Deep ruby, bit purplish, fairly opaque to the rim. Smells like dark black and blue fruits and graphite. Smooth, round, and supple in the mouth, with medium (+) body, acid, and finish, and flavors of dark fruits, lemon, barrel spice, and minerals. Well balanced malbec. It's fruity, but there's nice spice and acid keeping it in check. Pretty good. Haven't had too much (red wines) from Salta.

Amongst the very good Malbecs. Intense in colour with the nose accordingly. In the pallate it has beautyful tannins! Heavy yet smooth. Last very long and grows, lots of Caudalies. A really enjoyable wine. For my taste a bit too fruity, hence I rate the Zeta a bit better.

Deep inky purple with a nose of rich berries and cedar. Highly extracted with deep notes of dark berries, leather, and forest floor. A healthy level of acidity keeps the wine lively. The finish has impressive length with the dark berry doing a slow fade.

A deep inky purple color with very long legs. The nose is rich with tomato leaf, licorice, damp earth, and spicebox. The description sounds unappealing, but the bouquet is quite enticing. In the mouth, a subtle, yet healthy acidity gives the wine focus. Lush tastes of ripened blueberry and blackberry, along with a smokey edge round out the palate. The finish has impressive length fading slowly into the background. While the nose gives the wine a deep, slow, brooding feel, in the mouth it is lighter, due to the acidity, and seems to have a fruity sweetnees. The brooding feel slowly grows as the wine fades with the finish. A better than average Colome Malbec, but a step below the 2005 vintage. That's still seriously good.

Discovering Wine: The Colome Malbec Estate is a violet wine with a nose of blackberry, earth, violets and hints of Good and Plenty. Slightly tannic in the mouth, with tastes of blackberries and ripe fig. The finish has some heat with blackberry and licorice, and eventually oak.

Malbecs ($20 to $40) (Dan's): This is a wine I see in the store a lot and never think of buying. I guess the label doesn't appeal to me. A good thing about drinking blind as I very much enjoyed it and it was the groups #2. Inky purple in color. The nose is dusty with some tobacco notes and black raspberries. On the palate, this has a sweet black raspberry note. Medium bodied. Its more of a fun wine than serious, but it also has some depth and something going on. Very nice showing.

This was really good. Just popped and poured. The color was dark and inky and this was full of fruit. You could taste what well done Malbec can and should be. The price point is right on Q with this wine as well. Buy it and enjoy it. Our first bottle of wine as a married couple.

PnVnD let air for 1.5hrs. Huge dusty blackberry aroma as it was decantedcarried through to when it was poured into the glass and then there was some raspberry sage and smoke. Medium plus with plush milk chocolate tannins. Big burst of blackberry plum raspberry herbs smoked meat and cranberry. Refreshing acidity keeps it balanced and a nice smoky note persists on the finish. Delicious.

Big, bold and refined. Dark inky purple and an intense nose of blackberry, plum, mineral, white pepper. The wine is med-full bodied with a good tannic structure. Upon the first drink, my thought was "Tannat" and lo and behold the wine has 8% Tannat, in addition to small quantities of CS, PV and Syrah. This is a prime example of old-vine high-altitude Malbec.

Very nice nose with berries. Powerful wine but very smooth to the palate. We had this with skirt steak and it went well together. We opened it alongside with a 1999 Far Niente cab and both had surprisingly similar palates, in spite of the fact that this is a 92% Malbec and the Far Niente was 9 years older. I think this is a very good value for its price point.

According to the winemaker--Colomé Estate is a Malbec based blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat. Malbec excels in the warm, dry climate of Argentina, producing exceptional wines with dark, spicy aromas and succulent texture. The wine is deep magenta with a purple hue. This wine is sophisticated on the nose with violets, black fruits, clove, and black pepper followed by flavors of elderberries, nutmeg and cassis. It is a full bodied and rich wine with thick, mouth coating texture. Subtle French oak and toast flavors are well balanced providing vanilla and toasted bread flavors. The wine is long, rich, fat and round on the finish. It pairs well with steak, cassoulet, duck, venison and other hearty fare. Keep in mind though, this wine is pretty already at its peak, so don't let this one sit too long. Drink through 2011.

This was really good, but a touch simple overall in comparison to the Vina Mayor Ribera we had alongside (I feel some of the characteristics of Malbec are very much aligned with Tempranillo) that was so much more interesting, granted significant more bottle age, etc. the key issue for me is that some Malbecs are starting to take on the 'negative' 1 dimensional aspects that have come to haunt the Aussie Shiraz market, very tasty nonetheless - This was black, full bodied with a nose of plum, blackfruit, leather and creamy vanilla, fruit forward, huge, intense, sweet, smooth on the palate with very good length (90 Points).

This highly-recommended Salta malbec retains attractive varietal characteristics despite some blending that smooths malbec's typical ragged edges without obliterating them. It was a huge hit at my dinner party. Also noted on 10/24/2010. If straight malbec is too tart or spicy for you but you like the varietal notes, this lightly blended wine may be an excellent alternative.

This is seriously good value. For 15€ (in Sweden) this wine beats many in the higher class. Decanted 1h prior to drinking. Had it with entrecote which felt (and tasted) like a given combo. Lovely dark fruit combined with earth and spices. The structure is all there and it is an absolut pleasure to drink. Would recommend decanting at least an hour or celler it 1-2 years more...however i think it could last to 2018. Again, excellent value, impressive.

It would have been more subtle to have hit me in the face with a Blueberry Pie. Huge nose of sweet blueberry, spicebox and powdered Cardamom. Mouthfeel is full, lively with delicious mid-palate fruit. Ripping acidity on the finish speak to the altitude and daily temperature fluctuations. I'm not a fan of Hess Collection in Cailfornia, but they have invested wisely in Argentina. Easily the best Malbec I have ever had. At $24, I will stock up and return again vintage after vintage.

Tasted initially immediately after opening at 63 degrees. Opaque purple. Nose of earth and ripe fruit. Blackberry and dark chocolate flavors. Good acidity. A bit of bitterness in a mildly tannic finish. Very good but lacks a little of the lushness and balance of the 2007. Opened up and mellowed after an hour of exposure. May improve with some time in bottle.

Assorted Malbecs from Here and There (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Again, this is virtually opaque. Incredible dark raspberry syrup flavors. This has about a hundred times more fruit than anything else in the series. Some wood evident. Tangy fruit but this still falls short of having enough structure to balance the gobs of (over)concentrated fruit. This sticks out like a sore thumb. Hard to believe it is crafted from the same varietal. I do not care for this style at all.
