Very reticent nose at first pull but opens up with lemon curd, pineapple. Very mild clean lemon flavors on the palate with clean finish. Needs 3-5 yrs.

Having tasted this at the domaine in September (note below), it was interesting to get another try of this, this time without any hurry. It must be noted that I'm generally not a fan of the 2009 vintage and have found little good in the wines so far. Louis Michel's wines are made in steel and they are usually quite pure and tight when young and this wasn't an exception. Initially the citrusy flower aromatics were present again and it was pleasantly balanced on the palate (unlike most '09s). However, the big surprise came after forgetting this into the glass for an hour or so. When I came back to this wine it had reached a warm cellar temperature (16 Celcius) and breathed a lot. Even though we had already decanted this for about two hours I was amazed by the change in glass. It had turned into a VERY expressive blossoming field of flowers and fruits, just full of summer. Hence, I suggest serious decanting and avoiding drinking this too cold.

Beautiful aromatics, minerals, flowers, citrus and stone fruits. Balanced, elegant and delicate on the palate as well. Quite well constructed considering the vintage, which I'm not a fan of.

Low nose at first; not terribly expressive, entry is slightly flabby; nuance of hay, lemon and crunchy minerals; dense body for chablis, minerality comes out further after a few minutes along with a pure lemony note; medium plus finish. this is pretty four square, good Chablis. Well made, classic Chablis but lacks zip and doesn't particularly excite me though. 89-90

Smaking hos Domaine Louis Michel: Mineralsk nese med en lett sødme. Bløt inngang og åpen frukt. Konsentrert, fet og med flott syre. Lang, mineralsk avslutning med smørtoner. 91-92

Open about an hour. Put a slight chill on it, too. Some sea air and fresh cut green apple on the aromatic but it's not all that potent, more subtle. Texture is pretty round and there seems to be more ripeness here than in the 2008. I seem to find a presence of pineapple and orange blossom and an absence of the apple and lemon, as well as what seems like a much lighter expression of acidity. Finishes with some slate but also that same ripe edge of what is like a peachy-pineapple. This seems more forward and less complex than the 2008. I like it but the crisper flavors, the cut is not here for me and won't buy this again. I'm curious to see what the rest of the Michel 09s taste like, as I hope they're more defined than this.

Tank sample just bottled so may still be in a state of shock. Pale green-gold with a complex, expressive nose. Medium weight, rather feminine and a bit one-dimensional. Was expecting more. Very good, but nothing special. Estimated maturity: 2015+

La Paulée de San Francisco 2012 (San Francisco, CA): The prettiest nose of all the Michel Chablis tasted today. Again: palate was a bit too gentle for my tastes.

Some Notes from the 2012 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Westin St. Francis, San Francisco): Subtle, floral. Not too ripe. Excellent salinity. Delicate, as Vaudesir often is. Really good for the year. Very pure and unadorned.
