RSV/Richebourg dinner - a contrary to the '14 Hudelot RSV, this was ready for business! Violets, spice & tea dominated the bouquet. More tea on the palate. Nice finish!

Slow ox 4 hours (cork, fill level in pristine condition) Color : bright ruby garnet. Nose : Potpourri of florals, rose petal, peony, red berries, darker fruits, amazingly lifted & complex. On the palate: elegant, velvety texture with purity. Forest, earth, red fruits, abundant rose petals, violet, with touch of vanilla pods & lots of sweet spices. Very classy. In drinking window but still life ahead.

Unfortunately this bottle had some oxidisation effects, judging by the colour and initial taste. However after a few minutes, you could still feel the depth of the fruit come through.
Quite a spicy palate with a soft lovely black tea like finish. Acidity felt a bit subdued but just right when the fruits started coming. Lovely rose water threaded through. Tannins are still present and feel very fine, with a long elegant finish even through the sweet mildly oxidised fruit. I think if this bottle was in form it would have been such a stunner wine, but an amazing experience nonetheless.

Excellent bottle, lots of red and purple berries on the nose, mineral, spices, and modest creaminess, silky structure with good layers, modest earthiness and forest floor on the palate and nice gentle yet firm acidity and still vibrant fruits.

During a tasting/Paulée dinner, so only brief impressions. Hudelot’s RSV shoots the lights out again. Beautiful nose of musk, red fruit, vanilla. Sophistcated and elegant palate. Very grand, WOTN contender.

Bt breathed an hour, high tone nose of red and blue fruits in a garnet hue, almost pungent spices too. Ample balance of sweetness and fruit acid on palate, good level of extracts but tannin is slightly bitter luckily not enuf to disturb a very fine RSV. Long finish with hawthorn and tea leaves, despite its color, more cellaring is perhaps needed.

Quite nice, but a bit brooding and angular relative to the 2000, 2002, 2005, and 2007 served alongside. I generally feel this property is producing even tastier wines in more recent vintages.

Vosne-Romanee Grand Crus for Michael and Peter's Birthdays 2015 (Gattopardo Restaurant, Tras Street, Singapore): I was very taken by this wine when I first had it some one-and-a-half-years ago. It did not show quite as well this time round (perhaps because it was slightly overshadowed by a great Richebourg from the same vintage on its flight), but this was still a smashing bottle of wine. One whiff and I just knew we were in RSV territory here - it had that floaty, seductive, perfumy bouquet that only RSV from amongst the Vosne Grand Crus can deliver, with ripe red cherries and orange peel aromas, smoked bacon and sweet floral accents, all flushed with wafts of fragrant wood spice. Beautiful. The palate was a perfect echo of the nose, with a touch of that savoury smoked bacon drifting through delicious flavours of sweet red cherries and perfumy flowers that had a wonderfully transparent clarity to them. On the midpalate, the fruit was met by a warm embrace of high-toned spice and little drifts of smokiness, all draped around soft, silky tannins and wonderfully integrated acidity - this is a wine that is just starting to resolve completely, and boy it was delicious to drink. Great finish too, with a nice, warm spiciness and more of those seductive floral accents gliding away in a wonderfully elegant, silky mouthful. A lovely wine in every way, there is no reason to wait on these any longer.

1998 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Cheng Hu Tien, Keong Saik Road, Singapore): Gorgeous. This was one of my very favourite wines on the night. It was everything you would want in an RSV – floral seductiveness, fragrant Vosne spice, Grand Cru weight, all tied together with great elegance. It had a glorious nose, just wafting out of the glass in waves of sweet spice and dried flowers, blackberries and black cherries, a backdrop of savoury meat and earth. Wow. This was sensual and seductive – a nose that really drew you in. Beautiful on the palate too. Soft and silky, it showed beautifully detailed flavours of dark cherries and blackberries seasoned with spice and brambly herbs and dried flowers. Lovely, sensual and complex, yet subtle wine, gentle, almost understated for all its fullness in the mouth. It had depth without weight, length without effort, gliding into graceful finish, full of fragrant spice and sweet, seductive dark fruit and florals. An absolutely gorgeous wine, drinking beautifully on the night.

A ridiculous Burgundy evening at Cory's. Drank over 3 hours. Similar to my last bottle. Iron, red fruit, earth, great Leroy like texture and brightness. Long finish.

Dark garnet. Heady and rich, full and dense, this surprised me in its promise as I found the expected lush and ripe feel with dry-extract and texture yet it still retains balance and intrigue; there is enough acidity. Dark cherry pit, warm sarsaparilla, aromatic spice, iron and mocha. I imagine another 10+ years will only improve the showing as the oak could integrate and the fruit is still primary.

Drank over 3 hours. Another excellent bottle, but not as expressive as the last couple. Nose took about 30min to get going, but was full of red and black fruit, spice, iron and coffee. The palate was wonderfully integrated, great balance and full in the mouth. Not as much red fruit as prior bottles, this was more leather, iron and spice. Long, integrated finish.

Medium to dark red in color, nose with slight coffee beans, red fruit, spices. Medium plus in palate with good balance and good length. Certainly no slouch but next to the big boys, Leroy and Cathiard. Slightly lacking in the nose department.

2012 - Gary's wine bash! (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Alcohol :: 14% Opened for 3hrs. It is unusual that we serve both Richebourg last but the sequence was correct. Both Richebourg offering massive power and not at all ready for business. Medium ruby, bright. The bouquet offering alluring soft spices, autumn leaves, perfume floral with raspberry and dark cherry fruits. It also has a fair hint of matches note at the background, which suggests reduction and may need longer aeration. Full bodied, this is definitely a Richebourg in term of power and scale. Super rich and concentrate, massive level of fine tannin along the dry extract numb the mouth and palate immediately. It has huge depth but will need at least another 10yrs in the bottle to develop better nuances. Super long, intense, grippy finish. 93-94+

Granato luminoso e limpido, unghia aranciata.

I have had this wine three times over the past 2 years. It is beautiful. A silky clean sweet palate with a spicey, minerally and red fruit driven nose. Without question the best 98 burg I have had and one of the best burgs period. If you see it buy it. But know you'll be bidding against me!

The nose has a small dose of brett and the cork showed minor signs of leakage. My bet is that the brett was hiding some of the lovely aromatic notes I so covet in RSV. The palate takes it’s time to fill out and upon the second glass which was chilled due to the bottle being @ room, it comes on like I freight train catching its stride. Bright red fruit with fine tannins & generous complexity. The balance from start to finish is nearly perfect and had me shaking my head how everything from the fruit profile to the tannin, acid, alcohol, toast, extract and concentration were so perfectly aligned. This is drinking beautifully and while it won’t hurt to wait, no one will be sorry tearing a capsule & pulling up a cork. The little lady asked how many more we had… I can’t wait to try the 98 Richebourg next.

Romanee St.-Vivant Dinner (Sepia - Chicago IL): This wine was just as floral, spicy and sexy as the 1998 Leroy but somehow in different ways. It was definitely a big fruit wine and very showy with wonderful mouth feel and texture. Tasted blind, I would have guessed it was definitely younger than a ’98. Also had incredible length. Hudelot-Noellat 1998 RSV was certainly WOTF and a “Top 3” contender for WOTN.
