Drinking superbly. Complex aromatics of smoked meats, red and purple fruits, decaying rose, coffee and black earth. It is fine and silky in the mouth, with exquisite balance and latent power. Flavours build and expand, fanning out on the long finish.

Black fruits still; forest, greenery type of aromas/briar patch, herbal tea mixed with tree bark and soil. Dark and somber but with mineral lift and elegance. I would need to try this again to evaluate it. Good potential but this is so shut down and needs another 5-8 year in my opinion.

Great healthy colour , ruby red, nose ok , taste fruity and long and as with any good wine it took a long time to drink as each mouthful was to be savoured. Not particularly velvety but very good.

Complex aromatics of gingerbread, smoked meats, sweet cherry and floral spice. The palate is sweet, round and opulent, with a nice interplay between fresh fruit flavours and savoury, earthy nuance. It has great balance and proportion and is drinking at the top of its game.

Gevrey Chambertin Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): An absolutely delight - this was a really solid CSJ that was just about coming into its own. It had a really sweetly expressieve nose, with ripe fruit tones spanning the range from red fruited raspberries and strawberry candy to honey cake and dried mangoes - all a bit exotic for a Clos St Jacques - but also weighted down with more savoury umami tones, with a bit of earthy, meaty funk nestling in the midst of the sweeter notes. A really big, strong bouquet. Lovely stuff on the palate too, this was such a joy to dring - full and round, with liberal big red fruited tones showing a lovely generosity of expression, along with a wonderful freshness and energy to it all. Lovely depth, wonderful integration, great balance and poise, with powdery tannins underneath providing a great sense of structure - this really did not drink like a 1er Cru at all. In fact, along with some of its stabelmates in the quartet of CSJs, this really put most of the Grand Crus that we had on the night in the shade. Really good indeed, and yet given the structure and balance and fruit on it, this probably still has its best years ahead of it yet - I would love to try it again come 2018-2020. 93+

HDH Burgundy Auction; 4/1/2016-4/2/2016 (Chicago, IL): This shows a lot of very, very ripe fruit on the nose. It's quite restrained in that context, and shows a very nice bit of earth and spice. Lots of freshness and red fruits, with just a nice touch of rust. The tannins are still quite grippy and this needs a lot more time for it to integrate. There's enough acidity here as well to help out the sweet fruit.

I don't know what to make of this, given the stella reviews below. The best descriptor I can think of is gloopy. Imagine rasberry soup if you can but lacking any freshness and bite - almost sickly. Meh. Destined for the casserole.
A bad bottle maybe so I may as well open another one and see what's going on. Surprising really as I bought these from the normally very reliable J&B off their main list (ie not broked) and they've been in my cellar ever since so they should be fine.

An absolutely ethereal, perfumed thing of beauty. Has so much finesse with a nose of fresh roses, smoke, mineral, leather and brown spices. In the mouth it is lacy and detailed and flavours really fan out on the finish leaving a wonderful inner mouth perfume once swallowed.

Deep colour, indicating maturity and prime, not old, age.
Complex, intense, seductive nose of luxurious pinot aromas.
Intense attack on the mouth. Medium-full body, somewhat acidic balance. Powerful, elegant, and complex midpalate. Very long tail, even if a bit subdued.
Overall impression of intensity, sophistication, and power. A top red Burg at the height of its powers.

Outstanding purity, you feel the earth with every sip (you don't really, I was just tossing on a bit). It plays in that perfect space between sweet and savoury. The fruit is perfectly ripe and texture silky. It is full and detailed and finishes with terrific minerally cut. Drinking beautifully now and should just keep motoring on for another decade or two.

Maturing nicely. Quite funky now with soft sweet raspberry fruit but plenty of cut and bite still suggesting time to go yet. However, that funky element and the softness of the fruit means to my tastes at least, these are ready to go now. I'll be drinking my last two bottles soon.

Beautful balance, poise and proportion. It plays in that joyous space where sweet and savoury collide. Smells of freshly tilled earth, raspberries and cherries. There’s a wisp of smoke and a touch of meat. It is not a big wine but all elements intermingle perfectly to create a wine of near perfect harmony.

This is a beauty. Its nose is expressive, spellbinding and profound. Strawberries, fresh forest and humid soil. I immediately knew I was tasting one of the greatest Burgundy I ever had. The palate was perfectly balanced, suave and velvety. You just wanted more. After a few years of aging, this wine is already showing its potential. I’m still salivating thinking about it.

Sweet and pure aromatics of red fruits, earth and a little espresso. Good flesh and detail in the mouth with a lovely lacy texture ad fine mineral finish. The best wine of this bracket by some way.

Has all the super ripe, red and dark fruits associated with the vintage but they come off a touch more elegantly with a gorgeous perfume. The wine in the mouth is just above mid weight but delivers pure and pristine fruit flavours with a hint of earth and sap. Exquisite balance and certainly enjoyable now due to the harmony of all components.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 4/1/2016-4/2/2016 (Tru Restaurant - Chicago IL): Very similar to the Jadot 2002 CSJ we opened late yesterday. Ripe black fruit with meaty notes and Boeuf Bourgignon spice throughout. A little more spice vs the Jadot, while slightly less concentration and animale.
