Popped and poured. Some browning in the color. There are some savory, aged notes along with some menthol and cherry fruit. For my tastes, a nice balance of fruit and structure. This bottle was very good, and Ann and I both enjoyed it. A fair amount of sediment in the bottle.

Final bottle. After a full day of running around to son's basketball tourneys, popped this enjoy with some carryout brick oven pizzas. Still has some nice cherry notes, both sweet and sour, interestingly enough, but things are less balanced than my previous bottle as the alcohol has crept forward a bit. Just seems to have started it's decline a bit quicker than I thought it would. This was perfectly enjoyable (as was the pizza) ... but if I had another one left, I think I'd drink up.

This is still tasting very nice, and still quite youthful. I get a ton of sweet cherry on the nose. The palate is a mix of cherry (both sweet and sour), dusty tannins, and herbs. Still lots of acidity. Plenty of life ahead.

Yeasty, mature wood. Notable tannins, bordering on tight. Rather modest acidity with aromatic dried fruits, balsamic notes, showing fully mature. Quintessential Italian wine, super dry, the kind of bottle to open with dinner, not a wine tasting.

Medium weight, well balanced, pure fruit and delicious at this stage. The wine improved significantly from the extra 3 years in the cellar compared to the last bottle I drank in 2018. Patience paid off. Drank with friend who shared a 2005 Beaucastel CDP, both were great but this was was superior in structure and taste.

Aerated to decanter 90 minutes. Showing a bit of age on the rim, still clear and bright, otherwise. Medium-bodied, classic build, mouthfeel, aromas, etc., with a subtle elegance that makes this a welcome surprise as far as mid-week wines go. To may taste, this is firmly in its preferred window; should hold for several more years, no problem. recommended
Classic Sangiovese cherry and raspberry with notes of leather, earth, and savory herbs, with moderate tannins and strong acidity on the medium to long finish. This seems to be somewhere in the middle of its drinking window, and it may improve for a few more years. This was a very good value at a little over $50.

Decanted three hours before tasting. Deep purple starting to brown. Plummy, piney nose, funk took some time to blow off. Elemental black fruit sweetness jumps a little inelegantly to the oak structure underneath, but it's delicious all the same. Drink now.

The immediate nose was muted, more tuscan dust than cherry, palate was a bit of bright herb and rough tannin, bit short, glad I opened it well before dinner, but years too early?
Two hours in the decanter and the scent of this wine caught my nose as I passed the dinner table. Oh yum, smelled of leather, stewed cherry, faint mint and sage.
Much improved with dinner, grilled sausage, mushroom and onions, broiled broccoli and molten polenta. Wow, bingo.
Palate is now yielding balanced sour red fruits and a delicious herbaceous note that was like adding fresh garden seasoning to dinner (in February). Whiff of dried tomato, acid, quite smooth tannins and a long finish.
This wine in this condition has plenty of life left. Happy to find more. Been enjoying Rosso di Montalcino's lately, but this Brunello certainly elevates itself.

Light to medium bodied. Brick red colour. Quite a complex wine with cherries, prunes and tobacco. Dusty, drying tannins. The acidity is quite bright still so has some time yet, though I am not sure it will get much better. Probably another 3 to 5 years. Overall very enjoyable, though even after a decant it took a while to open up in the glass.

The wine that most improved when retasted over a week after a tasting of Brunellos from 1989 through 2007, judged by the large amount left in the bottle after the tasting and how good it was later when retasted side by side with the same wines. The color is just dark ruby with some brick at the edge. The fruit has a streak of sour cherry that progressively rounded when kept a week longer. The high acidity and drying tannin gave the wine a 1 and 2 punch of austerity, but at the end kept the wine bright, refreshing, juicy, and enjoyable, despite not being as deep and rich as the top wines.

