A bit darker and not quite as fresh as the last bottle of this a year ago. Bit more cork seepage. Quite lush with good flavors, classic deep peach apricot honey and touch of green herbs, nice mineral saline notes. Good acidity underneath kept it lively. Long finish. The prime bottles of this are singing these days...

Deep golden with only a slight hint of an amber hue. The first minutes in the glass is a bit of a deja vue, with a total muted nose, but this wine of Huet still shows much better than some bottles of the 90 or 1997 Le Mont. It developes an unbelievable nose with different citrus notes, pears, yellow fruits, honey, blossoms and spices. On the palate with grippy tannins in the finish and the sweetness is of course at this age shed to some extent and it is not sweet enough to go with a dessert, maybe if the dessert is only a bit sweet, but it is best as the dessert or on its own as an apéritif. Long finish. 96 points from the WA in 2015 and this bottle is even better. 5/14/18/10. The cork was soaked almost to 100%. Stored under textbook conditions since release. The wine is holding through for a decade or more, if the cork holds thtough. -2032+

Surprisingly light color here: light gold rather than the amber tint I might have expected. Nose shows honey, baked pear, and almond paste. The palate has a pillowy texture but medium to light weight, with only moderate sweetness remaining. There's a gripping stony tang that appears on the back palate and finish to liven this up. All in all, this was nice but not especially complex and probably not worth the 34 years of cellar time to get to this point.

Oops. Cork just broke and was in a bad shape. The initial nose is quite offputting, 'mushroomy'. Can a sticky be corked? Goes to pine resin now. This is not overly sweet and there is good tension. Quite simple in terms of complexity. To be updated

Going strong. Loads of crystalized ginger and honey, dried pineapple, chamomile, dried apricot herbal-mineral-funky finish on the nose. Pronounced put of the glass, full in the mouth, + acid, and a finish that just goes and goes. Not an everyday wine, but a lot of fun to drink.

Very fresh for such an old wine. I had tasted it around its launch on the market and remember I was not so impressed and said to myself that I would drink the other bottle I had in many, many years given the pedigree and vintage. The time has come and while I’m impressed by its longevity, I find the wine having not very complex flavors. It’s quite interesting to taste but I guess it’s not my style.

Mildly stinky on opening - not so much 'wet wool' as 'old sheep'. That dissipated relatively quickly, leaving a wine with toffee apple notes on both nose and palate, pineapple, burnt orange (like an Old Fashioned) and quite a rich, sticky finish. Even drunk fridge-cold, I found this a little too sweet, and wonder if it would have been better to wait 5-10 years. Would have been a nice match with a cheese plate.

Chenin is so distinctive. This one had honeyed notes, and solid acidity to offset the sweetness. This worked well as a lighter styled dessert wine. I liked it.
medium sweetness meets refreshing acidity in this 1989, at its prime, don't think that it will "improve" any further, 6 bottles left, I intend to consume them the next few years

We drank two bottles from the same ex-domaine case (2017 release). Both bottles were consistent. Quite a deep golden colour. Good acid-sugar balance. Overall a touch sweeter than I have come to expect from the moelleux cuvées...closer to the première-trie in style (perhaps a testament to the ripeness of the vintage). Good interplay of tropical and orchard fruits, with pineapple, orange peel, bruised apple, quince and pear skin. Also some bubblegum, and perhaps a little shoe polish/solvent on the back end. Some notes of stewed/oxidative fruit too. The pith and bitterness I look for in sweet Vouvray is there, but it lacks the magic of the best Huets I’ve previously enjoyed. Will obviously keep for a long time, but I don’t see much in the way of upside in the medium term. 91-92

Relaxed Wine evening with great Pizza (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald 1er Trie filling. Decanted for about 2-3h. Finally a good bottle. Clear, medium amber color. Nose with some earty, waxy notes and fine spices, mellow apple. On the palate beautiful balance of acidity and sweetness. Brown sugar, ripe, sweet fruit, honey, mixed with some mineral notes and spices. Very long and complex. 92-93

Golden colour. Aromas of honey, orange peel and wet wool. When tasted initially there was lemon, honey and little else. After an hour of air and the wine having warned to from cellar temperature it expanded considerably with herbal notes and candied peel. Sweetness is balanced by considerable acidity. Thanks to the acidity the wine has a freshness to it despite now being 30 years old.

Pausing for the Cause (S.K.Y. Restaurant - Chicago IL): Candied orange peel with some bitter pith and dried apricot. Sweetness and acidity in good combination. Age has this coming across more demi-sec than Moelleux. Very musty start that some thought corked (I wondered as well) but this cleaned up nicely with air, in fact got richer and weightier.

Lite honung, lite lite bittermandel.

Appearance: Bright and clear, medium gold in color, with watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of green fruit of ripe apple, pear and quince, citrus fruit of bitter orange, stone fruit of peach, tropical fruit of pineapple, mineral notes of stony and kerosene, maturity notes of honey and wet wool, kernel notes of almonds. The wine is developing. Palate: Sweet with high acidity, the wine has medium (-) alcohol, and medium (+) intensity flavors of green fruit of apple, quince and pear, stone fruit of peach, kernel notes of almond, maturity notes of honey and wet cool. The wine has a medium (+) finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Vouvray with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, the wine is really at the pinnacle with the harmony of every elements, with good intensity on the nose showing good complexity on the varietal, while on the palate it is vibrant and lively despite its age, with good concentration and length on the finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 7-10 years.

