Dan's Birthday (Keens Steakhouse): Sweet lime/green apple fruit, round and juicy, gulpable but not particularly interesting. This is sweeter than I would prefer, especially for a kabinett. Not bad, but there's so much excellent inexpensive Riesling out there that this is a bit disappointing for its level.

Sunday lunch with Turmeric, Piry Piry Chicken. As to be expected, the wine is early adolescence. Perhaps in a flat period: earlier bottles had more delightful spritz and bite character.

Ernst Loosen ( Dr. Loosen) in Wine Route Tel Aviv: Light straw color. On the nose you first get minerals with some hints of fruit (mostly citrus) on the background. Half dry, middle bodied. Enjoyable.

Tasting with Ernie Loosen (The Wine Exchange, Orange, CA): Screw cap. Minerals on the nose. Quite reserved for an '09 and not showing the ripeness I've seen in other wines. This might have come at the cost of fruit concentration as the power is lacking in this in comparison to the '10. There is a nice note of minerals that makes this worthy though for an earlier drinker and the fruit is expressive even if it is a bit weaker. Very nice.

After tasting the spritz on the 2006 Beerenauslese, I decided to go ahead and dump this into a decanter for a couple of hours. The screwcap and the youth played into this decision as well. After a sip upon opening, this was a good decision. Pale straw. Nose and palate told the same story, citrus and plenty of it. Quite pure and the wine showed plenty of bright and refreshing acidity. Good length as well.
I'll revisit my other Loosen bottles down the road a bit. Pleasant, but I expect a bit more complexity from svd's from a good producer and this was a tad one dimensional. I think there is potential here based on the acidic structure and the finish, but solidly on 88 for now.

Oktoberfest: 2009 Germans (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Very attractive with bright aromas of citrus, flowers, and crushed stones. The palate has superb density with complex flavors of pear, apple, and stones. I love the persistence and complete package this wine offers. In the past I haven't been that impressed with the Loosen offerings but this wine is excellent.

Pale green. Fresh, ozone laden nose with ripe pear and melon. On the palate it is round, fleshy and full bodied with a youthful spritz revealing sweet, concentrated green apple and white stone fruit, well balanced by the bright zippy acidity. Youthful, but still very enjoyable.

Aroma of tropical fruit, mainly green apple, apricot and mango. Palate has nice balance of sweetness, green leaf and acidity.
