2007 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo

The nose on this is initially surprisingly fresh. A nice herbal quality. With time the overwhelming alcohol dominance of this wine reasserts itself.
Fresh acidity on the palate but again the fruit is masked by alcohol. There is lovely pure fruit in there and nice fine tannins but the alcohol just mutes everything.

2007 Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe

Classic Barolo nose in a ripe register: rose pastilles and herbs, deep dark ripe fruit. The roses are the strongest note.
Rich ripe on the palate, very dense slightly cooked character but fresh acidity keeps it on the right side of overripe and balanced. Nice fresh acidity and lots of fine tannin on the finish.
Not sure where this is going: it’s a bit disjointed at the moment but very balanced. Good for a decade or so at least.

Lovely pure strawberry compote fruit, subtle herbs. Beautifully fragrant.
Fresh and elegant on the palate. Very refined. Perfect balance.
This is a gentle wine. No fireworks but very harmonious.