Greatly enjoyed this with the kids on Christmas Day, especially since it was Miranda's B-Day wine drunk four days before her 28th. This was quite excellent, really in its sweet spot, with honeyed but not cloying sweet fruit. Glad I read some CT reviews before trying, they were right: more of an aperitif than a dessert wine. Craig especially seemed to be blown away by his first taste of Vouvray. I was also impressed, as I had never tasted one of this age. No hurry to drink this beauty, it is lithe and elegant, but rich and powerful as well, as the fruit packs quite a punch. This wine grew on all of us the longer we lingered over it. And the color was magical: burnished golden yellow that looked rich and regal and unctuous. 94/100.

Drinking marvelously, with beautiful aromas of pears, peach cobbler, and a touch of wet wool. Gorgeous palate, with more honey-drizzled peaches on entry, and a cool mineral and black tea finish. Maybe a shade less intensity than the 1er Trie rendition, but this is just beautiful now.

Golden colour. A bit less developed than the last bottle from october 2016. But similar notes. Very complex and elegant. It needs some time from the open bottle to develope power and vigor, but I wouldn't recommend decantation. To make it clear: This is not a classic dessert wine, because it is not sweet enough for most desserts. It works well on its own or as an aperitif. The cork from this bottle was soaked to 80%. The wine is immortal.
Decanted 1 hour. Excellent wine, so elegant and lightweight and yet so pure and complete. Nuts, honey , apples on the nose, Evolves beautifully with some air. Not sweet but rather demi-sec in the mouth. Has a long future ahead.

golden to orange colour, nose of quince, honey, orange, pear, peach and spices. On the palate the sugar is integrated and this wine shows great poise and harmony with intensity. This bottle was stored in a winefridge since release in the early nineties at 11°C. The cork was still okay but soaked. If anyone wants to store this wine for many more years bottles should be recorked. Bottles that are for sale now were recorked at the winery in 2012. 96 points even from Stephan Reinhardt at TWA. Bottles that were not recorked should be drunk up if you don't want to take a risk. Recorked bottles should age beautiful for twenty more years and longer if you let them recork again.

A shimmering, youthful light gold color hinted at the freshness to come, and the wine certainly didn't disappoint, with its silky texture and lovely acids to match the sweetness. However, it seemed a little too low key and muted in both smells and flavors, and suffered in comparison to the 1er Trie rendition of the same wine I enjoyed last month, which brimmed with richness, vibrancy, and complexity.

Deep yellow to light golden color; nose is aromatic, notable quince, apple/pear; palate is medium bodied, medium to medium-plus acidity, medium well integrated alcohol, off-dry, apple cider, honeyed, slight botrytis?, fades a tad through the midpalate; finish is medium length. A very nice wine drinking well now, but it wasn't as much of a standout as I hoped it was going to be given its age and price, and I'm not sure that the slight sweetness added any complexity compared to aged sec Huet that I've tried. Drink now or over the next 2 decades. 91

Golden pear, honey, apple cider, with hints of bitter orange. Tangy acidity but overall almost too straightforward for me. Based upon much older vintages of this wine, this will get better with time and develop additional nuance. Would advise against drinking now and instead bet on continued evolution. 89+

Brass coloured. In the nose hard to grasp, a bit bitchy. Slightly soapy. Quince bread. On the palate, wonderful though. Like an English five'o'clock tea with scones, whipped cream and Earl Grey Tea. Decent sweetness, nice acidity, very bright.

Huet fete part III: Schildknecht comes to town. (Dougherty's.): It goes without saying that this is the most youthful wine of the night, but this showing is a further indication that many of the '89's from Huet are finally out of their temperamental stage, though are still quite young to be sure. It's by far the sweetest wine of the night and full of boisterous quince, apricot, pineapple and bergamot notes to go along with the omnipresent mineral character, all of which is supported by a sizable backbone. Though I've never had their '89 sec, from demi-sec up through Pinguet's special cuvees, the estate simply made a spectacular array of wines in '89, though there is the caveat that a bunch of '89's seem to have cork issues. Terrific wine. Low A.

Very interesting. Forward nose of waxy yellow plum, quince and lemon. Light palate but intense in flavour. Long balanced finish.

Sadly, this was really badly corked... the inside of the cork also had a green mold-like stain which I've never seen before...

Not sure I understand the tasting notes below. I've had 3 bottles of this in the last 12 months and all would beat most Sauternes. Nice sweetness/acidity balance. Long. Not too heavy.

A very malty note dominated early, which unfolded to show apples, some Earl Grey tea, clove, and the usual citrus peel. This is amazingly young.

Low A.

This is the best dessert wine I ever had, ever. Ever. Not cloying and thick like I find most to be. Nice honey tones on this.

Domaine Huet tasting (Bentley Hotel, London): Fresh, apples and almonds, classic and balanced (and much nicer than the equivalent 1er trie)

Bastille Day @ My Apt (San Francisco): Bad bottle? A bit flat and flavorless, with not much sweetness.
