  • Is this finally entering a gentle downslope? Maybe - or just maybe it feels like that after drinking an 09 that still has so much life in it. Either way - this was good, autumnal, tannins receding some dark fruits under there, this is just a lovely, well balanced drop.

  • 100% Malbec, de-stemmed, 40 days of maceration, malolactic fermentation is done in oak barrels, aged 24 months in new (80%) and once used barrels, bottled without fining or filtering, 13.5% vol.

Decanted 3 hours before dinner and still improved a lot in the glass. Complex nose with dark berries, underwood and a suggestion of liquorice, on the palate dense, elegant and very precise with a long finish, grand class.

Superb Cahors, just entering its drinking window and has a decade or two ahead, 93+.

  • Opened and double decanted. On the nose - forest floor, hint of spice. On the palate - lovely - gentle red fruits with some tannic bite behind them - some spice (from the oak I think) but fully integrated. There's acidity to balance the richness - this is bold but one could drink half a bottle without getting tired, as I discovered in a little over an hour. Reminded me of one of the Ridge zins I had a couple of weeks ago.

Lovely stuff - on my last few bottles now, shall miss it when it's gone.

  • Gloomy February Weekend in London; 2/19/2022-2/20/2022: Touch of forest floor on the nose. Really starting to open up now. Complex, deep and savoury - went very well with home made burgers and doctor who. Mrs M really likes this wine - makes me think I should explore Cahors, and indeed Malbec in general - more.

  • This went down a treat with our roast beef for Sunday lunch. Opened an hour before lunch and left to breathe. Lots of fruit on both nose and palate along with a touch of graphite and leather. Still quite fresh but well into its drinking window, although still lots of time ahead of it too. Definitely one of those wines you wish you had more of.

  • Friday night wines 17 September 2021 (The leafy West London suburbs): Complex and deep - the kind of wine you'd drink in a castle on a cold and windy autumn evening. The tannins are by now very well integrated (and very little sediment in the bottle). Interestingly - friends and family I've served it to have also raved about this wine, so one for the civilians too. Wish I had more.

  • A very complex and excellent wine. Huge depth of flavors, very dark with black berry flavors, dark chocolate and strong but elegant oak flavors - tobacco, cigar box, smoked meat, and the smell of a recent forest clearcut. The tannins are still present but they are extremely silky. Finish is very long. Clearly a modern and rather masculin winemaking style, but extremely well-made. This wine is approachable now but still seems young and a bit oaky for me (though I believe it will integrate better with time). It will age well for at least another 10 years. I like it better than the equally good 2010 as it has more elegance and fruit and is less tannic and less closed than the 2010. A great wine from Cahors and excellent value at en primeur price. - 92 points

  • Valentines Weekend Wines: The more I think about it, the more I like this wine. Still a brooding dark colour, and on the nose like walking through the woods on a frosty morning - dark fruits and forest floor - but you have to sniff deep to get anything. On the palate - somewhat austere, well put together, the fruit is still there but is restrained by the forceful tannins. I found this much more enjoyable than I'm making it sound. Used to drink a lot of Cahors back in the day - and this is why. Grown up wine for grown up people.

  • Decanted 30 minutes before drinking, very dark red, complex aroma, still quite closed initially but opened up after further time in decanter, plummy fruit and good length. Not sure that it was worth the 30 Euros it cost. It was good with roast beef, though.

  • At opening very primary with black currant, on the palate tight, austere and slightly drying finish, 5 hours decant helped a lot.
Very dense and focussed, on the nose black berries and tobacco, intense, on the palate good acidity, concentrated, the oak is very good integrated, medium to long finish. Very young but already approachable with a long decant, made for a very, very long life, just superb, 94+, a must for this price.

  • Nothing to add to my note from 2016. Really good and still quite young. One of the beste french Malbecs in this price range.

  • Poor. No fruit, no nothing. Still got half a case - might need to go in the ragu.

  • Bit disappointed with this. Bland. Hard to say if will improve or better of drinking it up.

  • Weekly tasting group #203; Cahors and a few pirates from Argentina (@ SB): Tasting the wine blind, so what to think? Very weird bouquet; hazelnuts and walnuts, no fruits. Same on the palate, some cardboard, but not corked. There was some acidity and tannin. This must be a faulty bottle. And after revealing the wine we were certain about that. And even more certain after we tasted 3 older vintages just after this one. What a pity, because 2009 was a beautiful vintage; also in Cahors.

  • Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
    Drunk over three days.
Deep, almost inky purple. Intense, youthful nose with lots of black fruits, some oak, smoke, barn.
Dry, very fruity and juicy, medium+ silky tannin, full bodied, high alc., concentrated but not fat. Rather cool. Still very young, but it makes fun to drink. Would be interesting to see what happens with 5-10 more years, when the fruit is gone. Will it improve with ongoing maturity? I don’t know. If you like a complex, fruit driven Malbec then drink it now.

  • Darkest red, black core, dark blue shimmer --- Nose shy, some elegant wood notes, some pralines, bitter chocolate, earthiness, some paper --- Palate shy and elegant, watery, cherries, lots of cherries, some herbal notes, nice wood notes in the background, a little spicy --- Finishes medium long on fading fruit and light tartness. Overall an elegant wine, truly balanced, driven by red fruit, nice spiciness and elegant wood notes. A shy, guarded, cool beauty.
