I had more as these were wonderful and it may just have been this bottle that had evolved this way.

Excellent Christmas wine that had a great smell of oak and forest floor. On the palate, a smooth and consistent tasting bottle. Our last 02 and it went down quickly. All who tried it liked it. I would drink soon if you have them. The decline has begun.

Dark red and rich, a wave of dark fruit (currants, etc), some judicious acid to balance it and a nice long finish. This wine grabs my attention, but does not keep it; I let others polish it off during dinner so that we could get to our next wine. It's not that it is bad, but I don't get the point - it's too fruity and powerful for food, and I find it exhausting on its own. Still, it's OK as an example of a fruit forward wine for a few sips. The fruit is ripe and I don't see any reason to cellar it anymore.

medium ruby color with great legs; some black fruit but mostly spice and some leather on the nose; some notes of dark chocolate, too; smooth, soft and light in the mouth with blackberry and more dark chocolate; nice finish that brought some spice notes back. Well balanced and interesting.

Bought this bottle at the Napa Valley winery's tasting room for $70 and served with a prime ribeye with an onion and mushroom sautee for Arthur's birthday weekend. This is a fantastic Cabernet blend (I had to call the winery for the wine's composition since the wine's composition isn't listed on the bottle label; according to the guy I spoke to on the phone, this wine consists of approx. 85% Cab Sav, 10% Merlot, 3% Cab Fanc, and 2% Petite Verdot). This is one of the smoothest Cab/Cab blends we've ever tasted (being an 8 year-old bottle probably didn't hurt either). The nose is pure spice and earth, the flavor profile is classic Napa Cab (dark berries, spice (especially pepper), and oak), with an incredibbly smooth, lingering finish that lasts at least 30 seconds. Being an 8 year-old bottle, this wine has mellowed and matured VERY nicely; this bottle is almost as silky smooth as the '97 Opus One we had for New Year's Eve a year or two ago. Overall, this is a fantastic Cab Sav blend, though based on the price, one can definitely find a more-appropriately-priced red, especially considering the winery charged us a tasting fee depsite buying a $70 bottle of wine (what is up with THAT?!?!). A fantastic Napa Cab, though not cheap and the winery didn't exactly appreciate us buying this bottle (charging a tasting fee after buying their most expensive bottle). Recommended with reservations.....

Light brick red; strong nose of black fruit with a bit of leather or wood; full mouthfeel with full but not overpowering tannins; palate also big on fruit, but also some bitter chocolate and spices that lingered on a nice finish. Lots going on here and enjoyable from the first sip. Big bottle that softened up over several hours, getting better with each glass.

Opened not decanted. Dark maroon in color with a trace of clarity at the edge of the glass. Initial green notes with mocha and fig. As it opens in the glass, black fruit with some mustiness, continued under ripe green berry notes and a semi-bitter finish. Fair.

Dark red/violet color. Rich nose of cherries, spice and a hint of turpentine. Silky texture coats the palate and lets loose a nice array of red and black fruits, followed by charcoal and vanilla. Very enjoyable wine, but still nice and fresh - will likely smooth out further over the next 2-3 years. Excellent.

Blackberry, black plum on the nose, also milk chocolate, cedar. Big and plump, this is tasty but highly styled. Finish is hot, a bit bitter from the heat, but otherwise convincing. Not the paragon of this style, exactly (and I confess to not being a fan of that style), but this delivers a very good drinking experience.

Cellar Notes: With an inky purple hue, this Meritage blend offers aromas of ripe black plum, blackberry and violets on the nose. Saturated fruit flavors of plum, black cherry and berry mingle with nutmeg and mocha, as hints of forest and wintergreen tease the senses. The presentation of lovely ripe, unctuous fruit continues throughout a long finish of black cherry, spices and toasted oak
