green, peppercorn, all whole cluster, a little lean, but resolved structure. This bottle needed to stand up for several days to let the sediment rest. Overall nice and probably not too expensive on release. A good argument for aging despite a weak vintage. Or maybe a good argument for buying better vintages.

Green peppercorns are the immediate impression on the nose with earth, clay, crushed rock and spice following this. It's a bit sharp and acidic on the palate with slight front of mouth talc textured tannins and peppery spice. Doesn't carry very long. Last bottle I've got. I rather enjoyed its austerity. Hmm.

I really like this wine and could sip on it all night - a great accompaniment to dinner. Nose was dominated by ashtray mixed with dark fruits. The palate had a crisp acidic spine with a pleasing dark fruit ascending toward the finish. My only issue was varietal character - at times I felt like I was drinking a good Sonoma Pinot rather than a Northern Rhone.

From Coravin but left for about 30 minutes before consumption. Fragrant green peppercorn, biscuits, toast, slight black cherry and berry and black pepper spice. In the mouth the wine is juicy (medium plus intensity acidity), green and black peppercorns, slight black cherry and berry that is a little tart and slightly astringent. The tannins are negligible. I do like this.

Perfumed green peppercorns over a slight meaty, leathery note and sour black fruit and green leaf hints. I do love the aroma of this wine - based on my readings this must come from that less good quality crushed granite part of St. Joseph. Still, I like it. The palate is a touch disappointing unfortunately...the fruit is a bit tart and flat and dominates proceedings, fine tannins. Ho hum.

Double decanted three hours prior. Aromas of slightly sour black over red berry fruit, green over black peppercorn, cream and spice. I also get a few less intense scents coming through with time - hints of rockiness, a weird touch of plasticine and a slightly confected/candy floss note - I think my nose is out of whack. In the mouth the wine has medium acid but quite sour red and black berry fruit which grapples on the palate with green and black peppercorn notes. There is tongue coating fine, talc like tannic grip. A little alcohol warmth, which isn't intrusive, carries on the medium plus length finish with the spicier elements. Hmm. Probably getting the intrusive sourness because this came after a Spatlese...

Perfumed, fragrant green over black peppercorn, then muted blackberry, cream and spice, touches of biscuit. In the mouth there are flavours of green peppercorn and blackberry notes, slight spice and fine talc like tannin. It's quite mouthfilling as well, with a touch of bitterness on the back palate. Quite juicy as well. The nose is very lovely - very, for me, St. Joseph. I rather like it.

Lots of black pepper on the nose. Closed to start with and opened up after an hour or so but never became great. Thin and not complicated some spice. Drank against a cheep $15 Victorian Shiraz which was the preference. 1 day later the nose had mellowed to a light pepper with a secondary fruit and spice coming through, the palate had filled out and was now a pleasant drink.

Effusive nose of plums, black pepper and spices, baking pastry, and damp earthy minerals. Lighter body, very dry red berry fruit flavors (strawberry, etc.), with musky/dusty depth. Medium plus sour acidity. Soft and pure. Grippy, bitter, charred finish. Soft, juicy fruit with lots of pepper.

Medium garnet red, clear complexion Intense nose of tobacco, peppermint, violets, wild game, and baby powder. Medium bodied, gripping tannins, with a very dry raw mouthfeel. Plus acidity balances the tannin, fruit and herb characteristics. Overall a very good easy drinking St Joseph. Solid wine, with this bottle being slightly better than the first.

Appearance: bright, clear, with medium + ruby color.
Nose: clean, pronounced intensity, youthful aromas of spices: pungent spice of black pepper, sweetspices of cloves, ginger, nutmeg; red fruit aromas of under ripe red cherry, and hints of animal aromas of meat and farmyard.
Palate is: dry, medium + acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium – body. Medium + flavor intensity with aromas of pungent spice of black pepper, sweet spices of cloves, ginger nutmeg; red fruit aromas of under ripe red cherry, and animal, meat and farmyard. Length is medium +
Wine is of very good quality: it is balanced in its tannins, acid and fruit character; the structure in harmony, it reveals complex aromas of fruit, spice and animal, and has a medium + finish. It is very typical to cooler climate areas.
It can drink now but will develop for the next 10 years.
Guess: Northern Rhone Syrah, $25.

Monthly Tasting Group EEE #005; Rhône (@ JD): Popped and poured (which was not a wise thing to do). Primary bouquet with a lot of red fruits and white pepper. On the palate a lot of spices like clove, medicine and aggressive acidity. Minerals as well. But I can imagine that decanted well before drinking the wine will be much more pleasant. Or age the wine a few more years so everything integrates and becomes milder. No score for now.

Garnet red color. Notes of menthol, spearmint, cracked white pepper, fresh herbs, raspberries and cherries. Medium to lean bodied with mid-range acidity. grippin tannins, thin finish. Overall; Good, not great. Best with food and not as a stand alone. Drink now as opposed to cellaring, as the brett will grow to engulf this wine.

Really nice St.-Joseph, with lively spicy nose and a ton of salted, smoked meat, leather, red and black fruits, the usual freshly ground black pepper. The body is a bit slight but there is no shortage of flavor, which picks up a pleasantly bitter note on the finish, and the wine is impressively fresh and light on tannins.

a hop flower, white pepper to the nose. cherry fruit on the nose has emerged. the palate shows a beautiful glassy pepper expression, but more complex than that. a multitude of flavors are looking in the mirror.

Coravin fun - around the northern hemisphere ish (My place, parramatta, sydney): From Coravin. Wonderfully perfumed green peppercorn aromas dominate slight back cherry and berry and spice. More of the same on the palate is refreshed by a lovely juicy acidity. No tannins present.
