In a gorgeous place, but definitely at peak if not just starting to gradually pass the crest. Honeyed pink apples, jasmine, with hints of ripe pineapple in mango. Firmly in balance between sweetness and acidity, with a long lemon finish showing flashes of tea. This is very much a light pudding wine you could serve with not too sweet fruit based desserts. If that's not your thing, foie gras would certainly work.

It’s been ages since I’ve had an Auslese. Sweet with good acidity to give it lift. Pineapple, baked apple with a creamy texture. While it’s a wine with charm, I look for to a return to my dry Riesling.

Aromas of apricot/pineapple though also a nutty note, given its somewhat dark color I think this is a bit oxidized. Still finished the bottle and would probably rate it 89-90 with decent acidity, but will withhold a formal score due to likely mild oxidation.

AP 2 576 163 46 05. 7.5 percent abv. $40 retail discounted further at Gerardi's Little Store; imported by Loosen Bros., Portland, Oregon. Cork-finished, somewhat light in color, plenty of fine tartrate crystals, very refractive; viscous, a wall-wetter.
Pine, with lemon curd and walnut-cream pudding, and verbena, and hints of strawberries. Intensely sweet and sour, with bitter lime peel twists l and flecks of peach and mango, very exhuberant and forward. Lovely clean finish with pine needle forest floor, 60 plus seconds. Hints of botrytis/umam accompanied by cedar oii. Great power almost overwhelms the focus, but ten years in bottle certainly helps this dessert wine come together.
This cooler vintage was perhaps almost ideal for the Prälat, whose rectangular-parabolic surface and closeness to the water surface mirroring heat can be too much of a good thing in some years. Also shows why the seasoning in the slate soil is as important as the substrate itself, in this case flne rhyolite materia from the Vulcaneifel plateau rich in iron.

Really lovely shimming pale gold - looks like a Californian Chardonnay! N: M+ intensity with nice stone fruit, nectarine and peach scents. P: Plump, viscous and slightly oily attack with a really lovely balance of sweet mirabelle jam flavours combined with some touches of apricot and subtle cinnamon. With air this gave way to notes of old Chenin blanc such as hay and quince. There's a richness here which is making this eminently drinkable right now. Much discussion was had about potential for development, I believe it will continue to be interesting for some time though it will never be a luscious, overtly sweet auslese

So much more open and expressive than the Donnhoff Auslese I was drinking just night. But that was from 2006 and this is 2004. Much enjoyment here, very young, served with Ancho spiced sweet potatoes and sauted spinach. Perfect.

This has a gorgeous nose, delicate citrus fruits, some minerality and honey. A veritable feast of luscious fruit hits your mouth, oranges and peaches predominate, this wine is sweeter than medium, a wonderful beautifully balanced mouthful, quite long.

A bit waxy and funky right off the cork pull. Ernie suggested that you need to drink it in 4 or wait 10 more. So I would be drinking it at the wrong time.

Wine 7 of Dr. Loosen Tasting with Ernst Loosen: A quieter nose. A bit of petrol, or Firne. Woodsy, autumn leaves. Herbal notes. A tiny bit of apple. Medium to full body. Richly smooth, but very light on its feet. Great acidity that will carry this a long time. Subtle clover honey flavor. An extremely long finish of apricot nectar and orange/spice tea. Ernie thinks this is currently in a "dumb phase" and that it won't fully come together until 2014 or so. I can see what he's saying, but it's still damn fine now.

Drank over x-mas as I wanted low alcohol. Probably a little early but still a pleasure to drink. I actually paired it with roasted pork loin stuffed with apples and prunes and the sweetness of the wine was complementary to the food. Very pure. Will wait some years on the next two bottles.

Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting - Workshop #2: Ernst Loosen (Sydney, Australia): From a red slate based site that is only 4 acres in size (1 acre of which is owned by Loosen). A complex nose bursting with aromas of peach, pineapple, guava, spice, flint and floral notes. The palate is rich, ripe and concentrated, but still pulls off excellent balance and shows all around class. The best depth of flavour and length of the wines in this flight.

Great wine. Honeyed apricot, peach, melon even. Some nuttyness and then the acidity takes over and carries this wine whilst cleansing the palatte.
Not cloying at all and the low alcohol supports the balance of fruit, body and sweetness.

Seems a bit in an odd phase. Not quite primary anymore, wanting to be more secondary but not yet there either. Needing time.