Fantastic. Really enjoyed this one tonight. Transparent garnet with light bricking. Aromas of cherry and dark fruit, fresh tilled soil, eucalyptus, tobacco, subtle florals, and a meaty, iron note. Lighter side of medium body, medium+ acid and finish, and flavors of tart red fruit, naturally cherry led, orange and lemon peel, and iodine. Not a powerhouse BdM, but there's an understated power here (helped by the somewhat explosive burst of acid and fruit on the finish) that's quite appealing to me (and the mrs.). Excellent showing tonight. I'm really kinda bummed I only got one of these.
Almost 1.5 years since my last bottle, and boy, is this good right now. Lovely, textbook Brunello with vibrant, juicy red and dark fruits, spice and earthy notes. Great texture here, with the tannins getting all crumbly and integrating nicely with the wealth of fruit on the palate. In a very good spot currently. Delicious. Amali with Sylvia.
Popped and poured late in the night so this bottle didn't see much air. Initially very funky on the nose. That quickly blew off but the the nose remained very earthy. Tart, dark fruits on the palate, with soily overtones. The wine is very lean and traditional in style. High acid. More of a food wine than a quaffer. There is about a third of a bottle left to try at lunch today, so I'll add to this note if much changes. I have one remaining bottle that I'll sit on for a while. Better on day two. Still showing some earthy, coffee notes, black fruits and better balance as there seems to be more fruit. Hints of tobacco and mint as well. Needs some air to show its best.

A classy Brunello with a soft woodland frame and a flowery appeal. A blackberry finish with ultrafine lingering tannins. I expect the fruit to peak out more over the next couple of years.

Ripe fruit, quite full, but within a fragile (falling apart really) framework. Some volatility. Distracting alcohol burn on the finish. Did not improve with breathing.
Not corked. Perhaps badly stored? Bought retail.
Sealed with cork. 13.5% ABV (seems higher).
Drink now.

Largely unchanged from two years ago. The aromas show red cherry, red raspberry, dried leaves and a hint of earth. The palate features red cherry but that is backed by leather, potpourri, earth and cedar. Medium+ acidity and drying medium tannins. Overall a nice wine, my only (somewhat odd) complaint is that the wine concentrates on the front & center of the tongue - I can barely feel/taste it on the back/sides of my tongue or anywhere else in my mouth; most wines fill everything. Drink now-2020.

Delightful cherry and raspberry on the nose along with tobacco and strong floral notes. Extremely dry with bitter cherry transitioning quickly to a touch of cocoa and then a long finish of brown sugar and leather. Decanted 30 min, no significant change over 2 hrs.

One year since my last bottle. This continues to please. Nice Sangio, rugged, some herbal and leather notes, black fruit with touches of brown leather, good balance, nice underlying acidity, still plenty youthful and will hold for many years. Very traditional. No degradation overnight. At Fairway Cafe with Greg, Josh and Bob.

Good showing, seems to have relaxed a bit since my first bottle in January 2012, in that the texture seems a touch more worn, yet this still delivers really solid fruit (dark plum and dark and red cherries, with orange zest notes) and quite juicy acidity. At one point, after about 2-3 hours of air, the fruit and acidity were just pulsing and vibrant. I don't think this is in the same league as the '99 and '01 Pertimali, as this '05 seems more up-front and offers less density, but it is a very solid Sangio. Not compelled enough to add more to the cellar, though.

Popped and slow ox'd for 1.5 hours. Dark crimson color. Really rustic nose with bloody meat, dark plums, savory herbs and some cigar box. Similar flavors on the palate with black cherry, cedar and more smoked meat flavors. Juicy mouthfeel with a dry finish. Medium+ acid and tannins. Very nice bdm that delivers varietal and regional typicity. Good QPR at the sale price paid.

Rustic aromas of red fruit and dried leaves. Similar on the palate- red cherries, leather, earth, dried leaves. Complex but lacks depth if that makes sense. Medium acid/tannins. Plenty tasty, drinking well now but will last several more years.

A tasty middleweight which is proportioned quite nicely. While at first it appears somewhat Pinot like in texture, it does hide a nice structure which really flashes out with air. While it will get better, not a crime to open one today.

Ready to drink now. Has brown-red color. Decanted for an hour. Nose of red berries, dried leaves, and a hint of oak. The complexity reveals itself on the palate with layers of dried cherries, prunes, some basil and oak. Soft but structured tannins and a very enjoyable lengthy finish.

This didn't live up to my lofty expectations. Decanted this for several hours. Seemed under ripe to me. The nose wasn't revealing much at all. Dusty astringent tannins really locked it down. It didn't have that great nose that I love in Brunellos. Not sure if this wine is in a phase or had an off bottle. Reading the scores I was quite frankly expecting to be blown away.

Decanted for one hour and consumed over three hours. Beautiful Brunello colour. Aromas of black licorice, rose pedals, and sour cherries. These aromas opened up even more throughout the 3hr. Red fruit on the palate. Good balance of acidity and tannins. Very dry tannins! Needs food for this big wine. Enjoyable.

I know this is an off-vintage because the magazines all said so, but you probably wouldn't be able to figure it out just from tasting this. It's quite intense with an almost blood-like concentration but with juicy treble notes as well. The fruit complexion is red, red, red, red, red. At first the primary fruit smooths out the tannin but it starts to show more muscle with air.

Brunello color, Brunello nose, Brunello palate. Dark cherry, black licorice, underbrush. Delicious, if not terribly complex. There's a fair amount of tannin here, but don't hesitate to drink now, I don't know that it ever gets "better".. Nice Brunello.

Opens with several hours of air. Quite bloody and irony, lots of dust atop surprisingly deep and rich red fruit and baked earth notes. A lot more concentration, youth and complexity here than some other notes suggest, at least to my tastes. Perhaps not at the level of the 01 or 04, but still a very, very good wine and an absolute knockout given the pricing it had. Perhaps 3-5 years should see this in a great place.

Orange hue and a bit of dominant raisiny flavor suggests a quicker maturing wine or poor storage. Underneath, the tannins are still firm and the wine does hint at complexity after some decanting. Still, the raisiny, stewed plums notes are too overpowering. Hard to suggest this wine over a number of lesser known but more enjoyable '06 wines.

Brunello: Plum, cooked cherries, cocoa, fresh marijuana. Tons of fruit held together by a fresh green streak. Concentrated and structured palate with nice acidity, resin, and incense. Maybe not the most classic Brunello but very fun to drink.

Vinturi into decanter for an hour. Just what I wanted out of a $30 Brunello. Classic Tuscan aromas of leather and earth mixed with sweet berry and licorice. Medium bodied on the palate with nice dark cherry, berry and tobacco. Not as structured as I was expecting - soft tannins and med. acid with a little bitter smokiness on the finish.

Tasty and expressive for a Brunello No offensive tannins, easy to drink. Fruit comes through on the nose and palatte, which proves that Sangiovese can produce tasty drinkable wine, although people still waste their lives drinking cheap chianti. That said, this is still thin and certainly not a "big" wine, but quite pleasant. Still I would shy away from spending $30-40 on this, when I could be drinking a beautiful Cabernet.

Decanted for around 30 minutes. Blood red color with great clarity. Classic tuscan aromas of game, leather, savory herbs, cherries and some earthy funk that eventually blew off. I really enjoyed this wine and it is a great value for the money. Glad I have a few more in the cellar.

Nice Brunello. Primary, showing plum and dark cherry fruit, soft tannins, full bodied. Not much to say here; it's young and gives a basic, though enjoyable, experience. Some Sangio-type herbs on the palate and it seems true to Brunello and not spoofed. No degradation overnight, becomes more focused and more impressive, a touch of Sangio leather now on the palate and the tannin is more apparent. Quite the dilemma whether to buy more of this for its low price relative to other vintages, but ultimately I'm not smitten enough to do so. I'm not sure whether this '05 is on par with, e.g., the '99 Pertimali. Then again, it's so young now, maybe its structure is hidden and its charms will surface with time.

Considering the reviews this was a huge disappointment. Decanted half the bottle for a couple hours and put the rest in a 350mm bottle in the fridge for the next day. Not much of anything - bouquet, fruit, mouth feel are all nonexistent. Next day tried the rest of the bottle and it wasn't any better. Didn't even finish it. From Wine library and $30/bottle. It wasn't corked, just more like a $9 bottle of Sangiovese. I have 2 more bottles. Maybe they got the labels mixed up?

Opened and poured a glass, tight, dry and earthy on tongue. Had huge nose, dark fruits like cherries, black raspberry and currants. Let sit for about an hour and it started to open up. Put away for night and open up today and let sit for about 2 hours. Brunello magic today! Big big fruit on nose and tongue. Still had a touch of dryness and earthness, but very silky with long finish. Just delicious!
